00:00 Hey guys, it's Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies!
00:14 Today I'm gonna be making something that has been requested for such a long time,
00:17 a Castle Cake! I got a lot of requests for a Princess Peach Castle Cake,
00:22 I got a lot of requests for a Bowser Castle Cake, a Merlin Castle Cake,
00:27 a Dungeons & Dragons Castle Cake, so I thought, today I'm gonna make a basic
00:33 Castle Cake and then you can customize it to make it whatever magical themed,
00:37 mythical fanciness you would like!
00:40 The things you will need will be, 3 of these, these are paper towel cardboard tubes,
00:47 usually I just recycle these, but just hang on to them, because we're gonna be
00:50 using these to make our castle pillars, errr! Scissors, spatula, cake leveler,
00:57 I have a cardboard cake tray, this awesome thing that I got from Michaels,
01:03 it adds texture, so it adds wood texture and like old stone castle texture,
01:08 this was pretty cool and I thought I gotta play with that to make this castle cake, yeah!
01:13 A square cake pan, this is a 6 inch, and I've already pre-made 2 cakes, boop-boop!
01:19 And you can either do a pound cake recipe or a yellow cake, I chose to do a yellow
01:23 cake. Fresh strawberries and chocolate frosting, or you can use chocolate ganache,
01:29 whatever you like!
01:30 So the first thing you're gonna do is take your cake leveler, and, just gonna level
01:35 both the cakes so that they're the same height, back and forth, back and forth,
01:40 like you're a lumberjack, just sawing, saw-saw-saw-saw-saw!
01:43 Then you're gonna take off the tops of the cake, like this, the muffin tops!
01:47 These are so yummy, these are one of my favorite parts!
01:50 And, you can feed these to your awesome camera guy because he loves these!
01:55 Or share them with friends!
01:57 Now that you've got your cakes leveled, you're gonna take this cardboard,
02:04 place it down, you're gonna just take your first cake, I'm just gonna put it
02:08 right in the middle, OK.
02:09 Now you're gonna take chocolate frosting, or chocolate ganache, whatever you'd like,
02:15 and put a coat down.
02:18 Once you've frosted the top of your first cake, I'm just gonna take strawberries,
02:22 I just chopped them up so that they would lay flat.
02:25 I love doing this, I started putting fresh fruit in my cakes and I just love it!
02:29 Ohhhh! Chocolate strawberry filling, yummy-yummy-yummy-yummy!
02:34 Now we're gonna take the second cake, ooooh!
02:37 Put him right on top!
02:39 Now you're just gonna take your little mush-spatula, and you're gonna frost
02:44 all the edges.
02:45 Once you've got your cake all frosted on all sides and the top, we're gonna
02:50 stick it in the freezer for about 20 minutes to let it chill.
02:53 And just make sure that all the sides are smooth, it doesn't have to be perfect,
02:57 you can miss a few spots, that's OK, just make sure everything's very smooth,
03:01 because we're gonna put fondant on top of it.
03:04 When your cake is in the freezer, we are gonna be making the castle pillars,
03:08 so this is a good time to do this.
03:09 You're gonna need 3 of these, but I just did 1 just to show you guys how to do it.
03:13 This is a paper towel roll, so they're a good thing to hold onto to save, or,
03:17 I ripped out 2 right out of the middle.
03:19 I kind of had to wiggle it out of there, but I got it out!
03:21 So you're gonna need scissors, and what you're gonna do is you're just gonna
03:24 cut it right in half.
03:25 Boop!
03:26 Doesn't have to be perfect, and that is the perfect height.
03:33 But we want them to be a little bit smaller, so what you're gonna do is cut
03:37 right down the middle.
03:40 And then you're just gonna eyeball it, but I kind of put it together, meh!
03:45 I guess it's about an inch.
03:47 Then you're just gonna take a piece of tape, stick it there, and there you go!
03:52 Once you've made 5 of these, we are gonna roll out some gray fondant, like I've
03:57 got here, and just get a little rolling pin.
04:00 So to wrap this, you're gonna take this little guy, stick him down right here
04:07 at the end, and I like to cut the top, and the bottom, so it's a little flatter,
04:18 easier to work with.
04:19 Starting point, there we go!
04:27 And then you're just gonna pick up the fondant, pressing it against the pillar,
04:31 and roll, roll, roll, roll!
04:34 Oh I made a little sushi!
04:36 And then you connect the end and the back, just by pressing it together,
04:39 pinch, pinch, pinch!
04:40 Then to finish, your pillar, you're gonna take your stone print, and you're
04:44 gonna lay it down, there's a lot of different techniques to this, but this is
04:48 what I like the best.
04:49 And you're gonna start it at 1 end, and just stick your thumbs in, press down,
04:54 you can press down a little bit on the top too, just be gentle, but you can be
04:58 very firm, stick your finger in there, push, push!
05:02 And then roll it towards you, while pushing down, and just all the way down!
05:09 Ba-doom!
05:11 There we go!
05:12 That's how to add some texture on there!
05:14 Now that we've got our pillars done, we are gonna make the castle door!
05:18 You're gonna take a little bit of brown fondant, just lay it down, boop-boop-boop-boop-boop!
05:23 Taking a rolling pin, just rolling it out.
05:27 Now you're gonna take your wood imprint, you're just gonna place it on the top,
05:32 and just press down, now you're gonna peel it up, pew!
05:35 Oh look how cool that looks!
05:37 Now you're gonna take a circle cookie cutter, and I just press down on the top
05:41 of the circle.
05:44 Like so.
05:45 Now you take off the excess, then I'm gonna cut on the wood line to make the door.
05:51 Ta-da!
05:52 And that's how you get your little castle door!
05:55 Now we're gonna make the peaks of the tower, I've already made 1 here so you
05:59 can see what they look like, and they just sit right on top of our little pillar.
06:02 Eeeerrrr, look how cute that is!
06:05 This is chocolate flavored fondant, that I'm using, and it is yummy and it smells so good!
06:10 OK, so I'm just taking, this is dark chocolate fondant, I'm just gonna lay it down,
06:17 then roll it out.
06:18 And then the first thing I did to build these little peaks is take a teeny little
06:21 circle cookie cutter, little teeny one, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo!
06:27 Cut out a little circle, I'll put him right here, and then with this excess I'm just
06:33 rolling it, so it'll make a good shape and I just go pew-pew-pew!
06:39 Looks like a Hershey's kiss!
06:40 OK, then I'm gonna put it on top, this little circle.
06:45 And then for the last, final step, to make it look very smooth, I'm gonna cut a
06:50 straight edge, and another edge.
06:55 And then I'm just gonna wrap it all the way around, on the outside so that it's
07:00 really smooth and seamless.
07:02 On the back you'll have all the excess, like that.
07:05 Just gonna cut it off, don't need it!
07:09 Just pinch it together, pinch-pinch-pinch!
07:15 Now we're gonna make these little windows, they go on all of these pillars,
07:20 isn't that so cute?
07:21 I just left a strip that we cut earlier, and again just press down with the top
07:26 of the cookie cutter.
07:27 And then cut straight, and cut across.
07:30 Do-do-do-do!
07:31 Easy-peasy!
07:32 And you're just gonna make 7 of these.
07:34 I just took the cake out of the freezer, and now you're gonna take this big chunk
07:38 of gray fondant, and put it on top of the wax paper, and we're gonna roll it out
07:43 and then put it on top of the cake.
07:45 Mmmmm!
07:46 Mmmmmmm!
07:47 Once you got your fondant rolled out, you're gonna take this big plastic rolling
07:52 pin, I like these for working with fondant, and you're just gonna lightly roll it,
07:57 just like we did the pillars.
07:58 Just roll, roll, roll, roll, roll!
08:01 To pick up the fondant, bring it over, and gently roll it on top.
08:15 Now what you're gonna do is gently press the fondant against the cake, the frosting
08:20 will act like glue so it will stick to the fondant, and then you're gonna cut off
08:23 the excess fondant at the bottom of the cake.
08:26 Now that we've got the fondant on top of the cake, ba-da!
08:29 Like that, you're gonna take your stone mold, and I'm gonna press firmly, brrr,
08:35 it right into the fondant.
08:37 I just finished the stone texture, I just put it on all of the sides, I'm gonna
08:41 leave the top nice and smooth, and now I'm gonna take green vanilla buttercream
08:46 frosting, and I'm just gonna paint the cake tray so it looks like grass.
08:51 Just finished all of the grass, and now we are gonna assemble all of our castle
08:55 pieces together and place them.
08:58 And the reason I did the grass is because this frosting is really sticky, so when
09:02 you place a column down, errr, it will stick really, really easy.
09:07 And it looks pretty cool!
09:09 Ta-da!
09:10 Here is our castle cake, it's all done!
09:29 These look so cool!
09:30 We've got our pillars, all 5 of them, this one's a little bit shorter up here,
09:35 I love the little detail work, I added the little handles and stuff, I hope
09:39 you guys like it.
09:40 And, I've decided that this cake is gonna be a Princess Peach Castle Cake,
09:44 I got my little Princess Peach figurines, and this is how you can make your
09:48 cake look like anything, you can throw a dragon on it, you can throw a red
09:51 wedding on it!
09:52 That's a Game of Thrones joke!
09:55 OK, so we, look we got a little Peach up here, and maybe she's with Mario,
09:59 and he's like woo-hoo!
10:01 Oh yeah!
10:02 And then Bowser's down here like, aww dang it!
10:05 I'm not in Mario Day!
10:07 Hey, Peach, you should like totally come down here and I won't capture you,
10:10 I promise!
10:11 OK, like that sounds safe, excuse me Mario!
10:14 Oh no!
10:15 I got captured again!
10:16 I hope you guys liked the episode, thanks for watching, if you have any other
10:24 ideas for any other Nerdy Nummies, please let me know, leave me a comment
10:28 down below and I will do my best to make it happen.
10:30 OK, thanks you guys, bye-bye!
10:33 [Outro Music]
10:42 OK, how does he…
10:44 It's-a me!
10:45 It's-a me, Mario!
10:47 It's-a me, Mario!
10:49 [Laughs]
