It's been exactly four decades since former senator Ninoy Aquino was assassinated at the tarmac of what was then called The Manila International Airport. For an archbishop, it is not enough to simply remember Aquino's heroism each year.

00:00 "We are not going to leave. The battle continues."
00:06 That's what Archbishop Sok Villegas said in his homily during the mass he presided
00:16 to commemorate the 40th year after Ninoy Aquino was assassinated. The mass was held in Santo
00:23 Domingo Church in Quezon City where his remains were brought before he was laid to rest.
00:29 Villegas said it's not enough for Filipinos to just remember Ninoy's heroism every year,
00:35 but also to wake up from ignorance and apathy.
00:38 Without naming anyone, he also has something to say about those who are in power.
00:53 "There are those who are willing to die for the Congress' laws and the sentence of the law
01:01 that is a blot on the return of the stolen wealth and the corruption that is not to be paid."
01:08 Ninoy's eldest daughter Balsy meanwhile insists the public should defend the truth
01:14 against those who are trying to distort history,
01:17 including his father's contribution to the nation.
01:20 "Even if we cannot face the enemy's attacks, if we help them to avoid the wrongs,
01:29 even if it's just a small part, one day we will also face the consequences."
01:34 Supporters first visited the tombs of Ninoy and Rolando Galman, the accused gunman of Ninoy,
01:40 at the Manila Memorial Park. They proceeded to Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International
01:46 Airport near the tarmac where Ninoy was slain. They also offered flowers and dedicated messages
01:53 honoring Ninoy's heroism.
01:56 "I hope people will use this opportunity to listen to our stories."
