In drei Zeitaltern folgt ein Mann seinem Ziel: 1535 reist der spanische Conquistador Tomás Verde mit Vater Avila in den tiefsten südamerikanischen Dschungel, um in einem streng bewachten Maya-Heiligtum den Quell ewigen Lebens zu finden. In der Gegenwart forscht Tom Creo trotz Bedenken von Dr. Guzetto verzweifelt nach der Krebsheilung - um seine schwer erkrankte Frau Izzi zu retten, die ein Buch über den Abenteurer Tomás schreibt. Und im Jahre 2500 gleitet der Astronaut Tommy in einer riesigen Glaskugel durch die Weiten des Weltalls und hat einen wertvollen Baum mit an Bord. Während seiner Reise wird er immer wieder von mysteriösen Erinnerungen heimgesucht.
