Immortal Land Cruiser 70 Series Redesigned, New Toyota Land Cruiser 70 SERIES 2024

This is the fourth facelift of the classic 70 Series making its return to Japan alongside the newer 250 and 300 Series.

During the launch of the all-new Land Cruiser 250 Series, Toyota made a surprise new model announcement. We're talking about a significantly upgraded version of the Immortal Land Cruiser 70 Series with a tastefully redesigned exterior, additional tech and safety features, and the option of a new four-cylinder turbodiesel to be offered alongside the good old V8.

The 2024 update is the fourth facelift of the Land Cruiser 70 Series, first introduced in 1984 and replacing the older 40 Series. Despite new Land Cruiser generations emerging throughout the year, Toyota remains up to date with frequent updates as it continues to offer the tried-and-tested 70 Series in some markets around the world, including Australia and South Africa. The updated model will also return to its main market in Japan after it goes out of sale in 2015 as it doesn't comply with safety regulations.

The 2024 Land Cruiser 70 Series gets a new face, with round LED headlights embedded in the honeycomb grille and protruding turn signals that echo the original's design. The new bumper has cleaner lines but retains the unpainted plastic look that goes with the fender extensions. In profile, the new front fenders look more like the original 70 Series from 1984 than the previous facelift. At the rear, Toyota blocked out the original taillights with body-colored panels and used bumper-mounted units instead.

Inside, the new instrument cluster features a 4.2-inch display with retro graphics, and the center console has been slightly revised. In Australia, all classes have a standard 6.7-inch touchscreen display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for infotainment.

Big changes are hidden under the hood with the option of a new 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel (1GD-FTV) producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (368.9 lb-ft) of torque. 250 Series. The automaker claims that the updated drivetrain combines improved fuel efficiency with reliability, low noise and great off-road performance. The mill is paired with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels via the 4WD system.

The good old 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel with 202 hp (151 kW/205 PS) and 430 Nm (317.2 lb-ft) of torque remains available for all body styles specially paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Comparing the two drivetrain options, the larger V8 produces 1 hp more than the newer four-cylinder engine but has 70 Nm (51.6 lb-ft) less power.
