As Chanel models walk the catwalk in a collection dominated by black and white, we are transported back in time to the French New Wave film era of the early 1960s. The opening piece is a photo collage of subtle references, speaking to the key inspiration for the collection. It is a cinematic moment close to home—the 1961 film L’année dernière à Marienbad (Last Year in Marienbad)—and a short film playing in the background that stars Kristen Stewart and is inspired by the movie set provides this context.
