Dagdag-pondo ng PCG, tiniyak ng mga senador sa gitna ng iringan sa West PH Sea
Transcript
00:00 The Senate continued to listen to the PCG and TESDA's proposal for the next year.
00:07 This is Daniel Manalastang's report.
00:10 Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has announced that the Philippine Coast Guard will receive a raise
00:17 in the middle of the West Philippine Sea.
00:19 I think the one most active and the one who is living for us Madam Chair is no other than our Philippine Coast Guard.
00:28 That's why now is the time Admiral Abu to ask us for your wish list.
00:36 Because we have committed, all of us are united in committing our support to the Armed Forces and the Coast Guard.
00:43 Meanwhile, Senator Bato de la Rosa took the opportunity to express his disappointment
00:48 at the experience at the airport when he was asked to go home to Davao.
00:52 He said that one of the airport staff was rude to him.
00:56 He only asked the employee but it seems that he was offended.
01:00 Why? Do you have a complaint?
01:02 I don't have a complaint. I'm just asking about the process.
01:07 How are you doing with the complaints here?
01:10 There are a lot of complaints here about flights that were cancelled,
01:17 their problems in Cebu Pacific, in Pang.
01:21 You don't have a problem. What are you doing there?
01:25 The senator admitted that he was not stopped by the anger.
01:29 I was really bullied. I was just shocked.
01:32 I really wanted to kick your people but I was just defending.
01:37 I said that's how you face people who have problems here.
01:43 There are problems here. The problems are increasing.
01:46 In the budget hearing of the TESDA, the senators said that they are taking the work of TESDA graduates
01:52 who are receiving a salary that is below the minimum wage.
01:56 If this trend will continue to go on, then we are only allowing them to land jobs below minimum wage
02:06 and there's no way that we can help them actually to get out of poverty.
02:12 Why do you allow your graduates, after landing a job, to receive below minimum wage?
02:21 We have a law.
02:22 TESDA explained that it is in the mindset of the companies that are hiring college grads
02:27 and the saddening fact that second class citizens are considered as tech voc graduates.
02:32 You should not allow it. Even if a person has not studied yet,
02:37 even if he is not in grade 1, he should not receive below minimum wage because that is in our law.
02:46 Especially if he studied in TESDA, supported by our government,
02:50 our government has been budgeting for months or even years,
02:54 and he is only below minimum wage.
02:56 Heck no! You should be angry.
02:59 That's why what we are doing right now, we are working with different enterprises and industries
03:06 so that they can understand that the graduates of the tech voc are workforce ready.
03:13 Because the mindset of the Filipinos here, our enterprises,
03:18 the graduates of tech voc are not yet that accepted by them.
03:23 Daniel and Anastas for Sabayan.
03:25 (upbeat music)
