Transcript
00:00 The Department of Environment and Natural Resources launched a project which aims to
00:03 protect Mother Nature through necessary measures facilitated by various government agencies.
00:09 Gabby Natividad has more.
00:14 As an archipelago, the Philippines is well acquainted with the indisputable importance
00:18 of its numerous land and water bodies, which is why the country is expediting necessary
00:23 preemptive and mitigating measures to ensure that lands and seas under its jurisdiction
00:27 are kept safe and clean.
00:30 This is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s advocacy to combat climate
00:34 change by legislating environment-friendly laws and projects.
00:38 Earlier today, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, or DNR, launched the
00:43 30x30 Philippines Project through the Biodiversity Bureau.
00:47 30x30 is a global conservation pledge participated over by 190 countries worldwide.
00:53 The project aims to protect 30 percent of the planet's land and oceans by 2030.
00:58 The project aims to propagate the dissemination of necessary ecological information and action
01:03 plans facilitated by government channels and organizations, and actively participated in
01:08 by locals.
01:09 As it stands, the 30x30 Philippines Project is supported by a number of government agencies,
01:15 non-profit organizations, academics, and local government units.
01:20 According to DNR Secretary Maria Antonio Yulo-Loizada, as related by Undersecretary Augusto de la
01:26 Peña, the correct implementation of the action plans of the 30x30 Philippines is critical
01:31 to the country's future.
01:32 In realizing and achieving our new global commitments on environment, particularly in
01:37 catalyzing a pathway to a highly high-quality implementation of the 30x30, a concerted global
01:46 effort requires an equally concerted national effort across both the public and private
01:53 sector.
01:54 To our local communities and indigenous peoples, the DNR Secretary added that the Philippines
01:59 is well-known for being the proud home to various terrestrial and aquamarine life, which
02:04 is why the government should underscore efforts to conserve and protect its environment.
02:09 The Philippines, being one of the richest and most biodiverse countries in the world,
02:14 recognizes the need for an even more concerted global effort to truly make impactful and
02:21 positive changes for the environment.
02:24 Meanwhile, Senator Lauren Legarda, a long-standing advocate of environment efforts, called out
02:29 to her call lawmakers and government officials to not be complacent and continue their prod
02:35 until a visible, lasting change is produced.
02:38 More than a hundred government officials from various agencies, several organizations, members
02:43 of the academe, and local government heads attended the launch of the 30x30 Philippines
02:49 project.
02:50 Gabby Natividad, for the Nation.
