My 300lbs Weight Loss Left Me With 20lbs Of Loose Skin | BRAND NEW ME

  • last year
HENRY Gonzales, 31, from Georgia weighed 565lbs at his heaviest and was a self confessed binge eater. However, with the help of his Mom Nelly, and best friend Roberto, Henry has lost over 300lbs! When Henry was at his heaviest, he would eat enormous portions of food throughout the day which all contributed to his weight gain and unhealthy lifestyle. Henry told Truly: "When I was that big it would be binge eating. Big meals, Big portions...my snacks would be what normal people consider a meal. It's like a guilty pleasure.... it feels good whilst you're eating it, but at the same time you know you're doing something really wrong - the bigger I got the worse it felt". Henry says that his life changed the day he got onto a plane and had to buy two plane tickets as he could not fit onto one seat. He felt so embarrassed and low at that moment he decided to change his life for good. Henry turned to his Mom Nelly and best friend Roberto for help and got to work! With lots of effort and dedication Henry has now lost over 300lbs but has been left with loose skin. Henry said: "Looking at my loose skin now makes me feel proud and glad that I started this journey when I did. This is my past and I'm trying to see what my future looks like and my future doesn't have loose skin". Henry's journey isn't over as he wants to continue his weight loss journey and eventually have his loose skin removed. He added: "I'm not scared of nothing any more, the world opened up for me completely, make the decision..start and never stop".

00:00 I weighed 565 pounds at my heaviest and now I weigh 253 pounds.
00:05 When I was that big it was just a lot of binge eating.
00:08 My snacks would just be what people would consider a meal.
00:11 I can't keep doing this.
00:13 I almost went to go do gastric bypass surgery.
00:16 Before I take this extreme measure, maybe I should try at least the other way first.
00:22 So like I can at least say I tried the gym 100 to 10 percent.
00:26 And that's when I got with a trainer.
00:30 I just put my life in his hands at that point.
00:35 I went from being scared of walking to a gym by myself
00:39 to working out with a whole group of people that I don't even know.
00:43 Now that you've lost a large amount of weight, how do you feel about your new skin you have?
00:48 So a typical day now, my breakfast would be the same.
00:53 The three eggs, a couple slices of turkey bacon.
00:55 That's about it. I keep it pretty much clean.
00:58 I've been doing that consistently.
01:00 Tell us about the large breakfast you used to have.
01:04 So breakfast would pretty much be four eggs,
01:07 scrambled with hot dog slices, rice and beans,
01:10 about four or five tortillas.
01:12 I have a whole package of sauces. That's for my family.
01:15 I'll cook the whole thing thinking I'm going to leave some for my sister,
01:18 but I'm pretty much going to eat the whole thing.
01:21 I'll just eat that after working a grave shift and then go right to sleep.
01:25 When I was that big, it was just a lot of binge eating.
01:28 It would be just big meals, big portions, no little snacks in between.
01:33 My snacks would just be what people would consider a meal.
01:36 So it was just meals on meals on meals every time.
01:39 It's almost like a guilty pleasure.
01:41 It's like it feels good while you're eating it,
01:43 but at the same time you know you're doing something really wrong.
01:46 And especially the bigger I got, the worse it felt.
01:50 I was morbidly obese and very uncomfortable.
01:53 It really hit me when I hopped on a plane for the first time
01:58 after over ten plus years.
02:02 And I had to buy two plane tickets just to go four hours away.
02:08 It was like, okay, this has got to stop.
02:12 I can't keep doing this. What I want to do isn't working for me.
02:16 What I got me doing is killing me.
02:19 So I was like, you know what, let me open my mind to other options
02:23 and maybe somebody else has the answers.
02:25 Hi, nice to see you.
02:35 When you look at these old clothes, what do you see?
02:39 I look at them and look at it as a constant reminder of how bad I let it get
02:43 and I'm glad how far I came.
02:47 And now I feel like I can do whatever now. I can do anything.
02:51 Tell us about the support by your mom, Nelly,
02:55 and the help she gave you early in your weight loss journey.
03:00 She was there a lot, just being able to finance the whole situation
03:05 because I didn't know how I was going to do it.
03:07 She didn't second guess it. She just said, "Whatever it takes, let's do it."
03:10 And yeah, I love her for it.
03:12 I want to tell him I love you so much
03:15 and I appreciate what he did.
03:19 And I'm feeling very happy to he working hard.
03:28 I almost went to go do the gastric bypass surgery.
03:34 I actually went down there to the orientation.
03:37 I'm looking around, some people actually had to get wheeled in that needed the surgery bad.
03:42 I just didn't feel right being in there.
03:45 Before I take this extreme measure, maybe I should try at least the other way first.
03:50 So I can at least say I tried the gym 110%.
03:54 And that's when I got with a trainer, Ryan down there at Authentic Fitness.
03:59 And I started working out with him.
04:02 I just put my life in his hands at that point.
04:05 And in the first six weeks, I think I lost 35 pounds
04:09 and then I lost 100 pounds in six months following the program,
04:13 sticking to the meal plan and just not making any excuse for myself.
04:17 The first two years was really just a lot of light weights, a lot of reps, a lot of body movement.
04:27 Just getting my body used to lifting weights.
04:30 I've been doing a lot of CrossFit this last, I started the last almost two months now,
04:34 since I've been out here.
04:36 I see my strength getting there and just more endurance is in there.
04:41 I weighed 565 pounds at my heaviest, and now I weigh 253 pounds.
04:46 I went from being scared of walking to a gym by myself
04:52 to working out with a whole group of people that I don't even know and feel comfortable.
04:56 So it's a good feeling.
04:58 But I was always making sure that my food was on point.
05:00 That's where my main focus has always been.
05:02 I could miss the gym on a Monday, but as long as I eat good,
05:06 that's going to be most important to me, is making sure I'm getting the right type of food.
05:10 I'm going to show you everything I ate, that I'm eating,
05:13 all the things I'm doing and the things I've done to lose this weight.
05:16 It's not just me, it's me and Rob. Rob done lost 100 pounds doing this.
05:20 Alright, y'all, so this is going to be a very simple recipe.
05:24 This one's going to be a teriyaki chicken bowl.
05:26 Your best friend, Roberto, has become your trainer partner.
05:30 How has he helped you?
05:32 He believed in me. He didn't judge me.
05:34 And then he decided, "I'm going to do it with you."
05:36 And we just kept going off each other, checking in with each other,
05:42 "What did you eat this week? What did you do at the gym today?"
05:45 And just keeping each other accountable and on point.
05:48 He's come a very long way, as far as from where he started at 565 to where he's at now at 253.
05:59 He's come a long way from when we used to run together, hike together, burpees,
06:03 from just being stagnant to what the mobility he has now.
06:06 I didn't want to just lose weight just to be skinny.
06:11 I wanted to actually have full function of my body and be able to pick my own body weight up
06:16 and do some things and actually see the muscles that your body can form and everything like that.
06:22 How do you feel about your body and the loose skin you have?
06:26 The vision I had in my head when I started, it didn't look like this person, this version of me with the loose skin.
06:33 So that keeps me going, motivated more just to keep going and going
06:37 until I match the vision I have of myself in my mind.
06:41 Looking at my loose skin now makes me feel proud and glad that I started this journey when I did.
06:48 And thankful that it keeps me keep going. It keeps me motivated.
06:53 I'm trying to see what my future looks like. My future doesn't have loose skin.
06:58 My goal weight that I want to see on the scale is 220.
07:04 My first short term goal just to finish off the number that I, from when I started back in the 500s,
07:10 I knew I just wanted to see that number right there.
07:13 And then next year I'm going to start the path of getting all the skin removed.
07:17 And just to finally match the vision of the person that I wanted to be in my head now,
07:23 to finally see it come full circle, the sky's the limit for me now.
07:26 It's just deciding what I want to do and then going to do it.
07:30 I'm not scared of nothing no more. The world opened up for me completely.
07:34 Make the decision. Start and never stop. Just keep going.
07:39 Even if you're not seeing the results you want to see that day or that week,
07:43 no matter how long it takes, something's going to give.
07:47 You're going to end up getting to where you want to be as long as you never quit.
07:51 Action.
07:53 Now?
07:58 Now, I give you a hug.
