In Shivamogga's Thirtha, Bibi Jan was encouraged to start a self-help group for women millet farmers after a meeting with the Sahaja Samruddha Samsthe. But as with all the other families in the village, she faced opposition at home. After a lot of convincing, she was finally allowed to start her organisation. The group was then equipped with two millet processing units, which they now use to sell millet products around the state. She also runs a seed bank, which has preserved and propagated traditional millet varieties and made millet farming sustainable in the region.
