Transcript
00:00 Good news for our grandparents, the Senate passed a bill that gives cash gifts to senior citizens
00:09 who are just in their 80s.
00:11 This will show the early recognition of senior citizens.
00:15 Here is Rod Lagusan's report.
00:17 Grandma Daisy and Grandma Maria are happy because they won't wait to be centenarians
00:25 to receive a cash gift from the government that is only for those who are 100 years old.
00:31 Whether it's the Senate Bill No. 2028 or the Expanding the Coverage of the Centenarians Act.
00:37 Of course, it will help our senior citizens.
00:42 I hope that at our age, we won't be able to join the government.
00:48 I hope we can join the government.
00:50 It will help us a lot because we are getting older and we need to be in the government.
00:58 I will do what I need to do.
01:02 Because senior citizens who are in their 80s can receive P10,000.
01:09 If they are in their 90s, they can receive P20,000.
01:15 And P100,000 if they are in their 100s.
01:19 According to Senator Amy Marcos, the sponsor of the bill,
01:22 the life expectancy of Filipino men is 79 years old,
01:26 while for women, it is 83 years old.
01:29 I hope that everyone will support it.
01:32 The problem is, how many of us are reaching 100 years?
01:36 For our grandparents, comorbidities, high blood pressure, diabetes, started.
01:44 That's why we want to know those who are reaching 80, 80 and 90.
01:51 Through this, the senior citizens are being given recognition.
01:56 Somehow, they will reach a little grace.
02:00 They say to us, "The grass will be cut down if the horse is dead."
02:05 But most of them are not reaching that age.
02:09 According to the bill, the Philippine Statistics Authority
02:13 together with the Department of Interioral Local Government,
02:16 Department of Information and Communications Technology,
02:18 and local government units,
02:20 created a data management system that will record the necessary information
02:24 that is included in the bill.
02:26 Rod Laguzad, for the Morning Show of the City,
02:29 Rise and Shine, Philippines.
