00:00 The Prince of Wales has written about the difficulties of dealing with the sudden loss
00:03 of a loved one despite the passing of time in a new booklet designed to help grieving
00:08 families.
00:11 William, 41, whose mother Diana, Princess of Wales, died tragically in a car crash nearly
00:22 thirty years ago when he was just a teenager, penned the foreword for a moving bereavement
00:26 resource compiled by London's Air Ambulance Charity.
00:37 The heir to throne, who is patron of the organisation, said he hoped the booklet would provide some
00:42 comfort and support.
00:50 He told the bereaved who might be reading it and whose world is now very different that
00:54 his thoughts were with them.
01:02 No two experiences of bereavement are ever the same.
01:05 The sudden and often unexpected loss of a loved one can be profoundly difficult to process.
01:10 Even with the passing of time, the Prince wrote.
01:20 The free 85-page booklet features 12 heart-rending tributes to lost loved ones from their families
01:25 who recounted their experiences, and William thanked them for sharing their most precious
01:29 of memories.
01:37 Among those featured are Safi Rose Roussos, the youngest victim of the Manchester Arena
01:41 bombing.
01:49 Also featured is 17-year-old Siobhan Sammy Plummer, who was killed after being knifed
01:53 in the chest while being chased down the street in London in 2015.
02:04 William added, "Some solace can be found through the sharing of experience.
02:08 The families who have contributed to this booklet have shared the most precious of memories,
02:12 thoughts, and feelings.
02:20 I would like to thank them for opening up and allowing us into their very personal journey.
02:31 I hope that this booklet will provide some comfort and support, and that you might find
02:36 it useful."
02:37 "For those reading this who are bereaved, and whose world is now very different, my
02:47 thoughts are with you."
02:48 The charity said on its website, "We are so thankful to HRH The Prince of Wales for this
03:00 personal and insightful contribution."
03:09 William worked as a helicopter pilot with both East Anglian Air Ambulance and RAF Search
03:13 and Rescue.
03:21 The booklet will be offered free to anyone who might benefit from it, at a time that
03:25 is right for them either as an individual, a family, a friend or a professional. The charity
03:30 said, "London's Air Ambulance is the only helicopter emergency medical service caring
03:41 for the 10 million people who live, work and travel in London every day.
03:52 Founded in 1989, it has treated more than 45,000 critically injured people.
03:57 It has attended most major incidents in London including the July 7 bombings, the Grenfell
04:02 Tower fire and London Bridge terror incident.
04:12 It costs around £10 million a year to deliver the service, 96% of which comes from public
04:17 donations.
04:25 The charity also employs two dedicated patient liaison nurses to provide support to bereaved
04:30 families beyond frontline care.
04:35 Dr Anna Dhabi, lead clinician for the law, said, "This booklet allows us to extend the
04:44 care we offer these patients beyond the roadside to try and support their families who have
04:49 to navigate through the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one suddenly and unexpectedly
