How to Use a Takayama Chasen to Prepare Japanese Tea

Ready to prepare Japanese tea with a traditional bamboo whisk? Follow along for tips on how to use a Takayama Chasen:

▪️Heat the chawan & soften the chasen bristles with hot water
▪️Dispose of the water & dry the chawan
▪️Add Hojicha Powder
▪️Pour water (max. 80°C / 175°F)
▪️Secure the chawan with one hand & hold the chasen in the other
▪️Slowly break up any clumps
▪️Whisk in a zigzag motion, while being careful not to apply downwards pressure
▪️When larger bubbles turn to an even foam, gently remove the whisk by turning it upright from the center
▪️Rinse the chasen bristles
▪️Dry the chasen naturally on a stand
