John Barclay has insisted that Jesse Kriel should have been sent off for his head-on-head contact with Jack Dempsey in Scotland's clash against South Africa.
This comes after England's Tom Curry was sent off for a similar challenge, with the flanker set to determine the duration of his suspension on Tuesday.
Speaking at half-time in the clash, Barclay revealed that he believes Kriel should have been shown red after the collision.
He told ITV: 'You're two minutes into the game and you've got an incident that's a red card. It's a red card.
'He comes from a distance. A clear line of sight and he applies force. It's head on head. It's a red card.
'The way the game is refereed now, whether you like it or not, is a red card.'
The former Scottish rugby union player continued to compare the incident to that of Curry's on Saturday, which saw the England star sent off.
'We saw a very similar incident last night that was given as a yellow and then upgraded in the bunker to a red.
'This is where the game gets messy. They look very similar. From slightly different positions but that's a red card. The fact it hasn't been seen or reviewed is inexcusable.'
However, Kriel overcame the challenge and was lucky to escape without further punishment.
Barclay demanded consistency in decisions as England's Curry was sent off for a similar incident.
Despite the red, England overcame their adversity to produce an impressive 27-10 victory, with George Ford kicking all 27 points, and next face Japan in Nice on Sunday, but will be without Curry, who will attend a disciplinary hearing in Paris on Tuesday evening.
