New Report Has Revealed Last Year Saw a Significant Increase in Carbon Dioxide Emissions
  • last year
"A new report has revealed that last year saw the highest-ever global emissions of carbon dioxide. This quantity is the highest recorded so far, from 1900 until the present.

According to the International Energy Agency, there was a 0.9% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2022. After an increase of 321 million tons, this quantity has now reached a height of 36.8 billion tons.

The primary reason for this increase is the use of coal again during the global energy crisis, although the estimated global emissions growth was lower. According to the report, coal accounts for over half of worldwide carbon emissions. Last year, there was a 1.6% increase in emissions due to coal, with an additional 243 million tons, and this quantity has now reached a new height of approximately 15.5 billion tons.

The report presented on Thursday by the agency provides a complete picture of greenhouse gas emissions related to energy in the previous year, including not only carbon dioxide but also nitrous oxide and methane."
