00:00 Annemiek van Vleuten is in trouble.
00:12 Welcome to stage 7 of La Vuelta Femenina.
00:15 It's time for the final showdown of this 2023 edition with Annemiek van Vleuten in
00:19 the red jersey and leading Demi Follering by over a minute as we head to the iconic
00:24 Lagos de Covadonga.
00:26 It is one of the most famous climbs on the Men's Vuelta a España, first featuring 40
00:31 years ago and it promises to provide a spectacular finale to what's already been a fascinating
00:36 race.
00:38 First up is La Collada Moandi, 12.5km at 4.6% before the big summit finish.
00:45 Again it's 12.5km but this time at an average gradient of 6.9%.
00:50 Whoever wants that red jersey is going to have to earn it.
00:56 The peloton had already been whittled down to a group of favourites by the time the live
00:59 pictures began with the early breakaway caught on the first climb.
01:03 Trek Segafredo setting the pace as they reached the summit with Amanda Spratt and yesterday's
01:07 stage winner Gaia Rialini leading over the top.
01:11 A few stragglers trying to catch up, including Follering's team mate Marlon Reusser who began
01:16 the day fifth overall.
01:19 Vollering herself then looked to apply a bit of pressure on the descent but didn't manage
01:22 to cause any splits.
01:25 When they got back down to the valley, Kasia Niewiadoma went on the attack for Canyon SRAM.
01:31 The pole was soon joined by Reusser who had managed to bridge back across to the front
01:34 group on the descent.
01:36 They quickly opened up a gap as some of the GC leaders waited for their team mates, the
01:41 peloton growing again to around 35 riders with Movistar soon back on the front.
01:46 Niewiadoma and Reusser just rolling through at the intermediate sprint where Marianne
01:51 Vos in the green jersey was looking to wrap up victory in the points classification.
01:57 Jumbo Visma giving Movistar a hand with the pacing as the two leaders sat up and they
02:01 were brought back a couple of kilometres before hitting Lagos de Covadonga.
02:15 The gradients hitting 10% in the early part of the climb with Movistar back on the front.
02:20 Plenty of riders dropping including the Spanish champion Mavi Garcia and Niewiadoma after
02:25 all of her efforts.
02:28 The group down to around a dozen riders when Follering put in her first dig.
02:32 Well, the four-legged herself is going for it and going for a real long range attack
02:38 today.
02:39 Fired up from what happened yesterday, she's going for it.
02:45 That was too much for Rihanna Marcus who began the day in third overall and Follering wasn't
02:49 done there.
02:51 The women's world tour leader going again with 9.3km to go and the front group was soon
02:55 reduced to just four riders.
02:58 Follering, Raiolini, Musick and van Vleuten.
03:02 The Frenchwoman was the first to fall away with 7km to go before Raiolini almost got
03:06 caught out by a dropped chain.
03:11 The Italian looking strong as she returned to the front.
03:15 Van Vleuten on the other hand was clearly suffering.
03:22 Follering and Raiolini just edging away from the red jersey who'd started the day with
03:26 a lead of a minute and 11 seconds.
03:28 So the race for overall victory was on.
03:31 Follering and Raiolini gradually increasing their gap to 40 seconds but that wouldn't
03:34 be enough for the SD Works leader.
03:37 Follering pulling away from Raiolini and giving it absolutely everything in the final kilometre.
03:43 Demi Follering is basically sprinting up that climb but will it be enough for the red jersey?
03:51 She wins the stage.
03:53 Demi Follering is the first winner in La Vuelta Femenina Lagos de Corva Dunga.
03:59 Danymik van Vleuten, one minute and three seconds is what she needs to cross the finish
04:05 line.
04:06 There she is fighting for every metre, fighting for every second.
04:11 One minute, three seconds, she's made it.
04:14 Arnaud-Denis van Vleuten is the winner of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.
04:20 It was a splendid final battle between Follering and van Vleuten with the reigning champion
04:24 coming out on top by a matter of seconds.
04:27 SD Works were unhappy with how Movistar attacked yesterday during a nature break but the Spanish
04:32 squad defended themselves by saying it was always their plan to make a move in the crosswinds.
04:36 That certainly made for an electric finale and this rivalry will no doubt rumble on throughout.
04:41 The whole team fought really hard for it because we had something to make up for yesterday.
04:47 I'm really happy that I could win here today.
04:49 Two stage wins is really nice and it was close for the GC.
04:53 If it was a bit different yesterday then I think we would have won the GC also.
05:01 It's sad that I was not able to battle yesterday with the best.
05:06 I think today I showed what we are worth and I'm really happy with our fight from today.
05:14 Follering taking her second stage win of the week but it wasn't quite enough.
05:17 The impressive Raiolini only 11 seconds back as she moved on to the overall podium but
05:22 van Vleuten once again finished top of the pile.
05:25 Unbelievable.
05:26 I kept on fighting until the end.
05:28 I didn't have the best legs.
05:29 I felt already a bit on the climb that I didn't have my best day.
05:33 Maybe also with the effort of yesterday.
05:38 I never ever give up.
05:39 I need to keep on pushing.
05:41 Keep on pushing for sure.
05:42 You also get tired.
05:43 In the end it was close.
05:48 Amazing team job again today.
05:50 This Vuelta win is really a win of Movistar Team all.
05:55 Van Vleuten defending her title by the skin of her teeth.
05:58 The gap to Follering just nine seconds.
06:01 Raiolini was the best of the rest at 2 minutes 41 with Marcus and Bauernfeind completing
06:05 the top five.
06:07 Mariana Vos had a stellar week.
06:09 She took two stage wins and the green jersey, not to mention wearing the red jersey for
06:13 three days.
06:14 The 35-year-old was also named the race's most aggressive rider.
06:20 Raiolini's efforts on the final day means that she goes home with the mountains jersey.
06:24 With her stunning stage win yesterday, the Italian has proved that she is a future star.
06:29 Finally, UAE Team ADQ won the team's classification with Erika Magnaldi their best placed rider
06:35 in eighth overall.
06:37 Well it has been a remarkable edition of La Vuelta Femenina by Car4.es.
06:42 Here's hoping for more of the same next year.
06:44 So do join us then and thanks very much for watching.
