00:25 a very skilled tree climber and the other one being able to jump more than 3 meters

00:30 in height.

00:31 I can't wait to announce the competitors of the 11th episode of Animal Battle.

00:35 Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to present you our two competitors.

00:39 The Curricle versus the Clouded Leopard.

00:45 Also at the end of the video you'll find out who is the winner of the last battle between

00:49 the Dingo and the African Wild Dog.

00:51 Let's do it.

00:52 I'm Mario and this is Animal Battle.

01:01 To decide who is going to be the winner of this battle we are going to evaluate both

01:05 of them based on 6 different characteristics.

01:08 Agility, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, Bone Skill and Survival.

01:14 Because it is not only power that matters.

01:16 But having said that, you might be amazed by their hunting strategies, so don't miss

01:21 that.

01:22 Let's jump right into it.

01:23 We will start with the Agility stats, which are just impressive, especially for their

01:28 size.

01:29 So Clouded Leopards can reach speeds of up to 64 km/h, which is already impressive, but

01:34 Curricles can run at a speed of 80 km/h, which is as fast as a lion.

01:40 And it is just the beginning.

01:42 Curricles are also adroit climbers, being able to climb trees with ease, but still they

01:46 are not as good at that as Clouded Leopards, which are just amazing in trees.

01:51 Clouded Leopards can rotate their ankles so that they can actually go downwards a tree,

01:55 holding themselves with their back legs.

01:59 Even more they have been spotted walking upside down on branches, which is very helpful since

02:04 they live in jungles.

02:05 Their tail plays an important role in that because it is used for balance.

02:10 But the Curricle has one more card up its sleeve.

02:13 It can actually jump higher than 3 meters to catch birds in mid-air.

02:18 It is even more impressive when we take in consideration their size.

02:22 For these amazing jumps they use their strong back legs.

02:25 The Curricle can even twist and change its direction in mid-air.

02:29 Also when it is able to jump so high, it is important to have a proper landing technique.

02:34 So when it is in the air, the Curricle needs to push itself to turn around.

02:39 But there is nothing there.

02:40 It actually rotates its front and back hand in different directions at the same time to

02:45 push against itself.

02:47 Then the Curricle holds its front paws closer to spin faster and prepares for a safe landing.

03:00 Now let's see their agility stats.

03:04 So their agility stats are just amazing.

03:09 Curricles being better at this due to their higher speed and their incredible jumping

03:13 ability, but the Clouded Leopards climbing ability is also remarkable.

03:18 And these abilities will come in handy when we will talk about their attack and defense

03:22 stats.

03:23 They are actually pretty small compared to other felids as you can see from these shots

03:27 from American television shows.

03:30 To see exactly how big they are I am going to use some detective skills learned as a

03:34 Russian spy.

03:35 So, knowing the height of Conan O'Brien and counting the pixels, I approximated the length

03:39 of Curricles to about 78 cm and their weight to 12 to 18 kg.

03:45 And to be sure I double checked it with Wikipedia, so my calculations are correct.

03:50 I did the same thing for finding the length of Clouded Leopards and approximated their

03:55 body length to 81 to 108 cm and their tail length to 74 to 91 cm.

04:02 They can also weigh 11.5 to 23 kg.

04:05 And surprisingly my calculations match the numbers from Wikipedia.

04:09 And though they look pretty small, Curricles can hunt animals from rodents and small birds

04:14 to sheep, goats, impalas and even ostriches.

04:18 The Curricle stalks the prey until it is within 5 meters of it, after which it runs it down

04:23 and bites the prey by the throat.

04:25 Here is used its amazing speed, but it is even more interesting when Curricles catch

04:29 birds in mid-air.

04:30 It executes its amazing jump and tries to injure the bird, hitting it with one paw or

04:35 tries to catch and bring it down, after which the meal is served.

04:39 It usually hunts during the night and has 2 cm long canines for inflicting extra damage.

04:45 But that is nothing compared to the canines of a Clouded Leopard which are 4 cm long.

04:50 The Clouded Leopard is also called the modern-day Sabre-tooth because it has the largest canines

04:55 in proportion to its body size from all felines.

04:58 They are nocturnal and solitary and can hunt rodents, porcupines, pangolins, as well as

05:05 monkeys, birds, deer and even cattle.

05:08 Unfortunately there are no videos of them hunting since they are pretty rare and hard

05:12 to spot in jungles.

05:13 Both of them have competitors.

05:16 Clouded Leopards can be killed by Leopards and Tigers, so they try to avoid them by climbing

05:19 trees, while Curricles are mostly killed by Hyenas and Lions, but have other competitors

05:24 like Jackals, Leopards and Cheetahs.

05:27 It's time to see their stats.

05:28 It is hard to compare their attack stats since they have different hunting techniques.

05:36 Clouded Leopards hunt in trees and the Curricle running the prey down or catching flying birds,

05:41 but both have pretty high attack stats for their size and are doing a little bit worse

05:45 at defense stats due to their many competitors.

05:48 Now we are moving on to bonus skills.

05:50 Clouded Leopards have a clouded pattern which is very good for camouflage in jungles.

05:55 Curricles are also difficult to observe in savannas due to their camouflage and the black

05:59 tufts on the ears actually give them a more irregular shape to blend better in grass.

06:04 Both of them have a good night vision and Curricles also have black lines around their

06:07 eyes to reduce glare caused by the sunlight.

06:10 Also Curricles have big ears for an excellent hearing and can move them in all direction

06:15 using 20 different muscles.

06:17 So let's see their bonus skill stats.

06:20 The Curricles are a little bit better at this due to their exceptional hearing.

06:26 Now we will quickly talk about intelligence stats.

06:29 Both of them are pretty intelligent because they are carnivores and hunting requires a

06:33 higher level of intelligence.

06:35 So their intelligence stats are…

06:41 Good enough.

06:42 And last but not least are survival stats which are important because an animal species

06:47 can participate further in animal battle as long as it is not extinct.

06:51 Surprisingly Curricles are doing fairly good here, being listed as the least conserved

06:55 species.

06:56 Unfortunately, the same can't be said about Clouded Leopards which are listed as a vulnerable

07:01 species because there are less than 10,000 of them in the wild.

07:05 This is mainly due to humans hunting them for their bones and canines used in medicine

07:10 and beautiful coats used for making expensive clothes.

07:13 But do you really think that such a coat is worth the life of several Clouded Leopards?

07:18 Also Clouded Leopards can have 1 to 5 cubs which can live up to 11 years in the wild

07:23 and Curricles can have 1 to 6 kittens which will live up to 12 years.

07:27 So now we can see their final stats.

07:33 As you can see both of them have fairly good stats, being especially good at agility and

07:37 attack for their size.

07:39 So who won?
