Turning saltwater into drinking water: A low carbon tech solution to the global water crisis?

Global demand for drinkable water is on the rise. This Norwegian company is responding by desalinating the sea into clean, drinkable water.

00:20 is just increasing, increasing dramatically.

00:27 What does WaterEyes do?

00:36 Well, we are combining two worlds of technology,

00:41 existing technologies into a new

00:46 and we think a more clever way of doing RO desalination.

00:51 Because we go subsea

00:53 and we utilize the hydrostatic pressure,

00:55 the weight of the water above your head,

00:57 we're able to save energy.

00:59 And we save somewhere between 30 and 40%.

01:01 It depends a little bit on kind of salinity, temperature,

01:05 those kinds of things,

01:06 but give and take 30 to 40% energy reduction.
