Hezbollah destroyed the tenth Merkava tank, accurately hitting a combat vehicle with a Kornet ATGM.
In the last episode of the conflict in the Middle East, the crew of the Kornet ATGM of Hezbollah units successfully hit one of the heavy Israeli Merkava Mk.4 tanks. The situation was particularly tense as the driver of the Israeli vehicle was directing the tank directly into the ATGM range. The current tank was the 10th in the confrontation with Israel, while some of the tanks were also destroyed by Hamas forces in the first three days of the confrontation.
The incident highlights potential problems with the Trophy Active Protection System, which was designed to provide additional protection for the Merkava MBT against threats such as ATGMs. The Trophy system is designed to detect and destroy ammunition that threatens the tank, but it appears that there were problems with the hardware and software in this episode, which gave Hezbollah the opportunity to hit the target.
