00:02 I'll never forget it.
00:06 I said it's the most important day
00:08 in the history of the United States.
00:09 It was four o'clock in the morning.
00:11 She woke me up and was nuzzling my entire face
00:15 and it was pure bliss.
00:17 I almost started crying.
00:18 She just made this connection.
00:20 I almost fell out of my seat.
00:27 It was what people describe as love at first sight
00:29 'cause look at this.
00:30 How could I not think this is gonna be
00:32 the love of their life?
00:33 The first couple of days that I had her,
00:40 I mean, the swatting, the chasing, it was just insane.
00:44 Her aggression was very prominent.
00:45 She was very reactive.
00:47 Barbara had a dad since she was a kitten
00:52 and then he died of a heart attack in front of her.
00:55 His family tried to take her but she was too inactive
00:59 so they dropped her off at a shelter.
01:01 The shelter deemed her not adoptable.
01:04 Beth Stern pulled her out of the shelter.
01:06 I follow Beth Stern religiously.
01:07 She's got a very prominent cat handle.
01:10 She hid for a day in my floorboards.
01:14 She really wanted to go for my legs,
01:16 chasing me around the room
01:17 and I had to wear knee-high boots
01:19 and then there was one night
01:21 where she actually went for my face.
01:22 I didn't wanna give up on her
01:24 but I actually felt like I don't have control over this.
01:28 My instinct was to smother her
01:31 because it was absolute torture to look at that face
01:34 and not be able to eat it.
01:35 I put myself in her shoes
01:37 and really consider that she needed
01:39 to come to me on her terms.
01:41 Within the aggression, there were these moments
01:43 of extreme gentle affection,
01:46 like nose, boobs, and all that stuff.
01:49 I felt there was someone in there
01:50 that just needed to get more comfortable.
01:53 I kinda like saw her soul.
01:57 They say cats are independent
01:58 and you don't have to worry about them
01:59 but this is not one of those cats.
02:01 She's just really, really smothering, really loving
02:04 and then she has crazy times
02:06 where she is literally flying off the walls and the ceiling
02:11 but really, the only thing she really wants to do
02:12 is just be all over me.
02:14 I'm the center of her universe.
02:16 She needs me here.
02:17 I think if it was up to her,
02:18 she would come to work with me.
02:20 She's gonna be living on my head.
02:24 The only people that she has felt very comfortable around
02:28 have been people that work in the rescue.
02:30 I think there's something in their soul
02:31 or their experience that she picks up on.
02:33 With rescue work, she's like my rescue partner in some ways.
02:39 Every post for Barbara gains followers
02:42 for the bigger picture of rescue.
02:44 Because of her account alone,
02:45 we've saved 11, almost 12 lives.
02:48 If only she knew.
02:49 She's just the light of my life.
02:53 Everything she's overcome, that's just inspiring.
02:56 She's just such an integral part
02:57 of everything I've experienced.
