00:00 Being a dog parent comes with many responsibilities. It requires your time,
00:04 attention, and commitment. And while this is something that a lot of dog parents
00:09 are excited about, sometimes we just can't be there for our furry friends 100%
00:14 of the time. Often our jobs, relationships, and other life commitments will need to
00:18 separate us from our dogs. But the problem is that dogs are generally
00:22 really fond of their owners, so most of them don't do well when left alone and
00:26 separated for long periods of time. In some cases, they might even develop
00:31 separation anxiety and become destructive. So, if you are the 12-hour workday kind
00:36 of person, what kind of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle? Here are 10
00:41 dogs that can be left alone for long periods. Number 10 - The Miniature Schnauzer.
00:47 The Miniature Schnauzer is one of the most loved dog breeds in the United
00:51 States. And a big reason for this is because they can stay at home for long
00:55 hours. One thing to note about this breed, however, is that they require mental
00:59 stimulation in the form of mental exercise, even when they're left alone at
01:04 home for long periods. So, you would need to find something for them to do to
01:08 stimulate their minds while you're gone. They can serve as excellent guard dogs
01:12 while you're out. Just don't forget to leave them toys and chewables to make
01:16 the stay less boring for them. Number 9 - The Shiba Inu. The Shiba Inu is widely
01:22 considered one of the most famous Asian dog breeds. They're very independent dogs.
01:27 This is why they have no problem being left alone for long hours. This sense of
01:32 independence, however, means that they can be quite stubborn and would require
01:36 proper training. Just like the Miniature Schnauzer, the Shiba Inu should be
01:41 left with activities or toys that will keep them mentally engaged. This is an
01:45 intelligent dog that requires constant mental stimulation. Number 8 - The Shar Pei.
01:51 At number 8 is another dog from Asia, the Shar Pei. This dog has a reputation
01:57 for being a loner. Frankly, they couldn't care less that you spend most of your
02:02 hours away from home. They're very reserved dogs, which make some great
02:05 apartment dogs. They truly don't take up any room. They're not welcoming of
02:10 strangers as they can be very protective of their space. Quite introverted, you
02:14 might say. Shar Peis need to be well trained and socialized from puppyhood to
02:19 ensure that they are well-rounded and do not become utterly stubborn and
02:23 aggressive. Number 7 - The Maltese. Maltese are one of the most friendliest dogs on
02:30 the planet. These small dogs are excellent companions and lap dogs.
02:34 Although they love to snuggle and be around their owners, Maltese are capable
02:38 of staying home alone. They have a sense of maturity that allows them to be alone
02:42 without being lonely and destructive. That said, like every other dog breed, they
02:48 require proper socialization and house training. Number 6 - The Bullmastiff. The
02:54 Bullmastiff is quite a scary, large piece of muscle. Yet, this dog is largely
03:00 inactive and quiet at home. It lives a sedentary lifestyle, which makes it
03:05 capable of staying at home alone for long hours. They also make excellent
03:09 guard dogs. You can leave your Bullmastiff at home for hours and be sure your home
03:14 is kept secure. Despite their enormous size, Bullmastiffs make good apartment
03:19 dogs. They become calmer and reserved as they grow older and will benefit from
03:23 proper socialization and house training at a young age. Number 5 - Basset Hound.
03:28 The Basset Hound is a very independent dog breed. They tend to have a mind of
03:33 their own, which can be a challenge when training them. However, this makes them
03:38 just the perfect candidates to be left at home for long hours. They are the
03:42 perfect illustration of the term "couch potatoes". That said, Basset Hounds are
03:47 very easygoing and quite intelligent. They're loyal to their owners and love
03:51 being around them, but they aren't too clingy. Wouldn't they just make the perfect
03:55 partner? Number 4 - Boston Terrier. Although Terriers have a tendency to
04:00 suffer from separation anxiety when left alone for hours, the Boston Terrier
04:05 doesn't have this problem. Boston Terriers have an independent side to
04:09 them and although they cherish the presence of their owners, they have no
04:12 problem being left on their own for long hours. Boston Terriers are an active
04:17 breed and so leaving them at home with toys and chewables is all you need to
04:21 keep them occupied while you are busy at work. Number 3 - Basenji. Originally bred
04:27 in Africa, the Basenji is a very independent and very intelligent dog
04:31 breed. The Basenji was bred as a hunting dog, so naturally they have an
04:36 explorative instinct that makes them quite independent. When left alone, they
04:41 naturally try to find a way to keep themselves busy and when their owners
04:45 return, best believe they will give them a grand welcome on arrival. The Basenji
04:51 is a barkless dog, not because they are voiceless, but rather because they have
04:55 limited vocalizations. They are more likely to whine and growl than they are
04:59 to bark. Number 2 - Akita. The Akita is a cute, medium to large-sized Japanese
05:06 dog breed. They are known to be quite docile and so they have no problem being
05:10 left home alone for long hours. They're also very independent and very reserved.
05:16 They are, however, excellent watchdogs and although they're naturally reserved,
05:20 they won't take lightly to any intruder. Despite being able to stay at home alone,
05:25 Akitas will relish the presence of their owners on arrival. Before we look at our

05:39 Number 1 - The Chow Chow. The Chow Chow is a furry big dog. Surprisingly, they do not
05:47 like physical affection. Giving them a big hug means nothing to them and while
05:51 that might not be very attractive to you, it's as a result of their independent
05:56 nature which makes them very comfortable being alone. The Chow Chow is an
06:01 intelligent dog and an excellent watchdog too. When it comes to a dog breed
06:05 that has no problem being left alone for hours, no one really comes close to the
06:10 Chow Chow. We hope you enjoyed this video. Comment down below how your dog acts when
06:16 you leave him at home to go to work. We'll love to hear your stories. Until next time,
06:21 thank you very much for watching!
