00:00 The French Bulldog and the Boston Terrier are two of the most loved companion dogs.
00:04 They're small, cute and adorable dogs that have won the hearts of many.
00:08 So, if you're torn between which one to go with, this video is just what you need.
00:14 OK, so which of these lovely pooches would make the better companion dog?
00:19 Well, it depends on which of them will be more compatible with your lifestyle.
00:22 Make sure you watch the video to the end to find out the most important thing to know before picking either of these two dogs.
00:29 With that out of the way, let's get straight into the video.
00:32 Appearance
00:33 The French Bulldog may not be the prettiest dog in the world,
00:36 but what it lacks in beauty it certainly makes up for in character and affection.
00:40 And for the French Bulldog, beauty truly lies in the eyes of the beholder.
00:45 The French Bulldog is impressively built with a muscular body despite its small size.
00:50 It stands about 12 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 16 to 28 pounds.
00:54 It has a short, smooth and shiny coat.
00:58 The skin at its head and shoulders are loose, wrinkled and soft.
01:01 It comes in different colors ranging from fawn and cream to different shades of brindle.
01:07 The Boston Terrier, on the other hand, is blessed with a beautiful coat that many dogs would certainly be envious of.
01:14 The Boston Terrier is the James Bond of the dog world,
01:17 with its well-built body and its sleek and shiny straight coat with white markings
01:22 that make the dog look like it's wearing a tuxedo.
01:26 This is how it earned its nickname "The American Gentleman".
01:28 The Boston Terrier stands about 15 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 10 and 25 pounds.
01:34 Lifespan
01:36 The Boston Terrier has a life expectancy between 13 to 15 years,
01:40 while the French Bulldog has an average lifespan of 11 to 14 years.
01:45 So, on average, these two are pretty similar,
01:48 although the Boston Terrier does win on a slight technicality.
01:52 General Health
01:55 French Bulldogs are prone to certain kinds of diseases.
01:57 These include hip dysplasia, allergies,
02:00 hemivertebrae,
02:02 Von Wilbrand's disease, amongst others.
02:05 One notable disease that the French Bulldog is known to be prone to have is the Brachycephalic syndrome.
02:11 This is a disorder that is common with breeds with short heads or narrow nostrils.
02:16 The Boston Terrier is generally a healthy dog breed.
02:19 However, it is also prone to certain diseases,
02:22 some of which are
02:23 cataracts,
02:25 deafness,
02:26 brain tumors,
02:27 reverse sneezing, amongst others.
02:29 Both dog breeds require regular medical checkups
02:32 so that any disease can be diagnosed early and properly treated.
02:36 Adaptability
02:38 Both the Boston Terrier and the French Bulldogs are ideal as apartment dogs.
02:42 While these dogs require patient and persistent leadership,
02:45 they are both suitable for novice owners.
02:48 Neither one of them adapts well to extreme weather conditions,
02:52 hot or cold,
02:53 which is why they fare best
02:55 when they live in an apartment with a regulated temperature.

03:09 Personality
03:10 As the American Gentleman, the Boston Terrier is a gentle, affectionate, smart, and lively dog.
03:16 It is a delight to be with
03:18 and has a reputation of being quite a funny dog.
03:22 On the other hand, this dog can be stubborn.
03:24 It requires persistence
03:25 and consistency in training.
03:27 Boston Terriers love to eat.
03:29 If not fed carefully,
03:31 they run a risk of being overweight.
03:33 An overweight dog is never a good thing,
03:35 no matter how cute you may think it is.
03:37 Thanks to their lively, funny disposition, these intelligent dogs are excellent companions.
03:43 They make the best pets for elderly people,
03:45 and for more information about that,
03:47 you can check out our video on the top 10 dogs for elderly people.
03:52 Link in the description.
03:53 Despite their size, Boston Terriers know how to carry themselves with an air of pride and confidence.
03:59 As with every other dog breed, early socialization and training is important for Boston Terriers
04:04 so that you can have a well-rounded dog.
04:07 The French Bulldog is the quintessential companion dog.
04:11 They love human contact.
04:13 The Frenchie never likes to be left alone.
04:15 As an owner,
04:17 you need to take this dog almost everywhere you go.
04:20 French Bulldogs are very intelligent and easily trainable.
04:24 Provided training is fun for them,
04:26 they are ready to learn a lot.
04:28 Despite this,
04:29 they can be occasionally stubborn,
04:31 as they have a tendency to show
04:33 that they have a mind of their own.
04:34 They require a loving but firm owner
04:37 who can be consistent and patient in training them.
04:39 Interestingly, Frenchies make excellent watchdogs,
04:43 as they can be quite territorial and possessive.
04:46 They are also alert
04:47 and are not particularly welcoming to strangers.
04:51 A French Bulldog is willing to defend its owner with its life.
04:53 That's how loyal this dog can be.
04:56 Frenchies are not known to be excessive barkers,
04:59 which makes them even more appealing as apartment dogs.
05:02 French Bulldogs relate to kids very well.
05:04 Nevertheless,
05:06 it is vital that kids are not left alone with any dog unsupervised.
05:10 And like any dog,
05:11 they also require early socialization
05:13 and training to be the best versions of themselves.
05:16 Honestly,
05:18 it's really difficult to differentiate between these two.
05:21 They are really quite similar,
05:23 and they are faves for old people,
05:25 people with young kids,
05:27 first-time dog parents,
05:28 and people who live in apartments.
05:30 Basically,
05:31 everyone.
05:32 Going with either of these dogs
05:34 will be a really good choice,
05:36 so we're afraid we have to call this one a draw,
05:39 because they are just so great in their own right.
05:41 And there you have it!
