00:00 Boradar, Boradar.
00:05 It's the best I can do, I'm afraid.
00:07 Should have listened more intently
00:08 to my fabulous colleague, Yolo Williams,
00:11 when it came to pronunciation, shouldn't I?
00:13 I will try harder.
00:14 Anyway, let me wish you an early,
00:17 very happy World Animal Day.
00:19 Today's a day for celebration.
00:21 Yes, enormous numbers of people who work so hard
00:25 in the animal welfare sector are coming together
00:27 with you in the Senedd to celebrate their successes.
00:31 And there have been quite a few in recent times.
00:33 Let's look at what's been happening in Wales.
00:36 Firstly, fantastic, a ban on snares.
00:40 These antiquated and cruel devices have been chucked
00:44 in the bin for the rest of history.
00:47 Thank you very much indeed.
00:48 Glue traps too, those cause immeasurable suffering.
00:51 They're gone.
00:52 And it's gotta be fair to say,
00:53 Wales has been taking a lead on these sorts of things
00:55 for some time.
00:56 I remember back in 2010, first country,
01:00 Comrie banning shot collars for dogs.
01:03 Still haven't done that in England,
01:06 which is a bit of a shameful indictment, isn't it really?
01:08 But we're working on it.
01:09 Rest assured we're working on it.
01:11 And of course, we're very excited
01:12 about the potential forthcoming ban
01:14 on greyhound racing in Wales.
01:17 Wouldn't that be something as well?
01:18 I don't need to outline the catalogue of ills
01:21 which are associated with that industry.
01:23 So if that were to happen, it would be great.
01:25 We at Wild Justice gave the Welsh government
01:27 a little nudge a couple of years ago
01:28 to improve the general licences and it happened.
01:32 So now some species of birds are better protected in Wales
01:36 than they are in the rest of the UK.
01:37 Top work once again, and thank you very much indeed.
01:41 So do have a fantastic day celebrating the successes
01:45 that you've made and all of those people
01:47 who've contributed too.
01:48 I hope it goes really, really well.
01:51 And please, across the board, politicians,
01:53 all of those volunteers, all of those people
01:55 who get up and work so hard to make the world
01:58 a better place for animals and wildlife.
02:01 Top work and thank you very much.
