00:00 On to stage three of the Dauphiné.
00:17 194 kilometres between Monastral-sur-Loire and Le Coteau and it's one for the sprinters.
00:23 So theoretically an easier day for Jumbo-Visma and their race leader Christophe Laporte.
00:27 There are some sprinter teams that are really interested in this stage.
00:32 I don't think it will be up to us to control it.
00:36 I'm not one of the favourites for a sprint like this.
00:39 It may look more like a massive sprint today.
00:46 There is a climb inside the last 20km, the Cote du Pinay, but it won't be steep enough
00:50 to trouble the likes of Sam Bennett and Dylan Runnewegen.
00:53 I think the climb is more of steps instead of consistent.
01:00 And then the final, just with a few roundabouts and traffic islands, it will make it a bit
01:07 tricky.
01:08 But we should be capable of doing a good job.
01:12 I think we should probably just hold back a bit today and try and come late.
01:20 We have a goal.
01:21 Now we need to look to the other teams.
01:24 But we want to pull and hopefully Bora will help us a little bit.
01:28 And hopefully we can make it a bench sprint and I'm there.
01:30 That will be nice.
01:31 Let's see.
01:32 Otherwise it's a good preparation.
01:35 Stage three is the longest of the week and even if it looks pretty flat, there are still
01:39 over 2,000 metres of climbing.
01:41 Laporte and Julian Alaphilippe will be eyeing up the bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint
01:46 because they are currently level on time at the top of the GC.
01:49 The fast men will then go head to head in the Loire sunshine.
02:09 Today was very much a slow burner.
02:11 With the lone breakaway rider Mathieu Berguedo caught before the live pictures.
02:15 The peloton were also briefly held up by a protest.
02:18 Ultimately there was little to report before the intermediate sprint with 55k to go.
02:24 The bunch easing along at 35km/h during the first two hours of racing but they did gradually
02:29 increase the tempo.
02:31 As expected Bora Hansgrohe and Jacob Alulu were pacing for Benetton-Hrunnivagen but not
02:35 too hard.
02:37 That meant that Jonas Vingegaard was able to get back in pretty easily after this puncture.
02:45 The intensity began to ramp up as they approached that intermediate sprint in Saint-Foy-Saint-Sulpice.
03:13 Le Laporte keeping hold of the yellow and blue jersey and then not for the first time
03:17 on this kind of stage there was a crash in the peloton.
03:21 Lots of riders hitting the deck and poor old Andrey Zaitsev of Astana Kazakhstan was forced
03:26 to abandon.
03:30 Alaphilippe and Mathieu Jorgensen were also caught up in it but apparently no major damage
03:34 done.
03:35 The peloton slowing down again so that everybody could catch up.
03:41 Soon enough they were hurtling their way into Le Coteau with the sprint trains jostling
03:45 for position.
03:50 More misadventures for Alaphilippe in the final kilometres.
03:52 Yesterday's stage winner would have to chase hard to save his second place overall.
03:57 But save it he did, making contact with under 4k to go.
04:03 The riders then hitting over 60k an hour on a technical run in.
04:14 That crash splitting the peloton in two but the top sprinters were still all in there
04:18 for the final shootout.
04:20 Christophe Laporte is decidedly the sprinter to beat at this Dauphiné.
04:46 The Frenchman outpacing Benetton-Kronerwegen to take his second win in three days and moving
04:51 on to 30 career victories.
04:55 This morning he said he wasn't one of the favourites for a bunch sprint but he still
04:59 managed to outgun some of the best in the business and without a proper lead out to
05:03 boot.
05:07 Laporte is up to four wins in just 11 race days this season.
05:33 Laporte taking it as Benetton-Kronerwegen were both relegated for an illegal sprint.
05:38 Trentin was awarded second place ahead of Menton, Hofstetter and Govacar.
05:47 Laporte extends his overall lead to 11 seconds with Alaphilippe holding on to second place
05:51 ahead of Richard Carapaz.
05:53 That is now three wins in three for the French at this Dauphiné.
05:59 Laporte also has a handsome margin in the green jersey standings, leading Trentin by
06:03 30 points.
06:04 Maxime van Gils slips to third place.
06:09 After finishing just 43 seconds inside the time cut yesterday, Donovan Grandin got through
06:14 more comfortably today, even helping to set up Hofstetter for the sprint.
06:18 He stays in polka dots.
06:25 Rune Herregots is still the best young rider by four seconds from van Gils and he should
06:29 be looking forward to tomorrow's time trial, having come fourth at last year's Belgian
06:33 Championships.
06:36 Wednesday is going to be a big day for the GC contenders as they tackle the 31km against
06:41 the clock between Cors and Belmonde-la-Loire.
06:45 All eyes will be on race favourite Wingergaard, but Alaphilippe could also snatch the yellow
06:49 and blue jersey if he's on a good day.
06:52 Do join us again for the TT tomorrow and thanks for watching.
06:55 See you then.
06:56 Bye.
06:57 Bye.
06:57 Bye.
