Bayern Munich has a new hero and he's England's captain! Even by Harry Kane’s ridiculously high standards, his Bundesliga debut was breathtaking and will send shockwaves through Germany.

'Harry, Harry, Harry', roared the traveling Bayern Munich support. No wonder.

Even by Harry Kane's ridiculously high standards, this was breathtaking to witness.

Bayern got their Bundesliga defense underway here with a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen.

And it was all orchestrated by Kane, who on his full debut assisted the first for Leroy Sane before scoring the second himself.

Sane and Mathys Tel added two more late on, but Kane was already off the pitch by this point.

As debuts go; this one was unforgettable. Bayern have a new hero - and he's the England captain.

Yet the most frightening prospect to have emerged here in Bremen last night is that this wasn't even Kane in full flight. Far from it.

But, pertinently, this was Kane doing what Kane does. Winning football matches for his team.

He spent much of this encounter as an isolated figure as Bayern's lone attacker. The connection with his teammates needs work, his role in Thomas Tuchel's tactical set-up needs embedding.

He's still feeling his way into German football. That process will take time.

But imagine the devastation when he gets to grips with it all.

Kane won't be getting carried away, of course. He isn't the type. But - wow - what a start he has made.

Because football is a numbers game: points, goals, assists. Kane, more than any other footballer, lives by those rules. He's already on the scoreboard.

With a designer wash bag in hand and wireless earphones plugged in, Kane cut a picture of total concentration as he emerged from Bayern's team bus around 90 minutes ahead of kick-off.

Tunnel vision. It's a look Tottenham and England have grown accustomed to over the years; one that Bayern can't wait to get to know.

But even as he prepared for one of the biggest nights of his career, surely even Kane couldn't have scripted what was to follow.

There were reminders of home on this memorable night. When the unmistakable opening piano strokes of Three Lions blared out of the PA system here at the Weser Stadion as Kane warmed up, a wry smile adorned the striker's face.

The lyrics were in German, but they resonated with Kane. Who knows, it may have helped to ease any nerves as he prepared for the unknown.
