00:00 Coffee break with me.
00:07 Woo!
00:08 Hi beauties.
00:09 So, I don't remember when, maybe last week, some of you, or one of you left me a comment
00:15 and said, "Hey, you know, I really like makeup.
00:19 I didn't use makeup until my 20s and now I'm older.
00:24 I'm barely getting into it and I have no idea what I'm doing.
00:27 Like, what do I need to purchase?
00:28 Like, okay, I'll buy some shimmer, like, hooker glitter.
00:31 Where do I put it?"
00:32 So, we kind of had a conversation back and forth and I said, "You know what?
00:35 I really like your input.
00:37 Let me know what you're really interested in.
00:39 Do you want high-end products, drugstore products?
00:41 Like, what's going on?"
00:42 She's like, "Well, just the basics.
00:44 Drugstore or high-end doesn't matter.
00:48 It's just basically, what do I really need?"
00:51 And so that got me thinking and I had like an inspirational moment and I said, "Yeah,
00:55 that's true.
00:56 I know you are getting into makeup, but what do you actually need?
00:58 If you were starting a makeup collection, what do you absolutely need to have in your
01:03 collection?"
01:04 So, what I did is I basically did my face and I'm going to talk to you about products
01:10 that I believe you need in your collection.
01:12 If you like makeup, if you're just getting started, this makeup is not necessarily for
01:18 someone that's like 13 or 14 just getting into makeup.
01:22 This is more of not older woman, but obviously someone that likes makeup, wants to buy makeup,
01:30 wants to start a collection, and wants to look presentable, you know?
01:34 Attractive, pretty.
01:36 And then with some options of what to do or customize with the stuff that I'm recommending
01:42 you add to your collection.
01:43 What I did is I gathered some items.
01:45 Most of them, probably like 99% of them were drugstore and the only reason I did it that
01:49 way is so that this is a budget-friendly makeup kit, but obviously it can be translated into
01:56 high-end products.
01:58 All of these items that I'm going to share, I have my favorite in high-end version that
02:04 I could totally tell you about, or if you leave me a question in the comment section,
02:07 I would love to help.
02:08 You guys know that I'm really friendly with my comments.
02:10 I try to get back to you within like two or three days, and I'd love to help.
02:15 So if you need tips, questions, advice, whatever, let me know in the comment section.
02:19 So let's go ahead and get started.
02:20 If we were going to start in order, like how we do our face, the very first thing that
02:24 goes on our face is primer.
02:26 And one of you guys left me a comment that made me laugh so much.
02:29 You said, "It's a crime not to prime," and I totally agree, because the primer is basically
02:34 the foundation of your face.
02:36 So if you do not take the time to prime your face, then everything else that you put on
02:47 top is not going to last.
02:49 So you're going to think you don't apply makeup well, or that the products suck, or that you
02:57 automatically think the wrong thing.
02:58 But if you don't prime, it's not going to make your makeup last or make your makeup
03:01 show up the way it should look.
03:02 So always take your time to prime.
03:04 I personally, and I hate to admit this, I have never tried a drugstore primer that is
03:10 an actual makeup primer.
03:13 The only drugstore primer that I've used, which is not a primer at all, is the L'Oreal
03:18 Provitalift.
03:19 This is a moisturizer that has SPF and it's designed to blur the fine lines.
03:26 So if you're looking for a primer to make your makeup last or fill your pores, this
03:30 is not the one.
03:32 This just makes your face look a lot more smooth and protects it against sun protection.
03:38 My number one recommendation for a primer is Benefit's Porefessional.
03:44 I know I rave about the Too Faced Prime and Poreless.
03:48 That's just my personal favorite.
03:50 But for the general people, whoever wants to get their very first primer that'll probably
03:55 work on your skin, greasy or not, oily or not, dry or not, it's probably the Porefessional.
04:00 This fills your pores, it makes your makeup last a really long time, it gives you a beautiful,
04:06 soft, silky finish on your face, it's amazing, it doesn't smell, it doesn't clog your pores,
04:11 it's really great.
04:12 This is what I'm actually wearing today.
04:15 So you do your foundation, and by foundation I mean like a home foundation, not a liquid
04:20 foundation.
04:21 So you put your base on your face, which is your primer.
04:24 After that you want to follow with a foundation.
04:27 You could use a powder foundation, you could use a liquid foundation, you could use a stick
04:30 foundation.
04:32 If you're barely getting into makeup, I think the most forgiving type of foundation is like
04:37 a gel foundation.
04:40 The one that I picked is a high-end, but it is really affordable.
04:43 I think it's $20, which if you compare it to some drugstore foundations, they're $12
04:48 or $13.
04:49 It's not that bad of a deal.
04:51 This is the Clinique Stay Matte.
04:53 I have normal skin, and these are products that have worked for me, and that if I think
04:59 about which products I'm recommending, these would probably work for most people.
05:06 I like to use foundations that are for oily skin, because I do not like to look dewy,
05:10 I don't like to look shiny.
05:12 You guys know I have a problem with shimmery, glittery, oiliness.
05:17 So I'm not oily, but I like to use things that are friendly for people with oily complexion.
05:22 So this is a foundation for people with oily skin.
05:27 And I really like it because it dries matte, but not ugly matte.
05:32 There are some foundations that don't make your skin look healthy.
05:35 They make you look matte, but they make you look like a sculpture.
05:39 You don't want that.
05:40 You still want to look human.
05:42 And so this one is a gel base.
05:44 It doesn't make a mess.
05:45 It blends out beautifully, and you don't need to set it.
05:48 So it lasts all day.
05:50 Definitely look into getting an oil-free foundation, or maybe a gel foundation.
05:56 If you go and get a powder foundation, and you're very new at applying makeup, it's very
06:01 easy for you to start looking cakey.
06:03 And you do not want to look cakey, because that's the number one sign of, "I have no
06:07 idea what I'm doing."
06:08 And you don't want to do that.
06:09 You want to fool the people, okay?
06:12 So after that, you want a setting powder, or something to finish off your look.
06:21 Of course, you guys know I'm obsessed with Neutrogena Shine Control.
06:24 This is a translucent powder.
06:27 It's just good, because it absorbs oil, and makes your makeup last even that much longer.
06:32 It doesn't have a color to it.
06:34 You just have to be really careful, because there are some women that have peach fuzz
06:39 on their face.
06:40 I have some in this area of my face.
06:43 And if you do have that fuzzy hair on your cheeks, this will make it stand out even more.
06:50 So avoid it, or if you have a little tiny spray bottle with water, spray it on after
06:57 you finish your makeup, and your face will look amazing.
07:00 So a setting powder.
07:02 I actually skipped one.
07:04 Before you set, sorry, I went out of order.
07:07 Before you set, you want to use a concealer.
07:10 And you don't need to have two different concealers in your collection, but it's good to.
07:17 You need two different concealers for two reasons.
07:20 You want a thicker or creamier concealer to hide areas where you have a blemish, or a
07:27 scar, or something that you're not happy with, a birthmark or a mole.
07:31 So you want a creamier, a thicker, heavier one.
07:33 Then you need a lighter one that you want to put maybe under your eyes, or on the bridge
07:39 of your nose, or your chin, if you want to highlight.
07:43 I keep two kinds of concealers on hand at all times.
07:47 I keep a salmon colored one, like a more orange, to hide the blue in the bags of my eyes.
07:54 You know my panda condition?
07:55 I'm seriously in critical condition right now in the ICU, because my panda circles have
08:01 been out of control.
08:02 My skin has been breaking out.
08:04 I swear to God, someone put a hex on me.
08:08 But anyway, so I don't care.
08:12 My skin can break out.
08:13 My panda circles can get black.
08:14 Whatever.
08:15 I don't care.
08:16 I don't have a concealer, so I don't care.
08:17 So I keep a salmon colored concealer, like this MAC one.
08:21 This is the Studio Finish concealer to hide marks, scars, bruises, breakouts.
08:29 And I also take a little bit on my pinky and I put it in the darkest area of my dark circles
08:34 first, and I let it dry a little bit.
08:36 And then I apply whatever else concealer I want to brighten my under eye.
08:41 Do not put an eye brightener in your under eye area if you have panda circles.
08:49 If you apply a brightener to your under eye and you have panda circles, your panda circles
08:55 will look panda hooker to the max.
08:58 So you want to make sure that you hide the blue or the black of your circles first, and
09:03 then you highlight or you brighten.
09:05 You can't do both at the same time.
09:07 So a really good drugstore concealer, this one works for me as a brightener.
09:12 It doesn't conceal very well.
09:14 It's really light.
09:15 But if you don't have panda disease like me, this one is a really good concealer.
09:19 It's the Maybelline Age Rewind.
09:22 So it's a really good one.
09:23 And it has that sponge tip, which is a little, ugh, if you don't use it really fast, that
09:26 might be kind of gross.
09:27 So now that we have basically our foundation laid out for our house, we want to start adding
09:32 the fun stuff.
09:33 And the fun stuff involves things like bronzer, blush, and highlight.
09:37 I personally do not think you need to own a highlighter.
09:43 I don't think you need to own a bronzer.
09:45 I think you need to have a blush for sure, but let me tell you why.
09:50 Today I am actually wearing one of the blushes that I'm going to talk to you about.
09:54 This is my favorite blush of all time.
09:56 It's the Santa Rose by Rimmel.
09:59 It's just basically a matte pink.
10:01 It's a neutral matte pink.
10:03 It's not a cool tone pink.
10:05 It's just a regular pink.
10:06 It basically goes with everything.
10:07 You could have blue shadow, green eye shadow, black eyeliner, wing liner, whatever.
10:12 This blush goes with everything.
10:15 So in your collection, and I hope you guys are taking notes because this is Makeup 101.
10:18 I'm watching.
10:19 This is going to be a test at the end.
10:21 So you want a matte pink and you want a shimmer peach.
10:26 So two different blushes in your collection.
10:28 Any more than two is overkill.
10:31 I'm dead already because I have way too many blushes.
10:34 But again, a shimmery peach and a matte pink.
10:38 And I'll tell you why.
10:39 The pink is a neutral.
10:41 It goes with everything, all skin tones, all complexions.
10:44 And the shimmery peach is something that makes you look glowing.
10:49 So you want to wear this in the spring or the summer or when you want that extra special
10:53 touch.
10:54 This one basically for every day.
10:56 This one if you want to look extra pretty, I guess.
11:01 These are basically the only two blushes you need to own.
11:03 Obviously we can get into like the deeper tones and the cooler tones and things like
11:07 that.
11:08 But if you're just getting into makeup, do not overwhelm yourself.
11:11 These are the only two colored blushes you need.
11:15 Optional items would be things like a bronzer.
11:19 If you have a skin tone like mine that is really hard to match because I am a really
11:26 fair skinned person but I'm not beige.
11:30 And people that are beige tend to be pink.
11:32 I'm not pink.
11:33 I'm fair skinned but I'm yellow toned.
11:36 So it's very difficult for me to find a foundation.
11:39 So I always have to add a bronzer.
11:42 And the bronzer helps to kind of warm up that foundation so that you don't look so pale.
11:48 I'm not wearing bronzer today.
11:51 This is a bronzer that I would recommend if you do not feel comfortable bronzing yet and
11:56 you don't want to make the investment.
11:58 This is a bronzer by NYC.
12:00 It's called the Sunny Bronzer and it looks like this.
12:05 And you use it to warm up your face in areas that the sun would normally hit your face.
12:09 So in your chin, up the sides of your face, your temples, your forehead, on the sides
12:16 of your cheek.
12:17 And that's also when you get into contour.
12:19 I didn't contour my face today.
12:20 You guys notice?
12:21 I usually have like an overkill.
12:23 It looks like I have a chocolate bar smeared on the side of my face.
12:26 I personally prefer deep contour.
12:29 That's just what I like and that's what I feel looks better on me.
12:33 If you're just getting into makeup, it could be a little overwhelming.
12:35 And if you don't know what you're doing, it could look really dirty.
12:38 You could look like your face is muddy.
12:42 So it's good.
12:44 It's a good option.
12:45 So if you're not comfortable with it, I would say just avoid it for now because you can
12:48 see you don't really need it.
12:50 But it's good to have on hand.
12:52 And if it just costs $2 like this one, why not make the investment and try it out?
12:57 So again, a good bronzer to warm up a foundation in case it's not your proper match or to contour
13:03 the sides of your cheeks.
13:06 And the other optional item, where is it, would be a highlight.
13:13 Highlights are tricky because if you have oily skin and you highlight, you could look
13:17 extra oily.
13:18 So I just say avoid it altogether.
13:21 I know my mom, for example, has really oily skin and she does not use highlighters that
13:27 much unless she knows she's just going to be wearing her makeup for a little while,
13:30 then she'll do it.
13:31 But otherwise, it can go really, it could go south real fast.
13:35 So highlighters are definitely an option and I probably would not recommend it if you're
13:40 just getting into makeup.
13:42 But two options that you can have if you wanted to start your makeup kit are the MAC Soft
13:47 and Gentle or Fergie by Wet n Wild in Rosé Champagne.
13:52 This is a more pink tone, this is a more neutral tone.
13:55 This one goes good, or looks great on all skin types.
13:58 This one does too, but it's a little bit more metallic.
14:01 This one's $30, this one's like $6.
14:05 So you decide.
14:07 But definitely optional.
14:08 Okay you guys, this video is going to be very long.
14:11 I am so sorry, but I think it's a really important video.
14:15 Maybe you can watch it in sections throughout the day.
14:18 Moving on, let's talk about eyes for a second.
14:21 If you're just getting into makeup, you're obviously not going to do like bright purple,
14:25 hot pink, or lime green eyeshadows.
14:28 But you do want to add some definition to your eyes.
14:31 Let's talk about two things that are optional, but that you do not need to add to your collection.
14:38 And those are eye primers.
14:40 An eye primer is good in my personal opinion, because I have really thin eyelids, and I
14:46 do have some marks on my eyelids.
14:49 So it works to even out the skin tone, and it just helps make my eyeshadow last.
14:54 But if you're just getting into eyeshadow, you're going to be using neutral eyeshadows.
14:57 So it doesn't matter if they last or not, because it's just a neutral shadow.
15:02 Two options are the Jordana 12-Hour Shadow Stick in Almond, or the MAC Paint Pot in Soft
15:10 Ochre.
15:11 Optional.
15:12 So, don't need these.
15:15 But if you're really interested in getting a good start on your eyeshadows, I would recommend
15:21 getting something like the Neat Matte Palette.
15:25 This is by The Balm.
15:27 And The Balm is a high-end brand, but this goes on sale at Holt Look all the time, and
15:34 you can get it for like $10.
15:36 So it has all the neutrals that you would need, plus it's matte.
15:42 If you're just getting into makeup, it's very important that you use shadows that are easy
15:49 to blend and are probably matte.
15:52 Because if you go into the shimmery or the glittery and you don't know how to apply it,
15:56 you could look really Lady of the Night-esque, if you know what I mean.
16:01 So you want to be careful.
16:03 Try and get a matte neutral palette first and practice, and then once you get really
16:10 good at it, then you can venture out into the shimmer shadows.
16:13 So this one's really cool because it has cool-toned browns and warm-toned browns, or neutrals.
16:20 So it looks great on all skin types.
16:22 Plus, these eyeshadows will take you like 15 years to use.
16:25 They're so big.
16:27 If you are feeling a little bit more fancy and you want to get a neutral palette but
16:31 you can afford the splurge, I would say go with the Naked Basics palette.
16:36 I think this is $30.
16:39 Or the one that I use in every single one of my tutorials, which is the regular Naked
16:43 palette.
16:44 This is $50, but this will also take you forever and a day to use up.
16:48 But really good eyeshadows that I would recommend for a beginner or for a basic kit are by Wet
16:55 and Wild.
16:56 The two singles that are a must in your collection are this one called Brûlée, which is just
17:02 a basic highlight for like your brow, or Nutty, and this is a really good crease color.
17:10 So you're obviously not going to get all crazy and start, you know, applying 400 different
17:14 eyeshadows to your eye.
17:15 You just want an eyeshadow set that will allow you to create definition or smudge at the
17:22 lower lash line or maybe a little highlight in the corner.
17:26 You're not going to get into craziness yet.
17:30 Because I mean it's really obvious.
17:31 I think something that I heard once that made me, that really stuck in my mind is whenever
17:37 you're playing with makeup, you want to be confident but you don't want to get cocky.
17:44 Because the minute you get cocky is when you start looking like a hooker.
17:47 So be confident and say, you know, I'm going to rock that turquoise in the lower lash line
17:52 like I saw in Dani's tutorial, I'm going to rock it, I'm going to look great, and yes,
17:56 you will look great.
17:57 You need a really good eyeliner.
17:58 I mean waterproof to the max eyeliner.
18:01 If you are a lighter skin or you have blonde hair, I would say getting a waterproof brown
18:06 liner like a chocolate brown.
18:08 If you have darker hair, black hair, or you have darker skin, I would say a black liner.
18:13 I use black liner just because my lashes are black and it makes me look like I have more
18:17 eyelashes when I really don't.
18:19 My favorite black eyeliner is the Milani Liquid Eye.
18:22 It's an automatic pencil which is great because you don't have to sharpen it and it's just
18:26 amazing.
18:27 It lasts forever, it doesn't smudge.
18:28 I've never had any problems with that.
18:31 And after that, your mascara.
18:33 So I have a couple of recommendations for mascara.
18:36 It's obviously drugstore mascara.
18:38 My three favorite drugstore mascaras are the Maybelline Big Eyes, the CoverGirl Crump Crush,
18:49 the Love Crusher, and the Rimmel Lash Accelerator.
18:53 I swear by these.
18:55 Remember I have normal eyelashes.
18:57 I don't have those eyelashes that go down.
18:59 I never use waterproof mascara so I can't recommend any good ones for that.
19:03 But these are my three favorite drugstore mascaras.
19:07 But obviously you only need one of these in your makeup kit.
19:10 These are just several recommendations in case you prefer Maybelline over CoverGirl
19:15 or you have a Rimmel coupon or whatever.
19:17 But these are my top three drugstore mascaras.
19:21 And I think the most expensive one of these is like $6.
19:24 So it's a good deal.
19:25 And now obviously my favorite part of everything are lip products.
19:29 If you are going to start a makeup kit, you do want to have more than one lipstick.
19:39 Optional products in the lip category for me are optional would be lip liners.
19:45 To me, if you have a really good quality lipstick, you don't need to make the investment in a
19:49 lip liner.
19:51 But my two favorite drugstore lip liners are by Rimmel and it's East End Snob, which is
19:56 a pink nude, and Innocent, which is a nude nude.
20:00 So but these are totally optional.
20:03 In your collection, you want to have a nude, a bright, and a bold.
20:10 So three different colors.
20:12 Your nude can be a brown nude or it can be a pink nude, depending on your skin tone or
20:17 which one you prefer better.
20:18 My two favorite nudes are the one I'm wearing today.
20:22 This is a pink nude and it's number 17 by Rimmel.
20:24 It's the Kate Rimmel lipsticks.
20:29 And it looks like this.
20:33 The nude nude that I would recommend or like the brown nude is by L'Oreal and it's the
20:38 Ferris nude.
20:39 But if you are like me and you go by how things smell, this one does smell really strong like
20:44 perfume.
20:46 So these are the nude that you want in your collection.
20:50 After that, you want to have a bright.
20:52 And a bright would be like a hot orange, a hot pink, a hot like a red orange, you know,
20:59 a really bright color.
21:00 I picked this color because I think it looks amazing on all skin colors.
21:04 I mean, from the lightest light to the darkest dark.
21:07 And this is Hot Plum by Maybelline, the Vivitz collection.
21:12 So Hot Plum number 900.
21:14 And it's so interesting because this lipstick on me looks purple and on my mom it looks
21:19 hot pink, completely hot pink and on me purple.
21:23 But it looks great on both of us.
21:25 So this color looks like this.
21:29 See on camera it's looking like hot, hot pink.
21:32 But in person it looks a little bit more purple.
21:36 And lastly, you want a deep.
21:38 A deep is like, think like a wine color or like a really burnt red.
21:44 My favorite deep drugstore is 908 Sugar Plum Fairy by Wet n Wild.
21:50 And when you see it in the container, you're like, "Oh my God, this is going to be black."
21:54 But it's really pretty.
21:55 It looks like a Mac Rebel.
21:59 Just like that.
22:00 See, it's so, so, so beautiful.
22:03 And again, this color looks amazing on fair skin and dark skin.
22:07 So that's a really universal deep shade.
22:09 It's like a wine color.
22:13 And the last thing is lip glosses.
22:17 I don't like lip glosses.
22:19 I buy them and then I remember, "Oh yeah, I didn't like lip glosses."
22:22 But lip glosses are a saver because if you have a lipstick that's too dry, like the Wet
22:27 n Wild Megalast lipsticks are really drying.
22:30 It's always good to top it off with a little bit of shine.
22:33 You want to have three lip glosses on hand.
22:35 Three.
22:36 It's not mandatory, but it's good.
22:40 The first one you want to have is a clear.
22:42 A clear because guess what?
22:44 It's clear.
22:45 You can put it on any color lipstick and you make that color instantly glossy.
22:51 So always have a clear.
22:53 Then you always want to have a glitter or a shimmer one.
22:57 And I know you're going to say, "What?
22:59 You're a queen against glitter."
23:01 But it's good because it changes the tone of a lipstick.
23:07 So right now I'm wearing a pinky, peachy color.
23:11 Have I had lipstick on my teeth this whole time and you guys didn't say anything?
23:14 Look at that.
23:15 And then you guys tell me not to lick my teeth.
23:17 It's okay.
23:18 You still love me, right?
23:21 So it's good to have a shimmery one because it changes the way the lipstick looks.
23:25 It kind of makes it look a different tone.
23:30 This is my favorite.
23:31 This is called Precious Pink and it's a Sephora lip gloss.
23:37 I know Sephora isn't drugstore, but it's cheaper than high end.
23:41 So if you see it has a lot of shimmer in there and it changes because it has blue tone glitter
23:46 in it.
23:47 It changes the color of whatever lipstick you're wearing.
23:52 And of course a nude lip gloss.
23:54 A nude lip gloss is good if you're in a hurry and you want to add something special to your
24:00 lips, but it's also forgiving in case it smears or whatever.
24:03 It doesn't look like if it was a red lip gloss.
24:06 My two favorite are the NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu and the Mary Kay Nourish Shine lipstick.
24:16 This is like a liquid lipstick.
24:17 It's really cool.
24:18 In Au Naturel.
24:19 And I'll swatch these for you guys so you can see.
24:22 This is the Mary Kay one.
24:24 Right there at the bottom.
24:27 And then this one is a little more sheer.
24:30 This is the NYX Butter Gloss.
24:36 The cool thing about butter glosses too is they warm up with your lips and they kind
24:43 of get softer and a little more sheer.
24:46 So they're super pretty and they smell like cake.
24:48 So who doesn't love cake, right?
24:50 And that's it you guys.
24:51 That concludes my longest class of Makeup 101.
24:54 I really hope you learned something.
24:56 Remember that with makeup, your face is your canvas and it's just good to learn and experiment
25:02 and to be daring and brave.
25:04 But don't get cocky because that's when you start looking terrible.
25:07 So don't be scared to try something new, but you really don't need that much stuff in your
25:14 collection.
25:15 I know that when I watch those makeup collection videos, I basically just click out because
25:19 they're so long.
25:20 I don't have that much stuff.
25:22 Basically what you see is all I have.
25:24 And even my stuff is overkill.
25:28 Basically what I shared with you guys today is all the essentials that you need.
25:31 So many products are optional like eye primers or highlights for your face or bronzer.
25:37 So many of those things are completely optional.
25:39 As long as you take really good care of your skin, the actual skin itself, whatever you
25:45 put on your face, you're going to look beautiful.
25:48 So always, always, always have proper skincare, wash your face, moisturize it really, really
25:53 well because 20 years down the road, there's not going to be enough makeup that you can
25:57 apply to make yourself look pretty if you didn't take care of your skin.
26:02 So keep your skin healthy, drink a lot of water, and whatever else you put on is going
26:05 to look that much more amazing.
26:08 So I'm going to write a list of all this stuff down below in case you missed something just
26:15 so you can know, "Oh, okay, these are the basics that I need to have on hand."
26:18 And I really hope you found this video useful.
26:19 Please give me a thumbs up and like this video if you liked it.
26:23 If you liked it.
26:24 If you found it beneficial.
26:25 And leave me any questions or comments down in the comment section below.
26:26 Until next time guys, this is me breaking over.
26:27 Bye!
