00:00 Babies on babies on babies.
00:04 OMG! Are these kids the cutest little urchins or what?
00:08 On these ancient temple grounds of Sri Lanka,
00:12 this troop of tufted grey langur monkeys has given birth to a baby boom of sorts.
00:16 And it's all thanks to one lucky guy, Pammu.
00:20 The group's lone alpha male, 8-year-old Pammu, is solely responsible for all these little ones.
00:27 And judging by how many there are, it's clear he put in the work.
00:31 Well, sort of. You see, their family has its own way of doing things.
00:35 Pammu's baby mama's tend to the needs of their babies, while he just kinda hangs out.
00:41 He doesn't really care to be too involved with child-rearing.
00:45 Actually, to be quite honest, he doesn't seem to care at all.
00:49 His main role in the family dynamic is to spread his seed among the nine females in his harem.
00:56 Tufted grey langurs are pretty big on sitting around doing nothing.
01:04 They spend roughly 80% of their time on the ground.
01:07 Okay, so being king looks easy, but when those tummies start rumbling, Pammu's got plenty of mouths to feed.
01:16 These guys love fruit, but it can be hard to come by, especially as the dry season sets in.
01:22 The pressure's on, but that happens to be when this papa's skills come into play.
01:27 He's found a fig tree, and just in time, with the last of the fruits nice and ripe.
01:33 While it's slow-hanging, this fruit isn't exactly ripe for the taking.
01:37 A troop of toque macaques got here first, and they haven't got their fill of figs, ya dig?
01:43 This is where a father's wisdom kicks in.
01:49 A life of scuffling has taught Pammu patience is a virtue.
01:53 So he holds his troops back, and they wait for their table to be called.
01:57 Whoop, there it is! The macaques have gassed up and are on their way.
02:08 And with that, Pammu guides his troop up that big fig tree.
02:14 When he needs to be, Pammu can be very fast and agile.
02:19 [Pammu's
02:24 hunger well-satiated, the group goes into digestion mode.
02:28 More lazing around.
02:30 But unbeknownst to them, a threat lurks between the leaves nearby.
02:34 A small gang of bachelors, and they're coming for Pammu's throne.
02:39 If they attack and overthrow Pammu, they'll kill all his babies.
02:44 And fate aside clears the path for one of them to be the new alpha and father his own young.
02:50 Mmm, yeah, Pammu's not down for that. Not down at all.
02:55 But it's three against one. The odds are well stacked against him.
03:00 He is bigger, older, and more skilled than these challengers.
03:05 And with his family's lives on the line, he'll take those odds.
03:11 Pammu launches into battle. As he fights courageously, his females grab their babies and scatter off.
03:18 The mums are desperate to get their offspring out of harm's way.
03:22 In the chaos, the youngest toddler of the troop becomes separated from his mother,
03:26 but an older sister comes to his rescue.
03:29 With attackers on the rampage, her instinct is to get him to safety.
03:33 Meanwhile, the testosterone-fueled tussle rages on.
03:39 Pammu's going all out to protect his bloodline.
03:42 And with one final desperate charge, he forces his rivals out.
03:46 Yeah, you better run!
03:49 The king has kept his kingdom intact, and as peace sets back in, his family's baby boom is set to thrive.
03:57 As a father, he may not be the type to give his kids piggybacks or play catch.
04:03 But when they need a fruit provider or a fearless protector, Pammu here pulls out all the stops.
04:09 So to all the dads out there showing up for their kids, mad props, pops. Mad props.
