Senna (Sana Makki, Senna leaves, سناء مکی) is a herb of Saudi Arabia and comes from several different flowering species of the Cassia plants. The senna leaves (Sana Makki) is now grown in Pakistan and readily available in Pakistan. The sana makki tea and kehwa is normally recommended to use as a laxative or stimulant.
For the past few weeks, the herb Sana Makki is promoted on social media for the treatment of novel coronavirus COVID-19 in Pakistan. This Sana makki tea leaves treatment gone so viral on social media that it surged the price of senna leaves and stock shortages in Pakistan.
I have conducted my research and termed the news shared on social media as baseless and misleading. Sana Makki is a common herb that can be used for stomach and intestinal diseases but it has not been proven yet that its use is useful in deadly lung infections or the global coronavirus pandemic. There is no clear scientific evidence that Sana Makki is useful in preventing or treating the coronavirus.

Normally, Senna tea has been marketed as a constipation treatment and a detox tea for cleansing. The herb has been used as a weight-loss treatment.
Excessive use of senna tea o kehwa can cause a number of different immediate side effects like mild abdominal cramps, irritation, nausea and severe diarrhoea.
