00:00 Hi everyone, Lola Subjis here taking over Facebook's page for American Salon
00:05 We are here for a quick tutorial on one of my signature styles. I have my lovely model here who is my
00:11 Favorite makeup artist. What is your Instagram account? It is @thelovelyirena
00:16 If you guys are not following her, this is the time to do it. I'm gonna be really short
00:21 I know we have the neon battle with Guy Tang and I'm really excited to watch that as well
00:26 So I'm not gonna keep you long. I
00:28 Already prepped my model over here what I'm gonna show you guys today. It's a different style
00:34 It's not something that you see in the salons a lot
00:37 But it's a technique that it's very helpful for the people who are not very familiar with the bridal industry
00:43 And they are not familiar how to control the hair
00:46 So if you're a beginner in the bridal industry that this will help you a lot
00:50 To learn how to control the hair and not only for the beginners
00:53 But if you are into editorial work that will help you a lot as well
00:58 So I'm gonna get to work what we did here
01:01 What I have discovered every time I play with hair nets is that
01:06 Every time I was trying to mold the hair or start to start a style every time I put the ponytail in the middle
01:14 When I was done the hair
01:17 What the style would be so big that it would look like they have kind of like a second hair attached to the hair
01:22 So I have discovered that it's best
01:24 When I put the hair in a ponytail to do it more on the side and have all this space to build my design
01:29 So what we did here we left some fringe out
01:32 Most of the people most of the brides and bridesmaids. They like to have a little bit of hair framing their face
01:38 We put the hair in a ponytail kind of on the side
01:41 And I already put the hair into the hair nets and I left one section out just for you to see
01:47 How to prep the hair and put the hair in in the hair nets
01:51 Now let me talk a little bit about the hair nets. I have tried all kind of brands
01:55 These ones in a small package
01:58 You can find them at Sally Beauty Supply
02:01 the medium brown
02:04 Is the best color to choose it blends in with any shade of blonde any shade of brown?
02:10 And you need it in a regular size unless the hair is very long then you're gonna need a large
02:15 But if the hair is medium
02:18 Length the regular size will work so it's in a pink package medium brown regular size you guys can find it at Sally Beauty Supply
02:25 So once again, we put the hair in a ponytail I
02:28 have one two
02:31 three
02:34 Four sections here, and I'm gonna work on my fifth one now
02:38 Depending on the texture and the length of the hair you kind of get a feel of how many hair nets you will have to use
02:46 That comes with practice, so don't get discouraged if you try this and it doesn't come out nice the first time you do it
02:53 You're gonna have to tease the hair a little bit and put a little bit of hair spray
02:57 In order to control the hair and be able to model that
03:00 To mold the hair you're gonna need to control it so in order to control it
03:05 You will have to tease the hair a little bit and get some
03:07 Product into the hair slightly with the teasing a light teasing. We're not going crazy with the teasing
03:14 We're not trying to achieve a mohawk in here
03:16 So I'm kind of like dusting
03:20 Teasing in here if we have any questions during this demo feel free to ask I'm here to ask your questions
03:29 Hopefully you'll like this it looks beautiful, and it's completely different than any style you've seen there
03:35 You can create pretty much anything you want once the hair is in the hair net
03:41 You have the flexibility to model that to mold that hair into any style you
03:46 Have in mind
03:49 Which again? It's perfect. It's a perfect technique for the beginners who are not very familiar of how to control the hair
03:55 once you get this
03:57 Technique down. I think you would be able to
04:00 Control the hair without hair nets and achieve this style without the hair nets, but it's a very cool technique to know
04:08 And especially again if you're working with editorial if you're into editorial work, this will be the perfect technique for you
04:16 now we have
04:18 teased every section of the hair and
04:22 Now we're cleaning we need to clean the bottom and the top because that's what you're going to see once we start to
04:28 Mold the hair that's what you're going to see in the hair net and we need to make sure that the top and the bottom
04:33 Are very clean
04:36 That's why I prepared everything from the beginning I don't want you guys to get bored
04:40 We are so used to those one-minute tutorial on Instagram and
04:47 Sometimes we forget that the process it's longer than one minute
04:51 I'm trying not to keep you guys too long in here now the texture that you're looking for
04:58 before you put the hair into a hair net is
05:01 something like
05:04 When you drop this section from your hand
05:06 It should stay together by itself meaning that no hair should come out of this section and you see I lightly
05:14 Tease the hair and I still
05:20 It takes me a lot of time to clean this so again do not go crazy with the teasing
05:25 If you want this to be clean
05:27 And not do the extra work and again you need to make sure the top and bottom
05:33 Are clean you don't want to
05:35 Brush off all the teasing because you need that teasing inside that section
05:40 That's what is going to help you to control the hair so make sure just the top and the bottom are clean
05:45 Don't brush off all the teasing
05:48 Okay
05:52 The hairspray that I'm using very important you do not need to use strong hold hairspray
05:58 You don't want the hair to be sticky. I'm using the KMS from Goldwell in medium hold so every time I create a style I
06:05 Work my way through with medium hold and when I'm done, and I'm not touching that hair anymore
06:11 That's when I go and I use the strong hold just to set the style in place
06:16 We have the hair net
06:19 We attach a bobby pin
06:21 to the knot and
06:23 then we attach this to the elastic when I put the
06:26 the
06:28 Hair into a ponytail I use the regular elastic
06:31 I have found out that every time I use the regular rubber bands these ones are breaking really easily
06:37 And then all the work goes down the drain
06:40 so I recommend you to use a regular elastic when you put the hair in a ponytail and
06:45 Attach the bobby pin to the elastic to secure the hair net because once you start to mold the hair that the
06:55 You're gonna pull a lot so you want to make sure that that hair is secured
06:59 And then you're gonna have to close the hair net with another bobby pin
07:03 We don't want any hair to come out of that hair net
07:05 So we're gonna close that with another
07:07 bobby pin
07:11 And this is the time when we start to mold
07:18 So I'm gonna take my first section over here
07:20 Now one thing that you need to remember about
07:24 Hair nets playing with the hair nets and creating styles with hair nets is that the bobby pins are not
07:30 Are not creating the style you're creating the style and the space for the bobby pins with your fingers, okay?
07:36 So don't just flip the hair around and put some bobby pins on top and expect to see something because that's not gonna happen
07:43 I'm gonna try to create a flower in here, so I'm creating the space
07:48 There is not a certain rule which way to go with the hair nets
07:52 You're kind of like playing around and see where you should go with that
07:56 And what looks good if you're a beginner, and you're trying to create something you have something in mind. I recommend you to have a
08:02 Picture in front of you that is gonna help you like let's say we're trying to build a flower
08:08 So probably having a rose a picture in front of you. It's gonna help you a lot to kind of figure out where to go
08:17 Can you guys see I'm kind of like splitting that one section and more sections trying to build design
08:24 I'm creating the space for the bobby pin
08:28 Trying to figure out where I want to go and then I pin
08:32 I'm not pinning until I figure out exactly where I want that hair to stay
08:36 so we're kind of working on the
08:39 middle of that flower
08:45 And again, there is not a specific rule which way to go
08:49 you're kind of playing around and
08:52 Figure out as you go where you want to pin
08:56 Do we have any questions?
08:59 This
09:07 Particular
09:14 Technique
09:15 Has the origin in Russia. I learned this technique while I was servicing a wedding and
09:21 there was another stylist in there that was doing this style for the bridesmaids and
09:27 I kind of had time to pick up that from her and it was such amazing such an amazing technique to
09:35 not only to
09:37 Watch someone create but to see the results like every style that she created it look completely different
09:44 and I was so
09:46 In love with this style it was so versatile and it was so different than anything I've seen before
09:52 And you guys will see when we're done
09:55 It looks beautiful and the people who come to you for this particular style are
10:00 not bothered by them
10:03 The hairnets and you can barely see them unless you're looking for it very close
10:12 Um, you have a question what other products did you use to prep the hair?
10:16 Yeah, let's talk about the prep prepping the hair you we all know that
10:21 We educate our clients not to wash their hair 24 hours prior the event and most of the brides
10:28 They come with the hair wet or very clean and if that's the case
10:33 Most of the times I have to use
10:35 I'm not a fan of the texture hairspray. I like the hair to be flexible and clean
10:41 So I have discovered that using dry shampoo
10:44 Works best for me. So every time I have super silky hair super clean hair and
10:50 In this case we had really super clean hair
10:54 I'm using the
10:57 The dry shampoo and my favorite one is the dry shampoo from Pink Peter
11:02 This is what I use to prep the hair if the hair is too silky
11:06 If I need any volume, this is my favorite volume powder that comes in a pump
11:11 and
11:14 my to-go
11:16 Spray favorite spray is the KMS medium hold from Goldwell and to etch and shine and
11:23 Fighting the frizz it's the shine and shield spray shine from Brazilian blowout
11:29 These are my favorite products to work with
11:32 Can you do this without hairnets?
11:36 Absolutely, if you guys are looking on my page
11:39 I do have a tutorial there down on a mannequin doll and I am building of rows without hairnets
11:47 This is a different technique and a different way to to do hair. That's why I wanted to share this with you
11:53 It's not something that you see on a regular basis and it's not a technique that a lot of stylists use
11:58 But it's something really cool to learn and to know and to be able to use
12:03 Whenever you're trying to create something different
12:05 So
12:07 Again I do not have a specific way to go with my
12:13 With my sections I'm kind of like playing around
12:18 You can even create mohawks with this. It doesn't have to be a flower necessarily
12:24 You can put the hair and five small ponytails on the top and
12:31 Create a mohawk with these I even have a mohawk on my page done with
12:35 With hairnets
12:41 So once the hair is in the hairnets the possibilities are infinite you can go with whatever style we want
12:48 Because it's really easy for you to control the hair without struggling
12:53 So I'm trying to play with the sections and kind of build them into petals
13:09 You have someone asking where did you get your wristband? My wristband it was
13:18 Given to me as a present by one of my students and it's they told me it's from behind the chair and it's called
13:25 the Nicolas French
13:28 Bracelet it's the best tool to have in your kit
13:33 especially when you have a bridal party that
13:36 has over five
13:39 People it's gonna help you a lot and save you a lot of time because every time you're reaching for a bobby pin
13:44 You it's actually there. You don't even have to move
13:47 Your hand from your client's cow
13:49 So it's a great tool to have in your kit
13:53 So it's a Nicolas French bracelet from behind the chair. I think if you go on their website
13:59 They have it in few different shades
14:03 It's an amazing tool to have
14:15 So again from one section we only had five sections in this
14:20 Ponytail but from each sections I was trying to create more design as you see
14:27 I'm I'm splitting every section and other few sections trying to create those petals
14:33 Are you still inserting the hair into where the ponytail is kind of or is into the elastic
14:45 The bobby pins yeah, no, we're just placing the bobby pins whatever the sections are needed to be secured
14:53 we only
14:56 Attach the bobby pins to the elastic when we start we want to make sure that those hair nets are secured
15:03 properly
15:06 And that they are not coming out
15:09 So
15:11 We're pretty much
15:19 Running out of hair here
15:21 What I like about this is that it's kind of giving you a feel of a 3d
15:26 style
15:29 That's the magic of the hair nets I
15:31 Feel like I can create another one right here
15:38 So
15:40 The more you will split split every section and more section the more
15:45 The the more design you're gonna have the bigger the design is gonna be
15:48 The less you're gonna split the less design you're gonna have so it's really up to you and what your client is trying to achieve
15:55 Or have done
15:59 And
16:01 You guys feel free to
16:12 Put questions even if they are not related to the style in particular if you have any other questions
16:19 Related to other styles that you saw on my page. Feel free to ask
16:22 I'm multitasking I can talk and answer your questions
16:28 And
16:30 I cannot wait for next month to show you more tricks and
16:36 tips on how to create new styles with
16:39 totally different techniques I
16:42 Like to
16:47 Play with hair and discover new things on a daily basis. That's what I'm known for
16:51 I'm trying not to come up with the same style over and over again
16:55 Where should we go with this I think this looks good
17:00 Do we have any other questions
17:07 Will you be near Detroit next year or this year? Sorry? I am planning to bring my workshop to Detroit. Yes
17:15 I am working on that
17:21 Do you find from experience that the cell holds throughout the day
17:23 Throughout the clients event. What was that? Do you find that the style stays securely throughout the clients? Absolutely
17:30 I had people who told me that they slept with it and it was still there the second day and it's very light
17:36 You can really feel it
17:47 And
17:49 Then is there any way any secret that you can
17:53 Advise the clients or the viewers in which way is best to put bobby pins in for them to stay more secure
18:00 Honestly do I don't like to follow any rules and I never ever ask anyone
18:08 Watching my tutorials or taking my classes or coming to my shows to take what I'm saying as a rule
18:15 I think it's best for you to use whatever works the best for you
18:20 If there is not a certain rule where to go with this type with the sections
18:24 And I do not have a certain rule about how to pin whatever works the best for you. That's what you're gonna use
18:30 And of course try your best to
18:35 Hide those elastics, I'm sorry Bobby pins
18:40 We don't want to see any Bobby pins
18:45 Any plans to come to Dallas or New York
18:48 I do have a class in New Jersey and on the 19th, and I am working on
18:56 Bringing my class to New York in April
19:00 What was the other city the Dallas? Yes. I'm working on Dallas as well. So stay tuned
19:07 So, let me just take a look and make sure that all the Bobby pins are hidden
19:14 Once it's done
19:16 You're gonna go and pull and kind of
19:19 Clean up with a little bit of hairspray and while you're pulling you're kind of turning this to you define this
19:26 style more
19:28 And my favorite jewelry is from Pink Peter they have velcro on the
19:35 Back what I love the most about them. They're so easy to use
19:42 You just kind of massage them into the hair and they just stick in there
19:46 And they help you define the style as well
19:51 Are you going to be at IBS? I will be there
19:55 with my b3 family on
19:59 Saturday Sunday and Monday, I will perform on their stage. So if you're looking to get some free education
20:08 You can find me at their booth. I think it's 939 something like that
20:12 And I look forward to meet everyone
20:15 so this is our
20:18 Rose over here
20:21 Done with hair nets if you have any extra hair net
20:26 I recommend you to try to hide it as you go and pin it as you go
20:30 It's gonna be really hard for you to try to hide the hair net as
20:36 As long as you're done with a with a style
20:39 We're gonna take a picture of the final
20:43 Style and we're gonna post it on
20:47 my Instagram page just for you to see the final result and
20:51 For those of you that didn't get to you
20:55 Watches from the beginning. This is a style done
20:58 with hair nets
21:01 We left a little bit of French outside
21:05 The ponytail to frame the face
21:07 We put the hair in a ponytail on the side and we divided that ponytail in six sections. So each section
21:14 We put we chose six six sections and we put them in the hair nets
21:20 The hair nets are on a regular size in a pink package medium brown
21:25 That blends in the best with any shade of color that you have in your hair
21:30 if the hair is black, of course, you're gonna use the black one and
21:34 We twist every section we put hairspray. We clean the bottom and the top we secured it in a
21:40 Hairnet, and that's how we model. I hope you guys enjoyed it and I look forward to see you guys
21:45 this weekend in Long Beach and
21:49 next month again
21:52 Taking over American salon page. Thank you for watching and you guys have a wonderful evening. Bye
