00:00 Celine Dion's sister is giving fans a rare update on her journey with stiff person syndrome.
00:06 Claudette Dion candidly spoke to Hello Canada in a new interview published on August 31st,
00:12 revealing that Celine is still battling the disease.
00:15 "She's doing everything to recover. She's a strong woman," the 74-year-old said.
00:21 Her sister went on to reflect on some of the scary symptoms, telling the outlet,
00:26 "It's an illness we know so little about. There are spasms, they're impossible to control.
00:32 You know how people often jump up in the night because of a cramp in the leg or the calf?
00:36 It's a bit like that, but in all muscles."
00:39 "There's little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain."
00:43 Her loved ones tell the publication the 55-year-old and her family are, quote,
00:47 "praying for a miracle," adding,
00:49 "We're crossing our fingers that researchers will find a remedy for this awful illness."
00:55 In December 2022, Celine revealed her rare diagnosis in a YouTube video.
01:00 "Recently, I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called
01:08 stiff person syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people.
01:16 While we're still learning about this rare condition,
01:27 we now know this is what's been causing all of the spasms that I've been having."
01:33 She looked visibly upset as she shared the news that she is battling the autoimmune and
01:38 neurological disorder that can cause rigidity and muscle spasms in the body.
01:43 "I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time,
01:49 and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges
01:55 and to talk about everything that I've been going through."
01:58 The mother of three cried as she shared how her day-to-day life has changed and got emotional
02:04 while explaining that she had to reschedule and cancel some of her 2023 shows.
02:09 "Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life,
02:20 sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use
02:27 my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to.
02:41 It hurts me to tell you today this means I won't be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February.
02:56 I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better,
03:08 and my precious children who are supporting me and giving me hope.
03:13 I'm working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day
03:23 to build back my strength and my ability to perform again.
03:33 But I have to admit it's been a struggle.
03:38 All I know is singing.
03:46 It's what I've done all my life,
03:50 and it's what I love to do the most."
03:55 "I miss you so much. I miss seeing all of you being on the stage, performing for you.
04:18 I always give 100% when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that
04:27 right now. For me to reach you again, I have no choice but to concentrate on my health at this
04:39 moment, and I have hope that I'm on the road to recovery. This is my focus, and I'm doing
04:53 everything that I can to recuperate.
05:02 I want to thank you so much for your encouraging wishes of love and support on my social media.
05:13 This means a lot to me.
05:16 Take care of yourselves. Be well. I love you guys so much.
05:30 And I really hope I can see you again real soon.
05:35 Thank you."
05:39 "Thank you."
05:41 "Thank you."
05:46 "Thank you."
