00:03 Lions roar, one, to communicate with their pride mates.
00:15 So they may be figuring out who is where.
00:18 And another reason is to let other lions know
00:22 that this territory is occupied.
00:26 The cubs start to vocalize from birth.
00:28 And some you hear as they're being born, actually
00:31 vocalizing.
00:32 But those vocalizations don't start
00:34 to become roars until they're closer to about a year old
00:36 or so.
00:37 And it seems that they mimic the adults.
00:39 But it's when they're closer to two years
00:41 that you really start hearing that powerful roar.
