00:22 In the hearing of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, the committee approved the Anti-Agrifishery Commodities and Tobacco Economic Sabotage Act of 2023.
00:34 This is the stronger version of the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act in the country.
00:38 This is one of the priority bills of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:42 And it is one of the discussed bills in the latest Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council or LEDAC Full Council Meeting in Malacanang.
00:52 Under the bill, not only smuggling but also hoarding, profiteering, and cartelizing can be considered economic sabotage.
01:00 And the punishment can reach a life sentence.
01:05 According to Agriculture Committee Chair Mark Enverga, if it is fully passed, this bill will help to control the price and supply of agricultural products in the country, such as rice.
01:19 This will prove that our government is serious in fighting against the smugglers.
01:26 The most guilty person here will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
01:31 So the penalties are a bit higher.
01:34 The Mambabatas first expressed their support for the division of confiscated smuggled rice in Zamboanga, Cebu, by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
01:44 According to House Speaker Martin Romualdez, this not only affects the administration's concern for our fellow countrymen, but also proves the government's tight campaign against smuggling.
