00:00 It was somehow, it came into the resolution in a very brief form.
00:03 It is by no means a sort of comprehensive view of the issue.
00:07 Democratic party, people express their views very frankly and freely.
00:11 There is no question of feeling intimidated by the presence of the leadership.
00:14 People speak.
00:15 The siege of Gaza now with the cutting off of food, fuel, water is really an inhumane
00:21 act.
00:22 I'm not suggesting there was anything humane about what Hamas did.
00:25 They were completely inhuman, brutal, evil.
00:28 And at the same time what the Israelis are doing in revenge is hurting ordinary innocent
00:34 women and children who have nothing to do with Hamas.
00:37 Congress MP Shashi Tharoor clarified his statement on Hamas as it created a row on social media
00:41 projecting an impression that Tharoor was shying away from calling Hamas a terrorist
00:46 group.
00:47 Tharoor's clarification came after former Israeli diplomat to India, Daniel Karman,
00:52 slammed the statement and questioned Tharoor.
00:55 On the Hamas attack on Israel, Shashi Tharoor said, "Hamas attack on Israel should be
00:59 condemned but the larger issue at stake should not be missed either."
01:03 Tharoor said the PM's statement expressing solidarity with Israel was incomplete as there
01:08 was no mention of the reason behind all of this.
01:10 "While we understood the Prime Minister's standing up for Israel and showing solidarity
01:14 at this time of great grief and this horror, at the same time we felt that his statement
01:19 was incomplete," Tharoor had said.
01:22 Responding to Tharoor's statement, former Israeli envoy to India, Daniel Karman, wrote
01:26 on X sharing a clip of Tharoor's interview with a television channel.
01:29 Seriously, Shashi Tharoor, can you not?
01:32 After decades of terror against my people, challenging the very Palestinian Authority,
01:37 especially after this week's savage slaughter of over a thousand peaceful human beings,
01:41 can you not label Hamas as terrorists?
01:44 Frankly, I am shocked.
01:46 The terrorist organization label is one to be very careful not to follow other countries'
01:50 leads in this matter.
01:52 The US considers Hamas a terrorist organization, so does Israel.
01:56 India has not made any such classification and I am going to stick to the Indian position,"
02:01 Tharoor said in the television interview.
02:03 As his clip went viral and drew sharp response from Israel's former ambassador to India,
02:08 Tharoor clarified and wrote, "Don't be misled by crude headlines seeking to distort
02:13 my words.
02:14 Daniel O'Carmen, I feel for you and other friends in Israel at this difficult time and
02:19 hope and pray for your continued safety."
02:21 Shashi Tharoor condemned Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu's firm hand against Palestinians
02:25 and said that his government made no compromise towards the Palestinians.
02:29 Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday condemned the brutal attacks on the people of Israel
02:33 and said that the party always believed that the legitimate aspirations of the people of
02:37 Palestine must be fulfilled through dialogues.
02:40 A day after, the Congress, in a statement, called for an immediate ceasefire and said
02:44 it always supported the rights of the Palestinian people to land self-government and to live
02:49 with dignity and respect.
