00:00 The executive meeting of the Shirumani Gurudwara Prabhanda Committee has expressed deep concern
00:06 over recent allegations made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada regarding the involvement
00:11 of Indian agencies in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh and a Khalistani
00:17 terrorist.
00:19 The meeting, presided over by SGBC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, resulted in the passage
00:23 of a special resolution addressing this issue.
00:27 In the resolution, it was emphasized that statements made by the Prime Minister of any
00:31 country within the Parliament should not be taken lightly, but rather considered fact-based
00:36 within the scope of the dignity of the concerned country's constitution.
00:41 The SGBC called for a sincere approach by both India and Canada to bring to light the
00:46 truth behind these allegations, stressing that allowing political motivations to suppress
00:52 this case would constitute a violation of human rights.
00:56 The SGBC also strongly condemns the alleged hate propaganda targeting Sikhs and Punjab.
01:03 The committee urged the government to take this matter seriously and take appropriate
01:07 action against those individuals and entities tarnishing the image of Sikhs.
01:14 It was clarified that the Sikh community holds respect for all religions.
01:18 However, there are individuals exploiting the current situation to sow discord amongst
01:24 the communities, a concern that the SGBC called on the Indian government to address promptly.
01:29 The committee also urged the government to take measures to restore trust within the
01:35 Sikh community.
01:36 Meanwhile, in Canada, Canadian Sikhs organized a small protest outside India's diplomatic
01:42 missions.
01:43 Reacting to Prime Minister Trudeau's recent statements, Trudeau had suggested a potential
01:47 link between New Delhi and the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijer in British Columbia.
01:52 Toronto and Vancouver saw small protests being organized.
01:57 In Ottawa, fewer than a hundred people gathered in front of the Indian High Commissioner's
02:01 office and waved flags.
02:04 Canada is home to a significant Sikh population with approximately 770,000 Sikhs residing
02:10 there, making it the largest Sikh population outside of Punjab.
02:15 In recent years, there have been several demonstrations in Canada that have raised concerns in India.
