00:06 The Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro, 66-year-old Jose Cabantan, lines up to greet the Pope on October 11,

00:13 when the Pope suddenly reached out for and inspected Cabantan's pectoral cross.

00:18 In a message to Rappler, Cabantan says,

00:21 "He just appreciated it and remarked, 'This is very good.'"

00:24 The cross stood out for the beaded and indigenous design of its lace,

00:28 which is different from the plain metallic laces used by other bishops.

00:32 He told the Pope he got the cross when he was the Bishop of Malaybalay, Bukidnon,

00:36 in southern Philippines from 2010 to 2020.

00:39 Cabantan is a known defender of indigenous people and their rights.
