00:00 The Wild Boar versus The Warthog.
00:04 What happens when their tasks clash?
00:06 Let's find out.
00:07 I am Mario and this is Animal Battle.
00:17 This episode's winner that will compete forever for the title "The Best Animal in the World"
00:21 is going to be chosen by you, as always, at the end of this episode, so stay tuned to
00:25 find out how to cast an eligible vote.
00:28 For that though, I am going to compare the Wild Boar and the Warthog based on the six
00:32 sacred characteristics, which are agility, attack, defense, intelligence, bonus skill
00:39 and survival.
00:40 So the stronger animal is not necessarily the better one.
00:43 Also, I will announce the winner of the last Animal Battle between the Green Anaconda and
00:48 the Reticulated Python.
00:50 That being said, let's go right to the first characteristic.
00:53 Agility.
00:54 You might not think that these pig species have high agility, but they are actually capable
00:58 of reaching surprising speeds.
01:00 I am talking about a speed of 40 km/h for the Wild Boar and up to 48 km/h for the Warthog.
01:08 The Warthog's smaller body is better suited for speed because running is often the best
01:12 strategy when facing the plethora of predators in the African savannah.
01:16 While their hooves aren't that useful for swimming, these pig species are still capable
01:20 swimmers, being able to cover long distances.
01:24 The hooves still prove to be quite inefficient for wild boars when moving in the snow.
01:29 Luckily for Warthogs, they don't need to worry about snow in the African savannah.
01:33 Wanna see their agility stats?
01:35 Here we go.
01:40 These two pig species have surprisingly high agility stats, Warthogs being better in this
01:44 category, obviously.
01:45 I am sure you'd like to know if a larger wild boar will make a comeback with its attack
01:49 and defense stats, but before that, we need to talk about their bonus skills.
01:54 Both of them are powerful diggers, but that seems counterintuitive since these hooves
01:58 wouldn't do a great job at digging, right?
02:01 Well, yeah, the hooves are useless at digging, but that is why they actually use their snouts
02:05 for digging, having large heads and powerful necks.
02:09 Not only are their snouts great shovels, but they also grant the Warthog and the Wild Boar
02:14 incredible smell.
02:15 Their hearing is also acute, although their eyesight is comparatively weak.
02:20 An impressive adaptation that all pigs have is venom resistance.
02:24 That paired with their thick skin makes them virtually immune to snake bites.
02:28 Speaking of thick, wild boars also have a thick layer of fat to resist cold winters.
02:34 Warthogs face the opposite problem, having to deal with hot temperatures.
02:39 Since they don't have sweat glands, they often chill in the mud.
02:42 That also helps them get rid of parasites.
02:44 Still, that might not be enough to get rid of all the mites and insects on their skin,
02:49 so they often visit the mongoose or oxpecker spa, which will help Warthogs get rid of insects
02:54 by eating them.
02:55 This is a mutualistic behavior, meaning that it benefits both species.
03:00 And the last bonus ability that both of these pig species have is the fact that they are
03:04 social animals.
03:05 They form groups consisting of females and their young, which increases their chance
03:09 of survival when they face predators and makes it easier to raise the piglets.
03:14 Stats?
03:15 They have pretty high bonus skill stats, which are more or less equal.
03:23 Next comes their attack and defense stats.
03:26 The size of wild boars is different depending on their range.
03:29 In most of Europe males average 75 to 100 kg in weight and 150 cm in length, being larger
03:36 than females.
03:37 But in northeastern Asia wild boars can be huge, reaching brown bear-like sizes, weighing
03:42 270 kg and reaching up to 118 cm in shoulder height.
03:48 It is true that not all males reach such an incredible size, but seeing one such individual
03:53 in the wild would be quite scary.
03:55 Warthogs are usually smaller, but they can still reach up to 1.5 m in length and 150
04:00 kg in weight.
04:02 Warthogs still win in tusk size.
04:04 The upper canine teeth can reach up to 25 cm, about twice longer than those of wild
04:09 boars.
04:10 You decide whether tusk size is important or not, but the bottom tusks being constantly
04:14 rubbed against the upper ones makes them really sharp, becoming great weapons that definitely
04:20 help intimidate their predators.
04:22 Also, both the wild boar and the warthog are omnivorous, being able to eat a wide range
04:27 of food from berries and roots to insects, eggs and carrion.
04:32 That is why they are some of the favorite customers in the panda tavern as they usually
04:35 eat anything available and in large quantities.
04:39 What about defense?
04:40 Both of these species are quite good at that, but still have some predators.
04:45 Whilst large male wild boars don't really have predators being able to defend themselves,
04:50 females and younger boars are vulnerable to attacks from wolves, snow leopards and brown
04:54 bears.
04:55 Warthogs run into more predators in the African savannah, from wild dogs and hyenas to lions,
05:01 cheetahs and leopards.
05:02 They can retreat in their burrows which are usually stolen from art works, can try to
05:06 run or can face the predators head on, although the latter is more efficient when more warthogs
05:11 face the predator at once.
05:13 Being aggressive in such situations is an important adaptation to survive in such a
05:17 hostile environment.
05:18 If you've enjoyed this video so far, why don't you leave a like to show the YouTube
05:21 algorithm that people enjoy this type of content and that it should recommend this video to
05:26 more people.
05:27 It would also make Spike really happy if you smash that subscribe button.
05:30 So their attack and defense stats are… really high.
05:38 Wild boars being naturally stronger and better at defense due to their large size.
05:43 Still, the warthog is also surprisingly tough.
05:46 When it comes to the intelligence, you wouldn't think that they are particularly special,
05:50 but all pig species are actually some of the smartest animals.
05:54 Studies show that pigs are capable of remembering objects, perceiving time and making use of
05:58 learned information to navigate their environment.
06:01 They can learn tricks just like a dog and are good problem solvers.
06:04 Well, teaching wild boars and warthogs tricks might prove to be a challenge due to their
06:08 aggression when they feel threatened, but they demonstrate their high intelligence by
06:12 avoiding predators and traps made by humans.
06:15 Also there are some cases when even wild pigs act like humans.
06:20 So their intelligence stats are… very high.
06:27 And last but not least let's talk about survival.
06:30 Both of these species are doing well here.
06:32 While we don't know their exact population, they are classified as least concerned species.
06:37 The mother wild boar will give birth to about 2 to 8 piglets which will live up to 10 to
06:41 14 years in the wild.
06:43 The litter size of warthogs is usually 4 to 6 piglets which will live 15 years on average.
06:48 A nice thing is that if a mother dies prematurely, other females from the group will take care
06:53 of the orphaned piglets in both species.
06:56 So let's take a look at their final stats.
07:02 As we can see both of them have high stats overall.
07:05 Warthog specializing in agility and wild boar specializing in attack and defense.
07:09 So who is the winner?
07:10 It is all up to you because you can vote in the comments down below writing #wildboar
07:16 or #warthog to cast your vote.
07:19 Make sure you write correctly as this is the only way for me to accurately count the votes.
07:25 Speaking of votes, let's see who is the winner of the last animal battle between the
07:29 green anaconda and the reticulated python.
07:32 So the winner is…
07:36 The anaconda!
07:37 The largest snake alive!
07:39 If you wanted the python to win don't be upset because here on M from Animals we love
07:44 and respect all animals.
07:46 Once again don't forget to cast your votes in the comments writing #wildboar or #warthog.
07:52 I'd also like to thank my patrons for supporting me and if you really love what I'm doing
07:56 you can also support me on Patreon to fill up that list with your name.
