00:00 How exciting I got to decorate my three M&M cakes with my M&M stencil.
00:04 You gotta watch the rest of the video to see the 2006 Easy Bake Oven and how I get to this
00:09 point.
00:11 You are now watching a Lucky Penny Shop product feature.
00:14 Hey it's Lucky Penny Shop and we're on the next oven in our Easy Bake Oven series.
00:18 This is the 2006 Easy Bake Oven and as you can see it's a completely different design
00:24 than the ovens we've seen in the past.
00:26 No light bulb needed, magical pan grabber with color changing heat sensor, ages 8 plus.
00:33 Here's the side of the box, one panel and there's a special burner on top where you
00:37 can melt things.
00:39 And then here's that magical pan grabber with color changing heat sensor.
00:43 I think they show it better here in regards to, yeah, you can put a little bowl on there
00:47 to melt chocolate and other toppings.
00:50 And then the back of the box, I like to show you the whole box so you kind of get a sense
00:53 of what it's like and the artwork.
00:55 Really pretty colors on this with the pinks, the purples and the yellows.
00:58 But I think next we need to get in here, check it out and take a look at the oven.
01:02 Alright, here we go.
01:03 I'm excited to show you this 2006 oven.
01:05 Right now the light is on.
01:07 If you look right here by the 1232, I can unplug it and that light goes off.
01:12 That's telling you that the oven is on and it's a completely different look than previous
01:16 ovens here.
01:17 Look at it from the side.
01:18 Now the pan doesn't actually slide all the way through like all the other ovens.
01:22 It really just sits in the oven and this special pan grabber pulls it out.
01:27 And this is the little temperature thing they were talking about.
01:29 Now we saw this on the front of the real meal oven.
01:32 It's very similar to that.
01:33 So when it's cold, it's blue like this.
01:35 But when it's hot, it should change color.
01:37 So hopefully we can show that.
01:39 And there's actually a pan pusher.
01:40 So there's a pan pusher and a pan grabber.
01:43 This is actually going to push the pan in and this is going to take it out.
01:46 And this neat little measuring spoon system here.
01:49 It's got four different measurements on it.
01:51 That's kind of nice.
01:52 And let's kind of take a closer look at the top of the oven there.
01:55 That is the warming section.
01:57 See so this is going to get hot up here.
02:00 And then there's the little bowl that sits there and it fits right on.
02:03 See, nice and snug.
02:04 So that's where you're going to melt things.
02:06 It's a really neat oven.
02:07 And then there's the Easy Bake logo.
02:10 You get a couple pans and an instruction booklet.
02:13 So when I come back, we're going to go into actually a little bit more info about the
02:17 oven and using the light bulb baking book and we'll go into what recipe I'm going to
02:21 do with this one.
02:22 All right, so that's still heating up in the background.
02:24 Here's the book.
02:26 We've shown this to you before.
02:27 It's the Light Bulb Baking, a History of the Easy Bake Oven.
02:30 And here's the section on the recall.
02:33 Now it says in here this was not a mandatory recall.
02:36 This was voluntary, meaning you didn't have to send it in or you didn't have to get a
02:40 replacement but they created this little cover piece.
02:43 And this cover piece would have went over this because this is where kids were sticking
02:48 their hands in there.
02:49 And then it said the recall affected all those ovens but it left the 25 million side entry,
02:56 the other ovens, the light bulb models, and circulation unaffected.
02:58 So it was really just this oven that had the issue.
03:02 It was voluntary.
03:03 And then they had an adapter piece that could correct it right away.
03:05 So let's take a look at the recipe next.
03:07 All right, so I am going to do the Easy Bake M&M's Cakes Bake Set.
03:11 And it comes with this little cover.
03:14 It looks like you put it over your cake so you can get that nice M. And then this spatula
03:18 with an M, M&M on top, and then the spoon with an M&M on top.
03:22 So it's kind of a neat little kit.
03:24 And it is older.
03:25 Yeah, a lot of people are worried that I shouldn't be using expired mixes.
03:28 Well, a lot of times I substitute the mixes with new mixes, right?
03:32 So you don't have to worry about that.
03:34 But it's cool to get the set and the extra pieces so you can make these with any mix
03:38 you want, really.
03:39 Let's get it out of the box.
03:41 Let's see.
03:45 I think it's cool.
03:46 I think a lot of people like to see this kind of stuff.
03:49 Well, I think you do.
03:50 Don't you like to see it?
03:51 Look, see?
03:52 Where else are you going to see that?
03:56 There's the marshmallow powder candy.
03:58 This looks like the powder to make the M's and then the E's is what I want to look at.
04:03 So I get all the packets.
04:04 We'll go over that later.
04:05 I wanted to see this.
04:08 My M&M guys.
04:13 And you can still find these sets and all different kinds of sets on eBay.
04:16 See, that's cool.
04:18 You might be able to use that for other stuff, other decorating.
04:21 But you put your M over the cake and decorate it.
04:23 Let's get this red M&M spatula out.
04:29 That's a neat one.
04:30 Look at that.
04:31 And the blue M&M spoon.
04:32 He's got a little rolling pin in his hand.
04:36 Don't they look happy?
04:37 Well, I hope I'm happy too as I'm making these cakes.
04:40 So what I need to do next is kind of read over, get all the stuff I need.
04:44 Sometimes I've got to add flour.
04:45 And I'll definitely need water.
04:47 And we'll get started.
04:48 Okay, here we go.
04:49 All set to get started.
04:50 Now I washed the three pieces from the M&M set.
04:53 I won't need this stencil right away, so I'll move that off to the side.
04:57 And basically I need to butter my three pans.
05:00 So I will do that first because that's the first step in the process.
05:04 Now it said in the instructions that you cannot use the real meal pans in these because those
05:10 are bigger.
05:11 So those pans will not work in this oven.
05:14 All right.
05:15 I don't think they'll work in other ovens.
05:17 Maybe one day we'll do like a test to see which pans work best in which ovens.
05:23 And then I thought, well, I've got to make three cakes, right?
05:27 So why not just mix all three at one time?
05:29 That's why I get a consistent batter.
05:31 Instead of trying to mix three separate times, I'm just going to do all three in this larger
05:37 bowl.
05:38 That's why hopefully they all bake the same.
05:41 I'm a little concerned because the pan grabber, there's only so much height in there to grab
05:45 the cake out.
05:46 So what if it really fluffs up big?
05:48 I can see how things might get smushed in that.
05:53 So we're going to see.
05:54 I don't want smushed cakes.
05:57 All right.
05:59 So let's get started here.
06:02 I've got my three mixes.
06:04 Now the baking part is a little different than the original.
06:09 The original, here's the instructions.
06:10 It says on here that I need to follow, if I'm using refill mixes, it says any Easy-Bake
06:16 Mix will work, but I have to follow the baking part in this booklet.
06:20 So that's what I'm going to do.
06:21 So if you see some discrepancy there, it's because I'm following a different book.
06:26 Okay, so all three.
06:28 Here we go.
06:31 So one packet makes one cake, and then you need three teaspoons of water for each.
06:42 There's one.
06:49 Two.
06:53 And number three.
07:00 Okay.
07:04 Let's use my M&M guy.
07:05 That one's pretty cool.
07:08 That's why I got the kid.
07:10 So three teaspoons of water and mix with a spoon.
07:13 Okay.
07:14 So one, two, three, four.
07:19 I'm going to count out loud.
07:25 Five, six, seven, eight, and nine.
07:32 There we go.
07:33 And then mix.
07:34 I'm going to use my spatula.
07:36 They give you this nice heavy-duty spatula.
07:43 Okay, so the oven's been preheating.
07:50 The light's on in the back.
07:51 And you see these chocolate chips here?
07:53 I was going to actually put that on the warming part because I just want to do a test.
07:57 I don't need chocolate chips in this recipe, but I want to test it on the top and see how
08:02 they melt.
08:03 Right?
08:04 Are you curious about that as I am?
08:09 And thanks for all the support in the comments, everybody, following along with this series.
08:13 Going all the way back to the earliest oven.
08:15 We're still missing that 1970 oven.
08:18 No reports of that one actually showing up yet.
08:21 Haven't seen one.
08:22 I've seen two on eBay, but just the ovens and one was broken.
08:26 So I think we're good.
08:31 Mix until smooth.
08:32 Does that look smooth?
08:33 Yes.
08:34 Okay, then it says pour batter into pan and spread evenly.
08:38 All right.
08:39 So I have three pans.
08:40 So I got to make sure I do this right.
08:43 One, two, three.
08:44 Let me just put some in each, then I'll see where we're at.
08:49 Kind of balance it out.
08:52 Two and three.
08:59 How's that look?
09:05 A little bit more in this one.
09:14 I'll just put a little bit in each and then we'll tap them down and see if we're good.
09:19 I got to get a better scraper.
09:20 This thing doesn't scrape too good.
09:23 Okay.
09:24 Maybe I can just wiggle it.
09:31 Nope.
09:33 Okay, there's one.
09:39 Now, unfortunately, of course, I can only bake one at a time.
09:48 So I'm going to have to do a lot of stopping and going until we get through all three of
09:53 these.
09:56 There's two.
10:04 Okay.
10:13 I think I'm pretty good here.
10:14 I got a low spot on this one.
10:26 All right.
10:27 I think I'm going to clean this up a little bit more, level them off.
10:30 But next time you'll see me, I'm going to put the first one in the oven.
10:33 All right.
10:34 So here is the first pan going in.
10:36 Let me just angle that a little bit.
10:39 And then remember now, the pan pusher and the pan grabber are two different things.
10:43 I'm going to start my timer off on the side here.
10:46 And the instructions said 15 minutes, but the Easy Bake Oven Book said 12 minutes for
10:51 a cake.
10:52 So now I'll just push it in.
10:57 The door closed.
10:59 So we're going to check back.
11:00 I can't see inside like the other ovens from the side.
11:02 So we're just going to check back in a little bit, and we'll see when it's done.
11:05 All right.
11:06 I did promise you to check out the melter on top.
11:08 So I'm going to put some in here.
11:11 And we're about three minutes in.
11:12 So I'll know when this melts, and we'll check back.
11:16 So it gives us something to check on and see how this actually works.
11:18 So I'll be back.
11:20 All right.
11:21 So it's been about two minutes.
11:22 I just want to lift the lid and see if there's any kind of melting going on.
11:27 A little bit, as you can see there.
11:30 Oh, yeah.
11:33 All right.
11:36 So I'll just keep checking back throughout this first baking.
11:39 All right.
11:40 We are real close here.
11:41 There's actually like 10 to 12 seconds left.
11:46 So pretty good, actually, the melting on this.
11:49 I bet you if I went the full 12 minutes, it would have all melted down.
11:56 Oops.
11:57 Timer's off.
11:58 All right.
11:59 So I need to get that first cake out of the oven.
12:04 Here we go.
12:09 I'll just do it right here, right now.
12:13 This one's going to be completely different than anyone I've done in the past.
12:16 So what's going to happen here, I should be able to push this in.
12:19 It should grab it and then come back out with the pan inside of it.
12:26 Aha.
12:30 Worked like a charm.
12:31 Look at that.
12:33 See?
12:34 And now that heat sensor has changed slightly.
12:37 Look at it.
12:38 So now we know it is too hot.
12:41 So I can slide the other one in.
12:43 Let me do that while that one cools.
12:51 Okay.
12:58 And now that thing really did change.
13:01 I'll start my timer again.
13:03 And then to get the pan out again, I'm going to pull this back, which opens that little
13:08 door there, and I can slide it out onto something.
13:11 So I'll be back.
13:12 Well, I have less than a minute.
13:14 The chocolate on the top is really nice.
13:15 I can actually show you down here.
13:20 I would say it is pretty much melted.
13:22 There is some lumps you see, but I haven't mixed it since the last time.
13:25 So it works great.
13:26 And, you know, it's just chocolate and it's tasty.
13:32 So let me come back up here because this one is ready to come out.
13:38 And this one is set.
13:39 So you just pull this back and then slide out your pan.
13:43 So there is my first cake.
13:46 And then the timer is going to go off in a second here.
13:50 Actually ten seconds.
13:52 So let's just take a quick look.
13:55 It's cooled down.
13:57 Didn't rise that great, but we can still use it.
14:00 In one second.
14:01 There you go.
14:02 So let's get that second one out.
14:04 Remember, I'm just going to push it in.
14:06 It should grab it.
14:07 There is some instruction inside.
14:09 If it doesn't grab it, because it might not grab it every time, I guess.
14:14 There you go.
14:15 That one puffed up much better.
14:16 I don't know if you can see the puffiness on that one.
14:20 Can you see it in there?
14:21 That one's taller.
14:22 All right.
14:24 So cake number three needs to go in.
14:27 I think I'll come back before cake number three is done.
14:30 Let's start the frosting on some of these.
14:32 So let me do that next.
14:33 All right.
14:34 So time to start my first frosting.
14:36 I'm going to do green.
14:39 So here we go.
14:42 Time for the green.
14:43 It's going to be cool color.
14:45 Oh, it's like a mint green.
14:49 And it said for the frosting, three quarters of a teaspoon of warm water.
14:59 So I got my little teaspoon measure here.
15:04 I've got to transfer my water to something easier to use.
15:09 There's one, two, and three.
15:16 Okay.
15:17 And I've been using my M&M tool for this.
15:22 I'm going to keep using my M&M tool.
15:34 Now my second cake came out a little fluffier than the first cake.
15:41 Not sure why.
15:43 Something I have to live with now.
15:46 But that's okay.
15:51 I'm using the original mixes, so that probably has a lot to do with my cake consistency.
15:56 I could have brought in some new cake mixes, but I just didn't want to.
16:06 We'll see the end result, right?
16:07 If I can have a nice M on my green cake, I'll be happy with that.
16:13 Frosting is probably one of the harder things for me.
16:15 I don't know why.
16:16 I seem to rush the frosting part.
16:22 I'm just pushing all the little harder frosting nuggets down so we can get a smoother frosting
16:28 here.
16:31 That looks pretty good.
16:39 So I have nine minutes on that last cake.
16:42 And by then I should have my second cake ready to frost, and then we'll have three M&Ms.
16:48 Okay, that looks good.
16:54 I need to get a different spatula.
16:56 I don't think I'm going to frost with that, so I'll be right back.
16:58 Okay, changed my mind.
16:59 I thought, you know what?
17:00 That might work pretty good.
17:01 So let me get this cake out.
17:04 Let me see if it just pulls out.
17:06 Ooh, look at that cake.
17:08 It's like a rock cake.
17:09 Oh, no.
17:10 We'll see.
17:12 Maybe 12 minutes is too long in this oven.
17:14 We don't know.
17:17 Let's just get this thing frosted.
17:20 It was like a cake cookie.
17:24 Ooh, pretty color.
17:29 So I'll fill in the voids.
17:30 You'll never know.
17:33 Don't tell anybody.
17:41 Okay, at least I can frost the top nice and fill it in.
17:46 See?
17:47 Maybe I can get a little on the edges.
17:57 I could just pick it up, I guess.
18:03 How many cakes you could just pick up?
18:05 Well, that makes it easier.
18:12 My stomach is growling or something.
18:13 I think I'm getting hungry.
18:17 I might have to sneak some from the top.
18:19 I did stuff it a lot.
18:27 Let's touch it now.
18:35 I probably need to let this set just a little before I can put my M on the top.
18:40 Don't you think the frosting needs to just get a little coating on it, maybe?
18:54 Well, there is my first cake.
19:05 I tried to push it over.
19:08 There we go.
19:09 Okay, I think I'm happy with that.
19:13 Let me just check to see how my M would...
19:15 Ooh, my M's going to fit right over it.
19:17 All right.
19:18 So when I come back, I have...
19:19 Let's see.
19:22 We have four minutes on the last cake.
19:27 So let me take out the other cake, see if that one's cooled down.
19:30 Maybe we can frost that one.
19:32 Be right back.
19:33 All right, here we go.
19:34 So the second cake is ready.
19:36 I'll just move that over here.
19:40 And it originally rose, but it seemed to kind of take a new shape, a new mind of its own
19:44 here.
19:45 Let's see if it comes out as easy as the other one.
19:47 There you go.
19:50 I'm okay with it.
19:51 I just got to move on through here now.
19:54 So there's about 28 seconds, actually.
19:57 Oh, well, the next color I'm going to do is orange.
19:59 Let me at least get that started before my timer goes off here.
20:05 Orange.
20:07 Okay.
20:10 And then three quarters of a teaspoon.
20:14 I'm not sure I'm going to make it.
20:21 Okay, I have to multitask here.
20:31 We'll get that one out.
20:38 So far, this one's been working pretty smooth.
20:40 Here, let's see if I can get it out right now.
20:44 Okay, see, it's nice and puffy there, but I think it just relaxes after time.
20:50 All right, so let's get back to this.
20:53 Did I do three?
20:58 See, I lost count.
20:59 I don't remember.
21:00 Wow, it almost matches the bowl.
21:16 Now, the bowl is red.
21:17 The frosting is orange.
21:18 They're a very close color.
21:20 A lot of, well, actually, video cameras in general treat colors differently sometimes.
21:25 Now, this camera has a filter on it, a color filter, so sometimes it misrepresents certain
21:32 colors.
21:33 So, when I say it's red or orange, people in the comments say, "No, that's the other
21:37 color," but that just happens.
21:45 Now, this is really orange.
21:52 Maybe when I move this to that, you'll see the difference.
21:55 Okay, cake number two.
21:58 What was that little black thing?
22:01 That little piece of cake maybe on my finger?
22:04 Okay, here we go.
22:06 I know, not the prettiest looking cakes, but we're going to go for it anyway.
22:13 The best part is I can just pick them up like little frisbees.
22:23 This one is a little softer though.
22:39 Okay, top, it's okay.
22:53 Do we have any professional cake decorators out there?
22:57 I'm sure you're critiquing my work.
23:01 But, of course, we all know I'm doing this for fun and demonstration.
23:14 More about the ovens, really, and the cool sets than about my cake decorating technique.
23:21 There are some really good channels on YouTube where people do some amazing work.
23:26 All right, I think I've got most of that.
23:39 I might tidy up a little bit when I'm done here, but I think we all get the idea.
23:50 Okay, yeah, I might clean up my plate a little.
23:55 I like to do a little better presentation.
23:57 So, we'll come back now and when this one cools, this third one, and we'll do the third
24:01 one.
24:02 All right, here we go, the number three hockey puck, I mean cake.
24:07 Just having fun, just having fun.
24:09 All right, blue frosting.
24:11 Interesting.
24:12 Green plate, green frosting, orange plate, orange frosting.
24:16 Blue frosting, blue plate.
24:19 Ooh, look at that color.
24:26 Let's see what happens now when we add water to the blue.
24:32 So three quarters, here we go.
24:35 One, two, three.
24:40 There we go.
24:47 So this is the frosting for, as I said, hockey puck number three.
24:51 If you can't laugh at yourself sometimes and the things you do, then be prepared, especially
24:59 on YouTube when people laugh at you.
25:02 Gotta be okay with it.
25:06 And by the way, thanks for all the great comments out there.
25:18 I'm holding it this way because he tends to bend at the top too much.
25:22 Is it just me or is that blue M&M moving around?
25:30 Now, this one seems even, it seems like each frosting has had a different consistency,
25:43 but I've been trying to be consistent with the water.
25:49 This one seems the thickest.
25:50 I'm waiting for it to all like become something.
25:55 Oh, there we go.
25:56 Get this off here, here.
26:01 Okay.
26:05 Not the easiest spatula to work with.
26:08 A lot of people do say, "You don't know how to use a spatula," or "You don't know how
26:11 to use this."
26:12 Well, they're miniature tools.
26:14 It's not like using a big one or one that comes in a big kitchen.
26:19 Everything's so small.
26:20 Have you ever watched Cutthroat Kitchen?
26:23 Have you seen that show?
26:26 When he brings out the miniature kitchen set, I'm ready to jump into that.
26:31 That is the coolest little kitchen set.
26:34 The pots are small pots.
26:36 I think I can handle that.
26:40 But even the professional chefs, they struggle with that because it's hard when you're using
26:43 smaller than normal tools.
26:46 Okay, enough of that.
26:49 Let's get to decorating.
26:51 Here we go.
26:55 I think I can pick this one up too.
26:56 That does help.
26:57 Wouldn't it be nice if you could do that with all your cakes, just pick them up and decorate
27:00 them?
27:01 I know they use cake stands when decorating.
27:04 It spins it and that makes it easier too, doesn't it?
27:17 Okay.
27:19 Who's still watching out there?
27:21 Who's stuck through the whole video?
27:22 And thanks to everybody who does stick through these videos.
27:24 That's really appreciated.
27:27 It helps the channel when you watch the whole video.
27:28 It really does.
27:30 That means you like what you're seeing.
27:44 And that's another reason why we don't cut the scenes on the videos.
27:57 You ever watch perfectionist cake decorators?
28:02 You see this come in one second and then all of a sudden it's smoothing out this beautiful
28:05 cake.
28:06 It's because it's all done off camera.
28:07 So you can spend more time and not have the stress of the camera.
28:12 Having the camera on you makes it more stressful.
28:18 So yeah, I guess I do stress out just a little.
28:22 It's more because I want the set to turn out.
28:27 Okay, how's this?
28:29 This is the hardest one to spread.
28:32 It's really giving me trouble.
28:35 Weisenheimer.
28:36 Okay.
28:37 Look at my fingers.
28:44 It's the stickiest.
28:45 I will say though, I'm probably in about 90 degrees right now.
28:49 And I'm very hot and sweaty.
28:52 So I am going to now bring in the three, put my M's on, maybe clean this one up a little
28:58 bit.
28:59 Be right back.
29:00 All right, there you go.
29:01 There are my M&M&M's that were baked in a 2006 Easy Bake Oven.
29:06 That was what we were really here for, was to check out that oven and how it worked.
29:10 I think from about 20 feet away, 25 feet away, they look spectacular.
29:16 In my mind anyway, they look great.
29:18 So I hope you enjoyed the video.
29:19 I think overall when I do these older kits like this, it's not as much, you know, perfection.
29:25 It's more just having fun.
29:27 And I think I did have fun.
29:28 I did.
29:29 So thanks for watching.
29:30 Really appreciate it.
29:31 If you can, you know, share the video, subscribe if you're not a subscriber.
29:35 Give us a thumbs up.
29:37 We really do appreciate it.
29:38 And hope you enjoyed the series.
29:39 Now we're moving up here.
29:42 We're 2006.
29:43 So we have about four more ovens before we finish and then move on to other ovens that
29:47 we have.
29:48 So hope you enjoyed it.
