00:03 You know, we got this question from social media.
00:07 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:08 You know, somebody asked.
00:18 Can you answer that, Joe?
00:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:21 Chan from January to August.
00:25 I'm either at home or at work in my business.
00:29 Right.
00:30 And [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] are not familiar
00:33 that you are actually in business and you do your music.
00:39 Yes, because especially now with the technology change,
00:44 it's very hard to live on music.
00:47 That's why my advice to the young composers, young singers,
00:50 is that use that as a hobby or on the side,
00:54 but get another career, either in law or accounting
00:59 or medicine, and then just do music on the side.
01:03 Don't lose it completely, because that's
01:05 God's given gift to you.
01:07 OK.
01:08 Let's go to your process.
01:09 Let's go to the way you make music,
01:11 I mean, outside of "Christians in Our Hearts."
01:13 Usually, Joe, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:15 How do you do it?
01:17 Almost always, it's the melody.
01:20 You hear that?
01:21 Yeah.
01:21 Sometimes I hear that at night, and I tell myself,
01:26 tomorrow morning when I wake up, I'm
01:28 going to write it down or record it.
01:31 Almost always, boy, like a song in the night, it disappears.
01:36 That's why from now on, every time I hear a melody,
01:40 I have to sing it right away and write it down.
01:43 And the way I write it down is simple, one to seven.
01:47 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:49 Right.
01:50 Yeah.
01:50 OK.
01:51 So that I don't lose the melody.
01:53 And then the lyrics come afterwards.
01:55 Interesting.
01:56 You have that distinct voice.
02:00 You know, that's the equity.
02:02 I mean, we're talking about brand.
02:04 Your brand equity is that soothing voice.
02:07 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:10 The moment you started singing, that's Joe Maritchan.
02:13 Is that inborn?
02:14 I mean, did you train?
02:16 How did it happen?
02:17 I never get a vocal coach all my life.
02:19 Really?
02:20 Yeah.
02:21 Since I was a little boy, I would sing along to the radio,
02:25 you know, to the songs that I heard on the radio.
02:28 And then at one time, I even performed in a children's hour
02:32 show in Iloilo City.
02:34 But do you have rituals?
02:35 Like, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:38 Usually, before a concert, I would vocalize for about an
02:42 hour, no?
02:44 And I would clear my nose so that I can breathe normally.
02:49 And then I also have an idiot board
02:52 so that sometimes I forget my own lyrics.
02:54 At my age, boy, sometimes I'm forgetful.
02:57 That's OK.
02:57 Streisand does it.
02:59 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:00 That we began our Christmas celebration with you here
03:04 on Fast Talk.
03:05 Thank you.
03:05 What an honor.
03:07 Thank you.
03:07 What an honor for me, boy, that I was
03:10 asked to guest in your show.
03:12 Fast Talk.
03:13 The honor is also ours.
