00:00 - [speaking Spanish]
00:03 - [speaking Spanish]
00:06 - [speaking Spanish]
00:09 - [speaking Spanish]
00:12 - Instructions there by Nicolas Perillo.
00:14 Or in Uruguay, Argentina, they say "Perillo."
00:17 So...they're in Uruguay, so we say "Perillo."
00:20 We'll put it that way.
00:22 - [speaking Spanish]
00:24 - About to start this first round of a scheduled...
00:28 - [speaking Spanish]
00:30 - ...eighth round.
00:32 Underway here at the Radisson Victoria Plaza
00:34 in Montevideo.
00:36 Joel Cano, the man from Uruguay,
00:38 Montevideo, in those--
00:40 I guess, those celeste silver and blue trunks,
00:43 and the Argentine, Walter Cordova,
00:46 in the solid black hits--
00:47 or solid black trunks, I should say--
00:49 George Dimitelis alongside Pauli Malignaggi.
00:52 How much pressure on Cano as the hometown guy
00:54 to win this fight in front of his fellow countrymen,
00:57 if you will?
00:58 - Well, you know, it's pressure in general.
01:00 You know, you're the touted prospect,
01:02 but, you know, you're facing a guy who's 6'1",
01:04 so he also himself feels like he's a prospect.
01:06 So you don't expect a guy like Cordova,
01:08 despite him being on the B-side tonight,
01:10 to come in with an opponent mentality.
01:12 You can see he's looking to try to make an effort
01:14 to be first on that jab,
01:15 and both guys are trying to dictate
01:16 that center ring right now
01:18 as we're getting underway in this fight.
01:20 You know, Cano, you're 6'0".
01:22 It's actually very commendable
01:23 that you're taking on an opposition
01:25 with this kind of record already.
01:27 - Pretty evenly matched fight between both fighters.
01:29 Cano 6'0" with one knockout,
01:32 and Cordova 6'1" with three knockouts.
01:38 Last fight for Cordova,
01:41 the man from Argentina in the black trunks.
01:43 A loss and a unanimous decision to Diego Fabian Martinez.
01:47 This is the first time that--
01:48 that Cordova is fighting outside of Argentina.
01:55 - Manuel Cano 6'0" in his last fight.
01:58 Six-round unanimous decision victory
02:00 over Jorge "Denis" Nis.
02:02 Early action here with Cordova on the ropes.
02:06 Ooh, good shot.
02:17 - Nice shot to the head.
02:19 - Ooh.
02:21 Another left hand there.
02:24 Cordova trying to fight his way out of this one.
02:30 Good start for Cano.
02:36 Good fighters and great fights.
02:38 - Yeah, that counter was a sharp hook to the head.
02:41 And Cordova kind of leaned in a little bit too much
02:43 with the attempted hook to the body,
02:45 which I thought actually got in there pretty good.
02:47 It just kind of left his head out on a platter,
02:49 reached out too much, and all Cano had to do there
02:52 was just drop a left hook to the head.
02:54 It was sitting there for him.
02:56 Again, you see Cordova trying to dig in that body shot.
02:59 A little more success there
03:00 as he was able to partially block the counter hook of Cano,
03:03 but Cano once again tried to counter it the same way.
03:05 Cordova's got to be careful searching for that body shot.
03:08 - Looks like Cano in that southpaw stance
03:11 has been very effective with that left hand.
03:16 - Yeah, in the orthodox stance, excuse me.
03:19 [clicking]
03:20 - Yeah, Cordova is, uh--
03:22 was using the jab pretty effectively early on
03:25 before Cano landed that big hook.
03:26 There he goes back to the jab again.
03:28 He's got to be careful.
03:29 I mean, he's got to not be careful,
03:31 but he's actually got to look to try to establish himself
03:34 back in that jab again,
03:35 'cause he was having more success earlier around Cordova
03:38 when he was using that jab.
03:40 - So we see that Wednesday,
03:45 and two days after this one,
03:46 the live fights continue here on Pro Box TV.
03:49 Orlando Gonzalez against Ramiro Cesena
03:52 in a ten-round super featherweight fight.
03:55 Capu Gonzalez against Demon Cesena.
03:58 Puerto Rico versus Mexico.
03:59 Here's some good action from that first round
04:01 with that left hand of Cano.
04:02 - Yeah, and that was it right there.
04:03 Actually, you know, Cordova actually got
04:04 a nice little sharp right hand on the counter
04:06 as Cano tried to close the gap after.
04:08 I hadn't noticed that during the round.
04:09 That was actually a good right hand by Cordova
04:11 as Cano tried to close the gap as it went in.
04:13 That was a nice hook, as you can see in that replay.
04:15 Cordova made that mistake of trying to reach in
04:17 too much with that left hook
04:18 and Cano dropped it with that left hook to the head.
04:21 So you kind of get lower when you drop that left hook
04:23 to the body there.
04:24 You know, O'Connor had to do it and drop it right to the head.
04:27 - So you gave the first round to Cano?
04:29 - Yeah, but it was close,
04:30 because I thought Cordova did a good job
04:32 of jabbing early in the round.
04:33 It's just he got himself caught.
04:34 You know, the bigger shots will usually win you a round.
04:36 If Cordova can get back on that jab
04:37 and not make so many mistakes,
04:39 he could trouble Cano a little bit,
04:40 'cause I noticed Cano doesn't really use his jab
04:42 the way he should.
04:43 He kind of pauses it out there
04:44 and doesn't really try to dictate with it,
04:46 while Cordova, on the other hand,
04:47 you know, there's moments where he's looking to dictate
04:49 with that jab and snap it out there.
04:51 - And don't forget to subscribe, like, and comment
04:54 on all our social media platforms
04:56 and download the Pro Box TV app.
05:00 Believe me, it is worth the price,
05:03 and considering the price of many things,
05:06 it's a good deal for sure, the Pro Box TV app.
05:10 - And the subscription to ProBoxTV.com as well.
05:13 Get news, talk shows, and live fights
05:16 like this one here from Montevideo.
05:18 Second round between Joel Cano
05:20 in the silver and black trunks
05:22 and Walter Cordova of Argentina in the black trunks.
05:27 - Good shots there by Cordova.
05:28 I tell you, Cordova has some good shot selection,
05:31 but now he's just got to stay smart
05:32 and not give it back to Cano like he did in round one.
05:35 Cano trying to come forward making the fight,
05:37 but Cordova, to me, a little sharper,
05:39 although Cano with a nice left uppercut there.
05:41 You see the way Cordova responds right away.
05:43 Cordova, again, he's not really taking the approach
05:45 that he came in as the opponent.
05:46 He is the out-of-town guy, but he showed up to fight.
05:49 - And it looks like that left uppercut
05:52 that landed there by Cano,
05:53 is that an indication that maybe he's settled his nerves
05:56 a little bit fighting in front of his hometown?
05:58 - Yeah, yeah, it's possible.
05:59 You know, I mean, I thought he had a good round
06:01 in the first round because that counter left hook,
06:04 he landed a better power shot,
06:05 but also it tells you that Cordova is in this fight
06:08 because you've also got your own nerves
06:10 coming from out of town
06:11 and fighting in front of your opponent's hometown.
06:14 - See, it looks like Cano with that reach advantage.
06:19 Trying to use that jab to kind of get the range there.
06:25 - Oh, nice counter right hand.
06:26 Well, that's the problem.
06:27 He's a little bit lazy with the left hand.
06:28 I actually prefer Cordova's jab
06:29 because he snaps it out there a little more often.
06:31 - Ooh. - Like right there, you know?
06:33 Cano, on the other hand,
06:34 sometimes he lays it out there a little too much,
06:35 and it allowed Cordova about 20 seconds
06:37 to go to Cano with a nice right hand.
06:38 Well, now, nice little salvo here by Cano
06:41 as he's going to the body and to the head,
06:42 but a return fire from Cordova with a nice combination.
06:45 - Ooh, another good left.
06:47 - These rounds are gonna be close here.
06:49 - You can see, it seems like every time he pops out
06:53 that jab there, Cordova, that head pops back of Cano.
06:57 At least that's what I'm noticing
06:58 is now Cano has Cordova on the ropes,
07:00 but Cordova fights off.
07:03 - Ooh.
07:05 - Good pace to this fight so far.
07:07 - Yeah, yeah, and again, good evenly matched fight.
07:11 That's why we're providing you
07:13 Samson "Lakewix" Yoho from South America here.
07:15 We believe in this nice counter right hand there
07:17 by Cordova and followed by a nice combination on a counter.
07:20 You see, Cano tries to consistently counter
07:22 with his left hook, though.
07:23 That's what Cordova's gotta be careful.
07:24 - Oh! We have a knockdown here.
07:27 - But no-- - That's his hometown.
07:29 This is why the nerves are more for the guy
07:31 who's just come out of town.
07:32 That's a knockdown who was just taken away from you
07:34 because of the hometown.
07:35 Could be the foot there, but he--
07:37 Also, he's got an injury.
07:38 Looks like he's looking back to his corner.
07:39 I wonder what that's gonna come up this year.
07:41 The mistake you're gonna notice if we get this replay
07:43 is he pulls back straight and squared up.
07:45 You never wanna pull back straight and squared up like that
07:48 because you're gonna put yourself in the line of fire.
07:50 You're not gonna get yourself out of the line of fire
07:52 and Cordova was able to land some shots.
07:54 It could have been some footing,
07:55 but all at the same time, shots did land
07:56 because he pulled back.
07:57 I thought personally it was a knockdown.
07:59 We'll see if we get a replay.
08:00 We'll check it out.
08:01 That was my initial reaction.
08:02 I thought it was a knockdown as well.
08:04 And then the way you say the people--
08:06 the referee reacted.
08:08 Maybe it was a slip,
08:09 but I thought it was a knockdown at first.
08:11 Yeah.
08:13 This is some of the other action from the round.
08:15 You see right there?
08:16 I mean, the right hand landed.
08:17 I don't know.
08:18 You don't get the feet there on that replay, though.
08:19 That's the thing, 'cause he seemed like he went down
08:21 a little bit after.
08:22 If you could see the feet,
08:23 you would have a definitive answer.
08:24 You don't have a definitive answer there.
08:26 The right hand lands, and he doesn't go down right away
08:28 right off the right hand.
08:29 So it could have been a delayed reaction,
08:31 knockdown, which still would have been knockdown,
08:33 but also could have been that, you know,
08:35 on the front step as Cordoba came forward
08:38 to try to follow that up.
08:39 He may have stepped on the foot of Cano.
08:41 We didn't get a look there,
08:42 but, you know, either/or is a possibility.
08:44 The referee had a better angle of it, though,
08:46 but a lot of times the referees aren't looking at the feet
08:48 either, so who knows?
08:49 Could just be that he decided to be of a hometown.
08:52 So does that--
08:54 did that give the round to Cordoba, or is this--
08:56 I mean, I thought Cordoba won it anyway.
08:57 There's a real knockdown.
08:58 There's a real knockdown there as Cano goes down,
09:01 and I think that's an indication that maybe the one
09:03 we saw in the second round was really a knockdown,
09:05 is he's getting the standing 10 count there
09:08 from Nicolás Perillo.
09:09 Went to eight, and they continue to exchange
09:16 in the middle of the ring here.
09:18 Cano responding.
09:20 Cano trying to get spurred on by the hometown crowd now.
09:22 You know, he doesn't want to look bad
09:23 in front of the hometown crowd.
09:25 He got knocked down, but he came out on the front foot,
09:26 trying to return fire to Cordoba.
09:28 And he's actually backing up Cordoba
09:30 after being knocked down.
09:31 He's trying to get the round back.
09:33 And now Cano the aggressor.
09:35 Cordoba just protecting himself on the ropes.
09:38 Uppercut, flurry of punches.
09:40 Cordoba counters back.
09:41 Cordoba's nice shots in between--
09:42 Break, break, break.
09:43 --between Cano.
09:44 He's got to be careful that Cano--
09:45 [INAUDIBLE]
09:46 --get too alert.
09:48 Action-packed third round.
09:51 And as we say on Pro Box TV, good fighters in great fights.
09:55 [CROWD CHANTING]
09:58 And for more fights like this,
10:01 you want to go on the app there, Pro Box TV,
10:03 and leave your comments on all our social medias.
10:06 This round 3--
10:07 Yeah, go sign up.
10:08 Yes.
10:09 We're filling up Pro Box TV with more and more content--
10:12 live boxing events, news, and talk shows.
10:15 This is a big momentum, back and forth going here
10:19 within this round.
10:20 It's Cano and Cordoba both tearing into each other.
10:22 That knockdown spurred them both on here.
10:24 Now Cano almost has woken up from that knockdown.
10:27 He's trying to out-punch Cordoba
10:29 and get at least some of the round back.
10:31 Cordoba still trying to punch in between.
10:34 What a great third round.
10:35 We had a knockdown, and then the response by Cano.
10:37 He is landing some hard shots.
10:39 Cordoba responding.
10:41 Cordoba's very, very crafty, though, in there.
10:44 He throws in between Cano.
10:45 Right when Cano starts to commit a little bit,
10:47 Cordoba punches right in between him
10:49 and lands some really good, clean shots.
10:51 [speaking Spanish]
10:53 This third round has certainly ignited the crowd here
10:56 in Montevideo at the Radisson Victoria Plaza.
10:59 Cano showing a lot of heart there,
11:03 going down and then battling back.
11:05 [crowd chanting]
11:07 The crowd chanting, "Uruguay, Uruguay."
11:11 [crowd chanting]
11:15 Cordoba's face looks like it did not--
11:17 one mark on his face.
11:18 He's been pretty good moving.
11:21 [crowd chanting]
11:23 Cano stayed on that front foot since being knocked down,
11:26 though.
11:27 Got to give him credit for that.
11:28 And he's taken a couple more shots while on that front foot.
11:30 He's gotten a better reaction since,
11:32 but Cordoba also punches very well in between Cano.
11:36 Left hook of Cordoba looking very dangerous.
11:40 [crowd chanting]
11:42 Again, Cordoba in between.
11:44 Oh, three shots.
11:45 Oh, got him right with that last shot
11:47 right before the end of the third round.
11:49 What a great round.
11:51 Got him knocked down and then a great comeback by Cano.
11:53 This is Pro Box TV, baby.
11:55 This is what we want.
11:57 Great job there from both Joel Cano and Walter Cordoba,
12:02 that left hook.
12:03 And don't forget, Wednesday, July 26,
12:05 just a couple of days after this fight,
12:07 Orlando Gonzalez, Romero, Chisinau, the main event.
12:10 Ten rounds in the super featherweight division.
12:12 Capu Gonzalez of Puerto Rico and Demon Chisinau of Mexico.
12:18 Kissimmee Civic Center, great Orlando area.
12:20 Don't want to miss it here on Pro Box TV.
12:24 Wednesday night fights.
12:25 We give you good fighters and great fights.
12:28 And they're so evenly matched that you just--
12:31 they're always going to deliver.
12:32 Wednesday, July 26, the card begins 7 p.m. Eastern,
12:35 5 p.m. Ciudad de Mexico, and 4 p.m. Pacific.
12:39 The best action.
12:40 Look at that.
12:42 Great knockdown there by Walter Cordoba.
12:47 And then Cano responding in round 4 here on Pro Box TV.
12:54 And we'll see how both of these fighters
12:57 follow up that third round.
12:59 George Dimantelis alongside the magic man, Pauly Malignaggi.
13:02 Thank you very much for joining us here on Pro Box TV,
13:06 your boxing channel.
13:09 And we'll see you next time.
13:11 Promote good fighters and great fights.
13:14 Oh, again, punching in between.
13:16 Cordoba--I mean, Cano gives you the effort,
13:18 and a lot of times because of that effort,
13:20 he starts to take control of the round.
13:22 I think in the last round, he stormed back very well
13:25 after being knocked down, but Cordoba will surprise
13:27 and shock him with some well-timed shots in between.
13:30 And now Cano has Cordoba on the ropes,
13:32 but Cordoba managed to escape.
13:34 Ooh, just missing that big right hook there was Cano.
13:38 - Yeah, you're getting it for sure.
13:40 - You're doing it here. You get it.
13:42 - So what adjustment--what does Cordoba have to make
13:44 in terms of adjustments here?
13:46 - I mean, Cordoba has to get back on his jab.
13:48 You know, he's allowing Cano to close the gap,
13:50 not using his jab, and because he's not using his jab,
13:52 you know, Cano's able to close the gap.
13:54 Although he punches well in between, don't get me wrong.
13:56 As a matter of fact, Cano, despite making the better
13:58 of the action and pushing forward more,
14:01 is probably getting hit with the cleaner shots
14:03 while Cordoba is on the retreat.
14:05 It's just the body language of the fight
14:07 that is Cano consistently coming forward,
14:09 and when you're in the other guy's hometown,
14:11 you don't want to let that happen,
14:13 but I like the way Cordoba's working,
14:15 even inside and between him, but if I'm Cordoba,
14:17 I would probably want to use my jab
14:19 a little bit more consistently.
14:21 You'd like to see that a little bit more from Cordoba
14:23 as that was bringing him some success early on,
14:25 and it was forcing Cano to sort of respect
14:27 that middle-to-long-distance range.
14:29 - Is there--is there, in boxing,
14:31 when a fighter gets a knockdown,
14:33 is there that urge to just go for the power punches
14:35 instead of kind of get back to the boxing?
14:37 - I mean, a lot of times when you score the knockdown,
14:39 you're able to--you know, you're looking to try
14:41 to finish your opponent, but, you know,
14:43 the reaction from the opponent can be either/or.
14:45 It's survive or to, you know, get on the front foot
14:47 and try to get the energy back.
14:49 You see Cano is obviously not trying to get his first--
14:51 the first L on his record in his hometown,
14:53 that's for sure.
14:55 - Walter Cordoba, 6-1 with three knockouts,
14:57 and Cano 6-0,
14:59 and it seemed like that knockdown
15:01 woke up El Cano there,
15:03 and he has kind of been in command
15:05 since he was knocked down,
15:07 which is kind of unusual, but that seems to be the case.
15:09 - Yeah, but Cordoba's also--
15:11 and he's a really clean shot to me.
15:13 I don't know.
15:15 Again, it's a hometown of Cano,
15:17 so probably the pressure's gonna get him in these round one,
15:19 but this is--this is not an easy fight to score
15:21 if you're scoring it honestly,
15:23 which, of course, he--oh, again, cleaner shot,
15:25 and then Cano forced to hold on
15:27 with a cleaner punching of Cordoba.
15:29 - It seems to me like in--
15:31 in kind of close quarters,
15:33 Cordoba gets the better shots,
15:35 and Cano maybe connects better from long range.
15:37 - Yeah, but I don't know that Cano's commanding
15:39 that cleanly even when he's connected.
15:41 It's like a lot of it is partially catching on.
15:43 See, like, look, he's getting the better
15:45 of the momentum of the round
15:47 where he's pushing back Cordoba,
15:49 so the body language looks good for Cano,
15:51 but the actual powerful shots being landed
15:54 are being landed better by Cordoba in that.
15:56 It's just what do the judges want to see
15:58 because we're in Cano's hometown.
16:00 - Timing certainly is important.
16:02 Who you got so far, Paulie, after four rounds?
16:04 Who you got? 'Cause it's close.
16:06 - I got Cordoba up 3-1 so far.
16:08 - Ooh, Cordoba 3-1. - Plus the knockdown, yeah.
16:10 - Oh, okay, okay. - I think he's landing
16:12 the better shots. You know, it's--
16:14 Cano's giving you good effort here.
16:16 You know, you can go either way in the last round.
16:19 I gave it to Cordoba. I thought he landed
16:21 the better, cleaner shots. You can go either way
16:23 in the last round, but I thought the previous two rounds
16:25 were Cordoba rounds.
16:27 But the first round was for Cano.
16:29 I think he landed that good hook
16:31 when Cordoba was reaching to the body.
16:34 - It certainly has been an eventful fight,
16:36 especially the last two rounds
16:38 between Juan Cano and Walter Cordoba.
16:40 - I think this fight's gonna continue with the fireworks
16:42 in the last two rounds. I think it's still all to fight for here.
16:44 And again, both guys have the mindset of a prospect.
16:46 One is 6-0, one is 6-1. - Yep.
16:48 - So both guys have the mindset that I'm not an opponent,
16:50 I'm a prospect, and they're gonna continue
16:52 to fight that way.
16:54 - Let us know what you think here
16:56 on the comment section
16:58 of who's winning this fight,
17:00 how you got this fight scored so far.
17:02 - Cordoba trying to get back on that jab now.
17:04 Cano does not want to have it. He wants to come forward again.
17:06 See, Cano never really uses that good of a jab.
17:08 If I'm getting at you, he's never really used that good of a jab.
17:10 And Cordoba-- that's something Cordoba's supposed to take advantage of.
17:12 He's supposed to use his own jab
17:14 and then not give him the free pass.
17:16 You see again Cordoba with a timing shot. Cordoba's timing has been better.
17:18 His jab is better. It's just he doesn't use it very well.
17:20 Another good timing shot there by Cordoba on the counter right.
17:22 But Cano himself, despite being a taller guy,
17:24 doesn't have a really-- that good of a jab.
17:26 Even when he uses it, he's kind of front foot heavy,
17:28 leans in with it. It's not really that impressive.
17:30 So that's why he wants to just be close
17:32 and try to overwhelm Cordoba
17:34 with combinations and punches.
17:36 - We saw in the first two rounds,
17:38 you mentioned he was kind of lazy with that jab as well,
17:40 kind of just holding his arm out there, waiting,
17:42 trying to get the range,
17:44 and Cordoba was lightening him up,
17:46 taking advantage of it.
17:48 - I can see why Cano is 6-0
17:50 with only one knockout, though.
17:52 'Cause what he does, even when he throws that one-two,
17:54 he's front foot heavy on the jab.
17:56 So when he follows it with a right hand,
17:58 there's no weight on it.
18:00 There's no weight on the right hand
18:02 because he's put all the weight already
18:04 on the jab being on the front foot.
18:06 When you throw that jab, you want to keep your weight
18:08 on that back foot, so that way you can transfer that weight
18:10 from the back foot to the front foot
18:12 when you bring that right hand behind the jab.
18:14 'Cause that's the shot you want the weight on.
18:16 - Well, Cano in the silver and blue trunks,
18:18 and Walter Cordoba, the Argentine,
18:20 in the all-black trunks.
18:22 Certainly has been an eventful fight.
18:24 It was a knockdown in the third round.
18:26 Although I don't think it was officially scored
18:28 as a knockdown, but we both agree it was a knockdown.
18:30 And then the fourth round definitely was a knockdown.
18:32 - Yeah, oh, absolutely. - Yeah.
18:34 - The third round, I think the second and third round it was.
18:36 Last round, Cano came back, but I thought Cordoba
18:38 still had, you know, some of the better way in the punches.
18:40 - Certainly has been an eventful fight here
18:42 between two fighters
18:44 with six wins on their record.
18:46 - I think this round is a good competitive round so far.
18:48 I think it could be all the fight for here
18:50 in the final minute.
18:52 And remember, Cordoba has to always keep in mind
18:54 that he's in his opponent's hometown,
18:56 so he's got to try to
18:58 put some more emphasis on the rounds he wins.
19:00 He did it well with the knockdown,
19:02 but even in these rounds like this
19:04 where there's a couple of lulls and you don't really know
19:06 which way it's gonna go, odds are if the round goes this way,
19:08 they're probably gonna give it to the hometown guy.
19:10 So you want to try to put a little bit more emphasis
19:12 in the way you win the rounds.
19:14 It's part of--sort of the responsibility
19:16 you have to, unfortunately, take upon yourself
19:18 when you're in somebody's hometown.
19:20 But for us, it's good, 'cause it makes good action fights.
19:22 - Good action fights, yeah. - Let's see.
19:24 - So does Cordoba--I guess
19:26 the question I'm gonna ask,
19:28 I'll put it out there, does Cordoba have to knock out
19:30 kind of just to make sure?
19:32 - I mean, that's always nice, but it's not--you know,
19:34 you got another professional fighter in front of you,
19:36 it's not always easy to just get in there and knock him out.
19:38 But of course, you want to get a nice body shot there by Conor.
19:40 You know, that's always a nice answer,
19:42 but regardless, if you don't get the knockout,
19:44 you want to try to be as emphatic as you possibly can.
19:46 Obviously, you got another live guy in front of you
19:48 with an undefeated record. It's not easy.
19:50 - Right.
19:52 It definitely has not been easy, and both fighters
19:54 have shown a lot of heart in this matchup here
19:56 at 147.

20:11 It is worth the price, and trust me,
20:13 when you consider the way things have gone
20:15 nowadays with prices, it is worth it.
20:17 I mean, it costs less than a cup of coffee.
20:19 It costs less than what you would get
20:21 at a vending machine, for sure.
20:23 Don't forget, August 9th, Wednesday night fights
20:25 at the ProBox Event Center in Plant City, Florida.
20:27 Etar Eranosyan versus Roger Gutierrez
20:31 in a WBA World Super Featherweight title eliminator
20:35 in what has been an eventful fight
20:38 here in Montevideo.
20:41 Looking for...
20:44 a winner here.
20:47 Round number six.
20:50 An entertaining fight between Argentina's
20:55 Walter Cordova looking for win number seven,
20:58 and Juel Cano trying to remain undefeated.
21:01 It's the first of two
21:07 welterweight bouts that we have for you here on ProBoxTV.
21:10 The next one is going to be following this fight.
21:13 And this fight is Victor Rodriguez,
21:17 another Uruguayan native from Maldonado,
21:20 will be taking on Eduardo Cordova
21:22 of Los Teques, Venezuela.
21:24 Eight rounds in the welterweight division,
21:26 and of course, this is a good week for welterweights,
21:29 I think it's safe to say,
21:31 with the upcoming fight, super fight for sure,
21:34 between Terence Crawford and...
21:36 - Oh, and again, good counter shots by Cordova.
21:40 Again, the timing of Cordova has been
21:43 very subtle but effective,
21:45 and he's been able to allow him to land
21:47 the better eye-catching shots.
21:50 See again, Cano--ooh!
21:53 Not really active with that jab,
21:55 and he gets front foot heavy, and that makes a guy--
21:57 a guy who gets front foot heavy on the jab is easy to counter,
21:59 especially for a guy who, like Cordova,
22:02 who seems to understand the level of timing he needs.
22:06 A guy like Cano makes it easier for you
22:08 when he gets on that front foot.
22:09 He's able to get on that front foot when he's jabbing.
22:12 - And also, Cano looks like the hands have dropped a little bit.
22:15 That's dangerous, or am I saying things, or--
22:17 - Yeah, well, you don't want to come forward
22:18 with your hands down, that's for sure.
22:19 At least if your hands are gonna be low,
22:20 you want to fight on that back foot,
22:22 which I don't know that Cano has learned anything
22:24 about being on the back foot,
22:25 'cause he comes forward on the front foot,
22:27 and he throws his punches from the front foot,
22:29 which again, unless you're a left hooker,
22:31 it's really just gonna take away power from you.
22:35 - Regardless of what the decision is,
22:37 Cordova on enemy territory, for lack of a better term,
22:41 has put up a good showing here against Cano.
22:44 - Yeah, I think he's having a good sixth round.
22:45 I thought Cano won the fifth round,
22:46 but I think Cordova's having a pretty good sixth round so far.
22:51 But again, it's still--
22:53 you want to put that extra emphasis.
22:55 Is it gonna be enough in another country?
23:00 Not just in a guy's hometown.
23:01 You're out of your own country.
23:03 Granted, they all speak Spanish down there,
23:04 so if you want to complain, you can complain.
23:06 But you want to try to avoid getting it there, you know?
23:09 - Yeah, for sure.
23:11 First time that Walter Cordova has fought
23:13 outside of Argentina.
23:16 And it'll be certainly a booster.
23:19 - Oh, again, timing shot there by Cordova.
23:23 You see Cano tries to overwhelm him, but...
23:26 - Ooh. - Cordova...
23:29 keeps that guard up, at least.
23:30 - Break, break, break it.
23:31 [speaking Spanish]
23:33 - [speaking Spanish]
23:36 - We have 10 seconds remaining here in this sixth round.
23:40 - Oh, another nice counter right hand there by Cordova,
23:42 and that backs up Cano.
23:43 Cano still making the same mistake that made him go down
23:46 earlier in the fight, which was backing up straight.
23:49 And Cordova...
23:52 gets on that eight-rounder here.
23:54 We're through six so far.
23:56 - Yes, it's gonna be--
23:58 what a great finish we have for this fight here.
24:01 I'd like to remind you that Wednesday, July 6th,
24:04 just a few days after this fight,
24:06 Orlando Gonzalez against Ramiro Cesena,
24:10 10-round super featherweight,
24:11 Capo Gonzalez of Puerto Rico
24:13 and Demonsi Cesena of Mexico,
24:16 or Cesena.
24:18 That should be a great fight from the Kissimmee Civic Center
24:21 as we take a look at the best action from round six.
24:23 Both fighters able to tag each other,
24:25 but maybe Cordova a little bit better with his timing.
24:28 - Yeah, yeah.
24:29 You saw Cano, again, making that mistake,
24:32 falling in on the front foot.
24:33 You saw an example of a couple of times
24:36 Cordova was able to take advantage of that encounter,
24:38 one of them over the top of the front foot heavy jab
24:41 with the counter right hand,
24:42 while Cordova actually was on the ropes.
24:44 He was able to time it with that counter right hand.
24:45 And then the other one, Cano fell in,
24:47 and Cordova used the uppercut, which he didn't land,
24:50 but he followed up with a hook,
24:52 and Cano, of course, again, being on the front foot,
24:54 was leaning in and got hit with that left hook of Cordova.
24:58 - Seventh round, this fight scheduled for eight rounds.
25:03 As Victor-- or excuse me, Walter Cordova,
25:06 in the black trunks from Argentina,
25:08 Joel Cano in his hometown of Montevideo,
25:10 in the silver and blue trunks.
25:13 As we have seen, two knockdowns already in this fight,
25:16 both times Joel Cano going down.
25:18 - And one didn't count, though.
25:20 - Yeah, yeah.
25:21 But we both agree, I think it should have counted.
25:23 - Yeah, yeah, it should have counted.
25:24 - Yeah, I would have-- like I said,
25:25 I would have liked to see the replay of the feet.
25:27 I think that would have been the definitive
25:30 of what it should have been,
25:31 but we didn't get that.
25:32 Good body shots there by Cano, though,
25:34 as he's backing up Cordova.
25:37 - Now, how much does conditioning play a factor
25:40 in a fight like this, which has been brutal,
25:42 both fighters absorbing shots?
25:44 - Yeah, it's been a good pace,
25:46 and it's also a demanding fight in that
25:48 it's been competitive,
25:49 so you can never really let off the gas.
25:51 Nice right hand there by Cano.
25:53 You can never really let up off the gas,
25:56 because, you know, it's competitive,
25:58 and you don't want to give an opportunity
25:59 to your opponent to have an-- to take advantage.
26:02 Although, again, Cano takes a right hand,
26:04 and then what does he do?
26:05 He goes straight back again.
26:06 The same consistent mistakes being made by Cano here.
26:10 - And now pinned on the ropes here.
26:12 Cordova will be looking to try and finish him
26:14 or at least apply some pressure.
26:16 - I'll tell you what, though.
26:17 Whether he wins or loses, Cano,
26:18 the two things he's got to go back to the gym and work on--
26:20 stop being on the front foot when he's throwing punches,
26:23 and don't go straight back defensively.
26:25 I mean, when you pull back in a straight line like that,
26:27 you make life easier for your opponent.
26:29 He's just got to come straight,
26:30 throw him punches, and he's going to hit you.
26:32 - And Cordova now, once again, has Cano on the ropes,
26:35 and the referee, Nicolas Perillo.
26:37 - He gave a standing 8 count.
26:39 - He gave a standing 8 count.
26:40 I don't know why we don't--
26:41 I don't know for sure if that's--
26:42 I guess that's the rule. I don't know why.
26:46 - Well, that's certainly going to put the round
26:48 in favor of Cordova now with that standing 8 count.
26:50 - And even in places where there's no standing 8 count,
26:52 sometimes if the referee deems that the ropes
26:54 are what's holding you up,
26:55 they count it as a knockdown.
26:57 That was that, but again, Cano's in trouble.
27:00 And Nicolas Perillo stops the fight.
27:04 The corner stops the fight,
27:06 and a huge victory for Walter Cordova.
27:09 Seven wins now, four by knockout,
27:12 and it's just--it just seemed--
27:14 in this round, it just seemed like a matter of time
27:17 as Joel Cano's defense lets him down,
27:20 and a big victory for Cordova.
27:22 Seventh round, TKO for the Argentine.
27:25 - Yeah, and no complaints from the corner for him.
27:29 I mean, that was a good stoppage.
27:31 Cano consistently made the same mistake
27:33 over and over and over again.
27:35 Front foot heavy, but then as he got more and more tired,
27:37 he was pulling back, and you pull--
27:39 it's already a mistake when you're pulling back straight,
27:41 but now you're even slower doing it.
27:43 So now your reflexes are even worse,
27:45 and you're making that defensive mistake,
27:46 and he was getting pummeled here in this last round.
27:48 The referee tried to give him a break
27:49 with that standing 8 count.
27:51 Maybe see if he'd return some fire afterwards,
27:54 and instead he just kept making the same mistake again,
27:56 and you know what?
27:57 His corner was smart enough to say, "Okay, you know what?
27:59 He's not able to defend himself. That's enough.
28:01 We've seen enough. It's over. Let's let him--
28:03 let's let him get back to work in the gym,
28:05 and maybe we'll bring him back after this,"
28:06 'cause now what happens is Cano's gonna have
28:08 the same record that Cordova had coming into this fight, right?
28:11 - That's right. - 6-1.
28:12 - 6-1. - Big win for Cordova.
28:14 - It sure was. Seventh round.
28:17 This match is stopped,
28:19 and Walter Cordova improves to 7-1.
28:22 - [speaking Spanish]
28:23 - 4 by KO,
28:25 and...
28:26 - [speaking Spanish]
28:29 - The corner stepping in for Joel Cano there.
28:32 If you take a look at the best action there.
28:36 And it started in this round with the standing 8 count
28:39 by the referee, Nicolas Perillo.
28:41 That's what really turned the fight here for Cordova.
28:46 - Yeah.
28:49 - He's taking those hard shots.
28:50 The ropes kind of keeping him up there.
28:52 - Yeah. - I think the ropes
28:53 really did keep him up, or else he would've fallen
28:55 and thrown in the towel, and they stopped the fight.
29:00 Yeah.
29:03 Disappointing for Joel Cano,
29:04 'cause he certainly wanted to win in his hometown.
29:09 Cordova just more consistent.
29:11 Cano started off well,
29:12 but then those two knockdowns in consecutive rounds
29:15 for Cordova really turned the tide,
29:17 and then just was a matter of time.
29:18 - And you could sort of see Cordova
29:19 taking the fight out of Cano,
29:20 the body language of Cano.
29:22 You know, he was trying to come forward,
29:23 but he was out of ideas, you know,
29:25 and then Cordova, as his fatigue started affecting him
29:28 and the fact that the shots were landing
29:29 started affecting him.
29:30 You could see the mistakes.
29:31 Here's Luis Peralta with the decision here.
29:34 - [speaking Spanish]
29:38 - For knockout technical,
29:41 [speaking Spanish]
29:44 - There you go.
29:54 The pirate of-- [laughs]
29:58 of Cordova, Walter Cordova.
30:01 - [speaking Spanish]
30:02 - Last name matching the--
30:03 one of the provinces in Argentina.
30:07 And if my soccer background--
30:08 I'm certainly right.
30:09 Pirata is Belgrano, if I remember correctly.
30:11 So I'm sorry.
30:13 I always got injured with soccer.
30:14 I had to have the support.
