October heatwave expected in parts of Europe after countries record hottest ever September

France, Germany and the UK all recorded their hottest ever September last month.

00:08 Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and Switzerland have recorded their warmest

00:14 In Germany and Belgium, temperatures are four degrees above the seasonal norm.

00:17 In France, that figure is 3.5 degrees above normal.

00:22 Even into the first few days of October, heat records have broken again in several regions

00:27 and that is causing concern.

00:29 "It's very worrying because it's not normal and every year it gets hotter and hotter.

00:37 And the heat, it feels like we're in August when we're actually in October."

00:49 In Cyprus, temperatures are expected to stay above 30 degrees this week.

00:56 While in some regions, Spain and Portugal, they could hit as high as 40 degrees.

01:01 And while some might be tempted to flock to the beach during this unusually warm period,

01:05 authorities in Portugal are warning against doing so in unguarded areas.

01:09 This past weekend, at least one person died and another two are missing after going swimming.
