Ein glückliches Ehepaar erwartet sein erstes Kind. Damit es dem neuen Familienmitglied an nichts mangelt, richtet die werdende Mutter das Kinderzimmer liebevoll ein und besorgt für ihren Spross eine Puppe nach der anderen. Eines Tages hat ihr Mann ein Exemplar im Gepäck, nach dem sie schon sehr lange gesucht hatte. Dem jungen Familienglück scheint damit nichts mehr im Weg zu stehen – bis zu dem Tag, als Sektenmitglieder eines Satanskultes in ihr Haus eindringen und das arglose Pärchen überfallen. Zwar entgehen sie knapp dem Schlimmsten, doch die Okkultisten haben etwas beschworen, dass sie selbst an Bösartigkeit bei weitem übertrifft. Dieses Etwas verkörpert eine direkte Verbindung ins Reich der Verdammten und steckt in "Annabelle", die sich unbarmherzig an die Ferse der Familie heftet.
