00:00 Well, Alden Richards and Julia Montes, ready to break our hearts in the newest romance drama flick,
00:05 5 Breakups and a Romance. Now, it follows the story of a middle-aged couple, Lance and Justine,
00:10 who struggle with the complexities of today's relationships. The much-awaited film is helmed
00:16 by none other than the heartbreaker herself, Irene William Moore, of course, the woman behind
00:22 blockbuster Hooghut Films, like Sid and Aya, you know, not a love story in Camp Saween.
00:28 Good morning to you. Good morning. Thank you. Why are you breaking my heart, Direk?
00:33 This early? This early in the day? I mean, I could already tell, you know, just by the title alone.
00:40 Bakit nga ba, Direk? Sa title, 5 Breakups and a Romance. Bakit mas marami yung breakups kasa romance?
00:48 It's really a concept that I got from an essay na basa ko about different kinds of breakups,
00:56 and then it started with the challenge of yun nga, how many ways to break a heart? Parang,
01:01 I've done love stories, so what's gonna be new about this story? So, it's pushing myself na
01:08 paano wakapa magkakwento? So, how about puro break up?
01:13 At least may romance ulit. There's still hope. There's still hope. But it must be tough for you
01:21 because, you know, all of your films that you've done in the past, I mean, have been amazing. I
01:26 mean, you have had terrific team-ups with your previous movies. Now, with this one, how did you
01:33 find Alden and Julia? I know Alden was your main, okay? You had him already in mind, but you said
01:41 that this was an unconventional tandem. Yes. Why? Because hindi pa ako humahawak ng love team.
01:50 Yeah, before, so parang it's Ding Dong and Anne, or Carlo and Bella. So, naka-established na sila?
01:57 No, parang ano sila, yung chemistry is, I rely on the reading and also, I believe in the script,
02:07 parang mag-degive to, they will connect somehow, even if, yeah, it seems na Alden and Julia,
02:13 parang, "Hm, saan galing yung basi?" But they did well sa script reading pa lang, so I was like,
02:19 "Yes, may chance." How did you pick Julia for this? Because she's also part of Cornerstone,
02:24 so when they said, "Who do you want to work with in Cornerstone?" Of course, Julia, because,
02:30 ayan, and then also, alam kong matagal siyang, hindi pa naglagan nitong genre. Yes, I mean,
02:36 well, Alden also hasn't been making movies, you know, for some time, but of course, you've worked
02:42 with Alden, you know, in the past, so what was it like working with both of them? They seem to have
02:48 fallen in love with you. They seem to have found themselves for some, I don't know what you do,
02:54 I think I'm gonna apply and be part of your movie next time, but, you know, what is it? What was it
03:00 like working with both of them and, you know, on set? It was really, ano, parang collaborative
03:06 effort, and then we started with script readings and a workshop, and then it's really the friendship,
03:13 also talking about personal things, so, para paano mo maa-apply dito sa performance,
03:18 paano mo, I mean, it's really, also the trust that they gave, and the trust na binigay ko sa
03:23 kanila. I don't know what you did, but, you know, Alden was saying that their first scene was the
03:29 fight scene. Wala man lang welo, wala man lang imas-imas. Let's go and do that. How were you
03:36 able to motivate them already and find, you know, where, the peak, diba, where they needed to be?
03:42 We did a script reading one time nga lang, and then the workshop nga, they bonded, and then I
03:48 kind of asked questions. I believe in pre-work kasi, so, parang dun ko lahat, ano, okay, this
03:53 scene, how we're gonna approach it, days before. So, even if wala pa sila on set, nare-ready na siya,
04:00 and then finding the whole day, scheduling the whole day for just that scene, and prepping.
04:06 Direk Irene, I think you need to write a book. You know, how to make this, how to make this all work.
04:11 Okay, but, but tell me about the story, okay, where we're getting way ahead of ourselves behind
04:16 the scenes, but what is the story about? How does this work? It's, it's Justine and Lance falling in
04:22 love na whirlwind romance kasi nagsimula. Singapore. Singapore, and then where does that love take them?
04:29 Kasi it spans an eight-year relationship, so, parang hanggang saan sila magpafight for their love,
04:36 because it happens, I mean, a lot of things happen in a love, in a couple, diba, parang, it's a lot of
04:42 factors, not just the love itself. So, there's the complications of friends, the, of course, the
04:49 status, class status, and then parents, and even what's happening with the world, nakaka-apekto yun
04:55 sa relationship. So, how many boxes of Kleenex must I bring? I mean, what, what can our viewers expect,
05:02 you know, from watching this film? Five boxes. One for each. But I hope hindi naman puro tears.
05:12 Okay, tears of joy. What did you want us to learn with this, in terms of the breakup and the romance
05:18 and in the movie itself? Well, siguro yung, about love. Tapos may Ben and Ben ka pa. Oh, may Ben and Ben ka pa.
05:25 It's an original from Ben and Ben, and then Kenji did the cover. So, it's, it's about
05:33 struggling for that person. I mean, choosing to love this person every time. It's so, so,
05:42 the learning siguro is how long. How long? When, when do you, when do you have to let go, or when,
05:50 oh my gosh, okay. You, you have done, as I said, you know, a lot of films about romance. It seems to be
05:56 your comfort zone. You seem to enjoy doing it so much. If ever there would be another movie
06:01 that you would like to do, and you know, cast that you would like to have, what would that be?
06:06 Siguro yun, sabi ko, I'd like to do action. Action, kung kaya. And then, mayroon akong isa pang dream movie na may gusto akong gawin.
06:16 Secret pa? Secret pa? Still a dream? Still a dream, still a dream, but yeah, I want to do something with,
06:23 ano, Judy Ann and Claudine, ganyan, sana sila. Oh my gosh, Direk, you, you seem to be pushing your
06:31 boundaries, you know, your, your box gets bigger and bigger, but we do appreciate you. We, we
06:37 thoroughly love the movies that you've put out there, and the lessons learned. So, thank you so
06:42 much. We look forward to October 18. Yes, October 18, cinemas nationwide, five breakups and a romance.
06:47 Thank you so much, Direk. Wonderful meeting you. Thank you for joining us this morning.
