Leaflet 10 - Nudity and the Police - New Zealand

Continuing in our leaflet series, this video leaflet tackles the topic of what happens when you are naked and get approached by police.
Police get complaints from members of the public and, as such, they are obligated to investigate a complaint if there is a risk to the public or criminal offending is taking place.
In our experience, when chatting to people - whether it is on a forest track or on the beach or any other place - it is clear that although being naked may not be their cup of tea, some appear to be acting as a 'protector of others' and that they themselves are not necessarily offended. Rather, complainants say they are acting for the protection of others, particularly families with children, in a sort of self imposed, but misguided, moral guardian position.
However, more often than not there is a "live and let live" approach from people that just laugh it off and say "i wish I had the guts to do that!"
This video is based on a document that Hauraki Naturally sent to, and was approved by, the Police Commissioner's Office, with the intention of establishing a mutually agreeable and consistent approach to dealing with complaints of nakedness by the public.
