00:00 I'm the only one who gave the quote.
00:07 And in our point of view, the CEO is really different.
00:14 Well, Kapuso, we are gathered here tonight
00:24 to honor and pay our last respects to our friend and colleague Mike Henriques.
00:37 Normally, when one has already passed away,
00:44 we cannot say any bad thing about that person.
00:52 But in the case of Mike,
00:57 we really cannot say any bad thing about him.
01:03 Because I can only remember good things to say about him.
01:12 Because as Baby knows, he's really a good person.
01:18 And you can see the people who really know him,
01:22 his colleagues for so many years.
01:26 There's nothing bad to say, but it's all white.
01:29 But it's like a joke, they're making a joke.
01:33 I would rather be serious.
01:37 Because we are true servants.
01:43 Mike has been my colleague for a long time.
01:46 And not only that, during the time we were working together,
01:50 we were also friends.
01:53 And that is, I think, more than 23 years.
01:59 And you can see, not only in the testimonies of his colleagues,
02:06 but also the outpouring of sadness of his colleagues at the GMA,
02:16 and the public, those who listen to him on the radio,
02:23 and watch him on television.
02:29 And that proves how good a person he was.
02:35 Let me say, that in all the years I have known him,
02:41 I have not heard, even as a rumor,
02:47 that he did anything dishonest,
02:51 or done something that was immoral.
02:56 And maybe listen to this, sexually or otherwise.
03:04 The former president of the Philippines once called me,
03:08 to ask if Mike would agree to be part of the senatorial slate of the party.
03:19 When I called Mike to relay the offer,
03:24 Mike asked for my opinion.
03:28 And I told him that the decision was for him to make.
03:35 But I also told him that if he became a senator,
03:42 as he was likely to be,
03:48 in order for him to earn the same amount of money he was earning at that time,
03:57 he will have to steal and leave the country.
04:02 And as you know, he did not accept it.
04:08 As a colleague in GMA, I have had no problem with him.
04:16 The problems in radio I brought to his attention
04:20 were all satisfactorily solved by him.
04:27 Mike loved radio and news.
04:34 Mike, I would say, was neither a morning nor a night person.
04:44 He was at his best at any time of the day.
04:50 Although some say that he was sleeping in the studio.
04:56 He was up at the crack of dawn,
05:00 anchoring his radio program,
05:03 delivering the evening news with classic confidence in meticuatro horas.
05:12 And still at his best,
05:15 at the close of the day,
05:18 when he anchored the late night newscast, Saksic,
05:25 which ends, I think, after midnight or even beyond.
05:30 In between those times,
05:33 he led teams as Senior Vice President for Radio
05:39 over news stories and did interviews.
05:45 And most of all, he was devoted to his wife, Faith,
05:52 which I think is going to be what's a full-time job.
05:57 And because of his grueling schedule,
06:01 anchoring a radio program before 6 a.m.,
06:07 managing our radio stations,
06:11 and anchoring a TV news program up to 12 midnight,
06:17 I told Mike that he can have a small bedroom at his office
06:26 where maybe he can join in.
06:32 But he did not accept my offer.
06:36 His other program, Investigador,
06:40 was one of the top-rating public affairs programs
06:46 and runs its own action center
06:51 catering to various needs of people from all walks of life.
06:58 And Saksic was the first Philippine news program
07:05 to win Best Newscast at the New York festivals.
07:12 Now, off-camera, Mike spoke in a calm manner,
07:21 articulate in both English and Filipino,
07:26 and as a leader, Mike led with a heart and with his bodies.
07:37 And even when he was on medical leave already,
07:42 he did his best to join the board and officers' meetings.
07:52 Perhaps it is because Mike's heart ached for those who need help.
08:00 He was already organizing a group whose advocacy
08:06 was to make dialysis and kidney procedures
08:12 affordable to Filipinos.
08:17 Until the very end, his purpose in doing things
08:23 was still about servicio to the world.
08:29 Like many of you and us, I had been eagerly waiting for the day
08:36 that he would walk back into the studio of 24 Hours
08:42 and say his iconic lines.
08:47 But the Lord has other plans.
08:51 And exactly a month before his 72nd birthday,
08:58 Mike joined our creative.
09:03 According to an interview with a newspaper many years back,
09:10 Mike was reading the book "How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free,"
09:20 authored by Ernie Senilski.
09:25 And one of the lines from that book reads,
09:29 "You were given three special gifts when you were born.
09:38 The gifts of life, love, and laughter."
09:46 Mike, my dear friend, thank you for sharing those three gifts with us.
10:03 At this point, I would like to thank baby Mike's wife
10:12 for lending Mike to us.
10:15 You were such a great part in his success.
10:22 Now that we in GMA are here for you.
10:28 No one can replace Mike Enriquez
10:33 and all the goodness he brought into this world.
10:39 We say farewell to Mike, but his legacy will live on.
10:45 Paalam, Mike, at maraming maraming salamat
10:51 sa pagkahatid ng balitang walang pinipidingan, walang pinaprotektahan,
11:00 walang kasinungalingan, selbisyo, totoo, laman.
11:07 Lahat ng iyong mga kapuso will sorely miss you.
11:14 Salamat.
11:16 [applause]
11:17 [silence]
