Australia Helicopter Crash: Osprey helicopter carrying 23 US Marines crashes in Melville island
  • 8 months ago
23 US Marines have been injured after an Osprey aircraft crashed during military exercises in Australia. 5 marines have been transferred to hospital – one of whom is in the operating room – while others are being treated at the scene. Two US Marine Osprey aircraft left Darwin and flew towards Tiwi Islands, about 80 km away, and one of the aircraft crashed on Melville Island. Melville Island is located some 60 kilometers north of the Australian mainland in the eastern Timor Sea. The incident took place during Exercise Predator’s Run 2023. Numerous accidents involving Osprey military aircraft have been reported over the years. In 2022 five US Marines had died after their MV-22B Osprey plane crashed during a training mission near California. The same year four US service members were killed when their Osprey crashed during NATO training exercises in Norway.
