Sadio Mane has been suspended for one game by Bayern Munich following an alleged incident with teammate Leroy Sane. But what do we know happened between the two?
Transcript
00:00 Reports in the German press today that Sadio Mane has been forced to apologise to his Bayern
00:07 Munich teammates after allegedly throwing a punch at Leroy Sane in the dressing room
00:12 immediately after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
00:15 Bloody hell.
00:16 Yes, hello there everybody, Adam Cleary 442 for you here and after months of reports during
00:22 the rounds that Sadio Mane just wasn't quite settling at Bayern Munich, now he's had to
00:26 issue an apology to his teammates because he allegedly went and smacked Leroy Sane in
00:31 the face and bust his lip.
00:32 It's a yikes from me.
00:34 What do we actually know about this story?
00:36 Because there's loads of stuff doing around in the press and on social media saying maybe
00:39 this and maybe that, but what are the actual facts of the matter?
00:41 What can be determined to be verifiably true?
00:44 Well the story goes that while this happened in the dressing room, it did start with something
00:47 that happened on the pitch.
00:49 Sane and/or Mane took issue with something that Mane and/or Sane had done on the pitch.
00:53 They got into an argument that this carried over into the dressing room.
00:56 And I've been back, I've looked at the footage and yes, there is an argument between the
01:00 two of them that takes place towards the end of that game.
01:02 It's the 83rd minute, they are 3-0 down, Leroy Sane has the ball in his own half and is under
01:07 pressure from three Manchester City players.
01:09 He has Gnabry and Mane ahead of him and plays a ball that neither goes to one nor the other,
01:13 is cut out by Nathan Ake and City begin the counter.
01:16 Now if we just take a look at that, it's pretty clear what's going on here.
01:18 Mane thinks there's a ball in behind City's defensive line to be played, he wants it in
01:22 there, but Sane either not seeing that pass or not thinking it's a good option and Mane
01:26 being the nearest unmarked player to him decides to just give him to feet.
01:30 And in the end, inevitably, neither of those things happen.
01:32 And this is where it starts because immediately after failing to get that ball back, Sane
01:36 goes to Mane and starts giving him both barrels.
01:39 Now you would have to ask the two of them precisely what this was about, but it seems
01:42 unlikely it was just over a missed-place pass, like they happen all the time.
01:46 And look, I get it's so much worse when they're happening when you're 3-0 down in the Champions
01:50 League, but at the same time, meh.
01:52 We're told this went on past the full-time whistle, into the dressing room and turned
01:55 physical when Mane took issue with something Sane said, specifically the way he was addressing
02:02 him.
02:03 Now Leroy Sane is 27 and Mane is 31 and by far the most experienced footballer, so a
02:07 lot of people are speculating this is some sort of respect-your-elders thing.
02:11 But the fact is there's been nothing reported at this stage as to precisely what it was,
02:15 so your guess is as good as anyone's here.
02:17 And the reports go on from there to say there was some kind of physical coming together,
02:20 they had to be separated by other players and in the process, Mane punched Sane in the
02:25 face, cutting his bottom lip.
02:27 And you'll be delighted to hear we've actually got some sort of video evidence for this,
02:30 because when the players returned to Germany and got off the plane, Leroy Sane can be seen
02:34 covering his bottom lip once he sees the cameras.
02:37 Now alright, that might seem like a little bit of a reach because he is just doing this,
02:41 but also he is doing it for the entire time he is within shot of the cameras and then
02:44 doesn't get on the team bus, gets picked up privately.
02:47 Now the news that is breaking but not yet verified as I'm recording this is that Mane
02:50 has in fact been asked to give an apology to all of his Bayern teammates for his conduct
02:54 and for the incident.
02:55 Don't know if that's 100% true at this stage, but it was what was heavily speculated
02:59 on last night and this morning, so it wouldn't surprise me at all.
03:01 Now of course, ex-managers turned pundits will tell you that things like this happen
03:05 absolutely all the time.
03:06 It does always seem to be the ex-managers who had infamously unhappy dressing rooms
03:10 during their career, but that's none of my business.
03:13 Now the real question of course is what internal measures are taken at Bayern beyond this apology.
03:18 You would imagine at the very least there is some sort of fine for this kind of misconduct,
03:21 but given that Mane has apparently not really settled at the club and his performances have
03:25 been quite hit and miss this season, you would wonder if internal conversations are whether
03:29 or not he's worth the hassle.
03:30 Add to that the fact they've now got a new manager, one who is going to have enough on
03:34 his plate next season without having to worry about any of his players twatting the other
03:38 in the bottom lip and it might be one year and done for Mane at Bayern Munich.
03:42 But anyway, you know what's far more interesting than any of that?
03:44 Your opinion on this matter.
03:45 So let us know whether it's a mountain out of a molehill or whether it's seriously terrible
03:50 and the worst thing you've ever heard in the comments below and of course don't forget
03:53 to like, share and subscribe.
03:54 Until next time though, I've of course been Adam Cleary, this is 442 and I'll see you
03:58 soon.
