'New York and Paris are very similar': Woody Allen talks about making his first film in French

The American filmmaker's latest production is coming to cinemas across France from 27 September.

00:06 released this autumn. It's the story of a young woman who becomes embroiled in lies

00:13 and then adultery, and it's his first film shot entirely in French.

00:18 Although he's enamoured with the French capital, Allen travelled two hours south to the country's

00:23 home of cinema, Lyon, where his film premiered, and he suggested Paris has many parallels

00:29 with his home city.

00:31 culture, full of great music and great sights to see and great theatre and cinema. So what

00:32 you could shoot in New York, you can easily shoot in Paris and find very, very much more

01:03 Despite being in the business for decades, 87-year-old Woody Allen isn't sure he'll be retiring in the near future.

01:13 I'm tempted for it to be my final film. It's my 50th and it's a nice round number.

01:25 On the other hand, if somebody comes to me and says, "We'd like you to make a film and we'll finance it,"

01:35 then it's very hard to say no. So I don't know.

01:39 I also don't like the way the cinema has gone.

01:43 I don't like the idea of working for almost a year on a film and then it goes for two weeks in the cinema and then it's on television streaming.
