00:00 Ever found someone occupying a seat you purchased?
00:05 Like in a cinema or on an airplane?
00:08 Annoying isn't it?
00:10 Now imagine how it must feel for women who enter a ladies-only coach only to see men.
00:15 It goes beyond being annoying.
00:18 The women-only coach was introduced last month in response to the increased harassment women
00:22 were facing on trains.
00:24 But despite the authorities making it abundantly clear that the women-only coach is only for
00:29 men, some men are not getting with the program.
00:32 Photos and videos of either stubborn or mischievous men straying into women-only coaches have
00:37 gone viral on social media.
00:39 That's actually disturbing.
00:42 Because like, couldn't they understand or respect some needs of safety for women?
00:49 Yeah, they can just stare at you and you feel uncomfortable.
00:53 And imagine if you have like 5 more, 20 more stops, I don't know.
00:57 So that's really, really uncomfortable.
01:01 Does the problem boil down to attitudes or ignorance?
01:07 So a guy went into the women's coach.
01:10 I think he did it unknowingly.
01:11 Like he was just told to not be in the women's coach.
01:15 But I saw one yesterday and one last week.
01:19 I'm not sure if it's that they didn't hear the announcement or they didn't see the sticker.
01:26 Whether intentional or otherwise, men straying into the women-only coaches is still a problem
01:32 that needs fixing.
01:34 This is something Rail Operator Rapid Rail is working on.
01:38 Publicity via mass and social media, awareness campaigns, public announcement at stations,
01:44 on board trains and additional notices will be enhanced and surveillance by the auxiliary
01:48 police also be improved to provide more comfortable, convenience and much safer journey to all
01:54 passengers.
01:55 We always accept suggestions for improvement measures.
01:59 Now it is important to keep in mind that the women-only coach on the Kajang MRT line is,
02:04 at this point in time, still a pilot project.
02:08 Transport Minister Lok Siew Fook has said that if the pilot project goes well, it will
02:12 be expanded to other rail lines.
02:14 So how do commuters think the initiative can be better?
02:18 More women are taking public transport.
02:21 Maybe they can increase one more coach extra.
02:23 Sometimes the women coach is not enough for us, so they have to go to the other coaches
02:29 as well.
02:30 But it's not just down to the authorities.
02:33 Everyone has to do their part.
02:34 There needs to be some sort of control when there are some men inside the women's coach.
02:41 And we do, as general people, we do need to be more vigilant about that.
02:46 So if you see something, say something.
