00:00 Does he okay? Does he feel okay? Does he hurt?
00:03 That's everyone's first question.
00:05 His snout just grew in the womb.
00:10 Twisted, but it doesn't hurt him.
00:13 And it doesn't affect his ability to eat or chew.
00:17 When he wants something,
00:18 he figures out how he's gonna get it.
00:20 He's become an incredible counter-surfer.
00:22 He has survived pretty incredible odds from puppyhood.
00:29 Puppies with any kind of facial deformity
00:32 can have a very hard time nursing.
00:34 So I don't know how he survived
00:35 competing with his siblings and getting enough to eat,
00:38 but he did.
00:39 I asked our rescue partner
00:43 if they had any dogs with special needs.
00:46 So she sent me a picture of him
00:48 and I fell in love with his photo.
00:50 And so I said, "We take him."
00:52 And then a couple of days later, they said,
00:53 "Oh, by the way, he has a brother."

00:59 Wow, now this one looks like a Picasso painting.
01:04 We had to name him Picasso,
01:06 and then it just made sense to name his brother Pablo.
01:08 A lot of people, I think, wanted to adopt Picasso,
01:24 but not Pablo.
01:25 We knew we couldn't separate them.
01:28 They're just way too bonded to each other.
01:30 I figured if they were therapy dogs,
01:32 they might come be a wonderful pair of dogs.
01:34 He literally was walking with us and lay down and died.
01:44 Kept looking for him everywhere.
01:49 I'd check all of the places, like every bed,
01:52 outside, go inside, outside.
01:54 He just kept thinking his brother was coming back.
01:58 And I think that was the moment
02:00 when I realized he cannot be alone.
02:02 You know, he's never been alone.
02:04 He can't let Picasso be alone.
02:06 The only choice I have is to try
02:08 and make him fit into my crazy family.
02:10 I love this dog and he just lost his soulmate.
02:13 It really took him until he started meeting my dogs
02:22 and then I saw him start to come back alive
02:24 and perk up and look happy again.
02:27 Wombat, I think, has become for Picasso what Pablo was.
02:31 You know, his main cuddle buddy
02:33 and the other dog that he can hang out with
02:36 and play with and sleep next to.
02:38 It was like he'd always been part of our family.
02:41 From the moment he met Sam,
02:51 we interacted with her in the chair.
02:53 He had no fear.
02:55 He has been helping us train Picasso,
02:58 but it also is really wonderful for her
03:00 because he's house-bound.
03:02 It's been a really motivating thing for her
03:05 to get up and go out to Picasso,
03:07 and she's been happy both.
03:09 We've had some really touching letters come to us
03:18 from people who were either born with differences
03:22 to their face or had things happen to them
03:25 that changed their appearance
03:27 so that they didn't look like everybody else.
03:29 And they really have related to Picasso
03:32 and how he is different and yet he's happy
03:36 and people love him and it's okay to look different.
03:39 It's a beautiful thing.
