00:13 After attending the 1997 Ryder Cup hosted at Valderrama,
00:18 his parents took up golf.
00:19 John then followed in their footsteps,
00:21 getting lessons when he was six or seven years old
00:24 and he developed a lot of his skill
00:25 at the Centro Nacional de Golf in Madrid.
00:28 From an early age, his father pushed him to move to the United States
00:31 because he believed that's where the future of golf lay.
00:34 As a result, he eventually attended Arizona State University
00:38 where he collected 11 collegiate victories.

00:43 behind Juan Phil Mickelson who had 16 wins.
00:45 As a youngster, Rahm played a lot of sports,
00:48 many of them involving either a racket or a paddle.

00:56 He also learned kung fu as a child to defend himself

01:31 a former javelin thrower at Arizona State University.

01:36 and they welcomed their first child, Keppa, in April 2021.

01:46 for being the number one ranked male amateur in the world

01:50 Overall, he held that distinction for 60 weeks between 2015 and 2016.
