00:00 The death toll at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Nandat district has gone up
00:05 to 31 after the death of seven more patients.
00:08 The patients who died at the hospital include 15 children and 16 adults.
00:13 In a social media post, the Nandat district information office said that the facts related
00:17 to the death of patients at Dr. Shankar Rao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital
00:22 is as follows.
00:23 24 deaths between September 30 and October 1, 7 deaths between October 1 and 2.
00:30 The hospital asked the public to not panic.
00:32 The update on the death toll was also shared by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok
00:36 Chavan.
00:37 On Monday, the authorities at Shankar Rao Chavan Government Hospital said that the deaths
00:41 occurred due to a shortage of medicines.
00:43 However, the hospital's dean said that the 12 children who died included six girls and
00:47 six boys and the 12 adults who died were due to various ailments including snake bites.
00:52 He explained that the hospital is only a tertiary level care centre but patients come from different
00:57 areas because it is the only health care centre in a 70-80 km radius.
01:02 He added that the number of patients admitted to the hospital sometimes exceeds the institute's
01:07 budget and that is why there was a shortage of medicines.
01:10 However, the hospital released a statement on Tuesday saying that there was no medicine
01:14 shortage and the patients were in their last stage.
01:17 "The Shankar Rao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital is a tertiary level care
01:25 centre.
01:26 The patients come from nearby districts like Hingoli, Parbhani, Pusat, Umarkhed, Nirmal
01:33 Bhainsa, Ahmedpur, Latur, from all these places.
01:37 The patients are referred to the outside practitioners or our peripheral hospital.
01:48 The 24-hour deaths from 30th September to 1st October, 24 hours of 24 deaths, 12 of which
01:58 were of children.
01:59 But in this also, the age of the children was of 2 days, 2 days, 3 days, such children
02:06 were there and their weight was very less when they were born, so in such premature babies,
02:13 naturally their breathing, lungs, etc. do not develop completely.
02:17 So, such babies are also going to die and one woman had an operation, a hernia operation,
02:24 a diaphragmatic hernia, they came to us from outside.
02:29 So, from this, Parbhani, etc., from all places, these children who came here, 12 have gone.
02:36 There was no sudden occurrence here, no such infection, so these children are going to die
02:43 from different diseases.
02:45 Later, the patients who were going to come in the adult, the rest, the children who came
02:52 out, so from that, 8 patients were of the age of 70 to 80 years and 4 of them had a heart
02:59 attack, someone had a problem with diabetes, kidney, someone had a problem with liver failure,
03:06 someone had an infection in the brain, such patients are going to die.
03:11 And one, Ajay, a 19-year-old boy, he expired due to gas gangrene in a road traffic accident.
03:18 An 80-year-old lady came, she also had septicemia, that is, the last of the infection, it happened
03:25 like that.
03:26 So, here due to the patient coming in a very serious condition, the treatment is complete,
03:31 there is no shortage of doctors, there is no shortage of medicines, despite taking all the
03:36 care, the patient's body did not respond to the treatment, that is why they are going to
03:41 die.
03:42 No, there is no shortage of medicine for a serious patient, all the treatment and treatment
03:47 is complete.
03:48 They have a disease, such a child, a child of 0 to 3 years, 3 days, 3 days, the child,
03:54 his development is not there, no matter how much treatment is done, such patients do not
03:59 survive.
04:00 Now, if you see such an overall, we have 747 patients hospitalized in our hospital, out
04:05 of which, in the children's department, there are 142, out of which, there are 142 children
04:10 who have oxygen, some are on ventilators, in such a serious condition.
04:14 Because all the coming here, all the sudden, suppose, the private practitioners, this patient
04:19 has become serious, that he will die in taking their medicines, in fact, they send him here
04:24 out of fear.
04:25 Second, those who live in poor houses, they are not afforded so much of ICU treatment,
04:30 so 2, 2, 3, 3, 4000, 4000, they cannot spend such a per day, so they also come to us in
04:35 a serious condition.
04:36 Now, how is it that this patient had the same disease, but the treatment was not complete,
04:41 that this patient had the same disease, here, no negligence or lack of medicine, this is
04:47 not the reason for his death.
04:48 According to reports, the Maharashtra cabinet will discuss the Nandit hospital deaths in
04:52 a meeting on Tuesday.
04:53 According to a Maharashtra government official, the cabinet may decide on forming an inquiry
04:58 committee over the incident.
04:59 Ashok Chauhan should not be involved in this, he is the representative of the people there,
05:04 this hospital comes in his area, his responsibility is also taken, as the opposition, the opposition
05:10 of the government is also responsible, without bringing the politics into this, in all these
05:15 hospitals, that people come at the last moment, that is why this happens, this is what they
05:20 have to say, our doctors, we will investigate every death.
05:23 Sir, the cabinet is today, you have briefed the CMDC, you have made this issue, so from
05:29 their side, you said that, I have been told to go, I will go there, and a committee of
05:35 doctors will be formed.
05:36 I have seen this also, in Gorakhpur, there was an oxygen problem, and more than 200 children
05:43 died there, this is the condition of the whole country, but the health condition of Maharashtra
05:50 was above that, always, Maharashtra did a good job in this matter, but for the last one
05:57 and a half years, all the government hospitals of Maharashtra, the way they have been operating
06:04 in the last two years, neither the health minister is worried, nor the health department
06:11 is working, nor the government doctors are working, no one is being controlled.
06:18 If there is any neglected department in Maharashtra, then it is the health department.
06:25 Thank you.
06:28 update.
